In 2022, the death rate in Ethiopia decreased by 0.3 deaths per 1,000 inhabitants (-4.42 percent) compared to 2021. This decrease was preceded by an increase in death rate. The crude death rate is the annual number of deaths divided by the total population, expressed per 1,000 people.Find more statistics on other topics about Ethiopia with key insights such as infant mortality rate, total fertility rate, and total life expectancy at birth.

The infant mortality rate in Ethiopia decreased by 1.1 deaths per 1,000 live births (-3.14 percent) compared to the previous year. The infant mortality rate thereby reached its lowest value in recent years. The infant mortality rate refers to the number of infants who do not survive past the first year of life, expressed as a value per 1,000 births.Find more statistics on other topics about Ethiopia with key insights such as total life expectancy at birth, death rate, and crude birth rate.
The statistic shows the adult mortality rate in Ethiopia from 2012 to 2022, by gender. According to the source, the adult mortality rate is the probability of dying between the ages of 15 and 60 - that is, the probability of a 15-year-old dying before reaching age 60, if subject to age-specific mortality rates of the specified year between those ages. In 2022, the mortality rate for women was at 170.58 per 1,000 female adults, while the mortality rate for men was at 268.21 per 1,000 male adults in Ethiopia.
Child mortality rate of Ethiopia slipped by 3.75% from 48.0 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2021 to 46.2 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2022. Since the 5.38% drop in 2012, child mortality rate sank by 37.48% in 2022. Under-five mortality rate is the probability per 1,000 that a newborn baby will die before reaching age five, if subject to current age-specific mortality rates.

BackgroundThe COVID-19 mortality rate continues to be high in low-income countries like Ethiopia as the new variant’s transmission expands and the countries’ limited capacity to combat the disease causes severe outcomes, including deaths. The aim of this study is to determine the magnitude of the COVID-19 mortality rate and its determinants in Ethiopia.MethodsThe main electronic databases searched were PubMed, CINAHL, Google Scholar, and African journals online. The included studies’ qualities were assessed independently using the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. The data was extracted in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet format. The pooled effect size and odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals across studies were determined using the random-effects model. I2 is used to estimate the percentage of overall variation across studies due to heterogeneity. Egger’s test and funnel plot were used to find the published bias. A subgroup analysis was conducted. The effect of a single study on the overall estimation was determined by sensitivity analysis.ResultsA total of 21 studies with 42,307 study participants were included in the final analysis. The pooled prevalence of COVID-19 mortality was 14.44% (95% CI: 10.35–19.08%), with high significant heterogeneity (I2 = 98.92%, p

Ethiopia ET: Mortality Rate: Infant: per 1000 Live Births data was reported at 41.000 Ratio in 2016. This records a decrease from the previous number of 42.600 Ratio for 2015. Ethiopia ET: Mortality Rate: Infant: per 1000 Live Births data is updated yearly, averaging 118.300 Ratio from Dec 1966 (Median) to 2016, with 51 observations. The data reached an all-time high of 144.300 Ratio in 1966 and a record low of 41.000 Ratio in 2016. Ethiopia ET: Mortality Rate: Infant: per 1000 Live Births data remains active status in CEIC and is reported by World Bank. The data is categorized under Global Database’s Ethiopia – Table ET.World Bank: Health Statistics. Infant mortality rate is the number of infants dying before reaching one year of age, per 1,000 live births in a given year.; ; Estimates developed by the UN Inter-agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation (UNICEF, WHO, World Bank, UN DESA Population Division) at www.childmortality.org.; Weighted Average; Given that data on the incidence and prevalence of diseases are frequently unavailable, mortality rates are often used to identify vulnerable populations. Moreover, they are among the indicators most frequently used to compare socioeconomic development across countries. Under-five mortality rates are higher for boys than for girls in countries in which parental gender preferences are insignificant. Under-five mortality captures the effect of gender discrimination better than infant mortality does, as malnutrition and medical interventions have more significant impacts to this age group. Where female under-five mortality is higher, girls are likely to have less access to resources than boys.
51.7 (deaths per thousand live births) in 2022. Child mortality rate is the probability of dying between the exact ages of one and five, if subject to current age-specific mortality rates. The probability is expressed as a rate per 1,000.
In 2022, the total life expectancy at birth in Ethiopia remained nearly unchanged at around 65.64 years. Life expectancy at birth refers to the number of years the average newborn is expected to live, providing that mortality patterns at the time of birth do not change thereafter.Find more statistics on other topics about Ethiopia with key insights such as total fertility rate, infant mortality rate, and death rate.
Share of deaths from communicable diseases of Ethiopia slumped by 8.87% from 49.0 % in 2016 to 44.7 % in 2019. Since the 13.68% drop in 2010, share of deaths from communicable diseases sank by 22.41% in 2019.
The total fertility rate in Ethiopia decreased by 0.1 children per woman (-2.4 percent) compared to the previous year. In 2022, the fertility rate thereby reached its lowest value in recent years. The total fertility rate is the average number of children that a woman of childbearing age (generally considered 15 to 44 years) is expected to have throughout her reproductive years. Unlike birth rates, which are based on the actual number of live births in a given population, fertility rates are estimates (similar to life expectancy) that apply to a hypothetical woman, as they assume that current patterns in age-specific fertility will remain constant throughout her reproductive years.Find more statistics on other topics about Ethiopia with key insights such as death rate, crude birth rate, and infant mortality rate.
