The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. To measure the two variables, namely (a) population and (b) population as a percentage of the total population, we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the age groups. For age groups we divided it into roughly a 5 year bucket for ages between 0 and 85. For over 85, we aggregated data into a single group for all ages. Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the data for the Malta, MT population pyramid, which represents the Malta population distribution across age and gender, using estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. It lists the male and female population for each age group, along with the total population for those age groups. Higher numbers at the bottom of the table suggest population growth, whereas higher numbers at the top indicate declining birth rates. Furthermore, the dataset can be utilized to understand the youth dependency ratio, old-age dependency ratio, total dependency ratio, and potential support ratio.

    Key observations

    • Youth dependency ratio, which is the number of children aged 0-14 per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Malta, MT, is 35.8.
    • Old-age dependency ratio, which is the number of persons aged 65 or over per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Malta, MT, is 41.3.
    • Total dependency ratio for Malta, MT is 77.1.
    • Potential support ratio, which is the number of youth (working age population) per elderly, for Malta, MT is 2.4.

All population components are based on definitions provided for in the European Regulation (EU) No. 1260/2013 on European demographic statistics. Total Population: includes both Maltese and foreign residents. The total population at the end of year t, is computed using the following equation: Pt = Pt-1 + Bt - Dt + It – Et, where Pt is the total resident population at the end of year t, Pt-1 is the total resident population at the end of year t-1, Bt is the total number of births born to mothers resident in Malta registered during year t, Dt is the total number of deaths of persons resident in Malta registered during year t, It is the total immigration of both Maltese and foreign nationals registered during year t who immigrated with the intention to live in Malta for a period of at least 12 months. Et is the total emigration of both Maltese and foreign nationals resident in Malta registered during year t who leave the country for a period of at least 12 months. Maltese Population: includes Maltese residents only. The Maltese population at the end of year t is computed using the following equation: P’t = P’t-1 + B’t – D’t + I’t – E’t , where: P’t is the Maltese resident population at the end of year t, P’t-1 is the Maltese resident population at the end of year t-1, B’t is the number of Maltese births born to mothers resident in Malta registered during year t, D’t is the number of deaths occurring to Maltese citizens resident in Malta during year t, I’t is the total immigration of Maltese nationals registered during year t who immigrated with the intention to live in Malta for a period of at least 12 months. Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the Malta population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of Malta across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

    Key observations

In 2023, the population of Malta was 1,132, a 0.09% decrease year-by-year from 2022. Previously, in 2022, Malta population was 1,133, a decline of 0.53% compared to a population of 1,139 in 2021. Over the last 20 plus years, between 2000 and 2023, population of Malta increased by 175. In this period, the peak population was 1,177 in the year 2010. The numbers suggest that the population has already reached its peak and is showing a trend of decline. Source: U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates Program (PEP).

Measurement technique
The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. To measure the two variables, namely (a) population and (b) population as a percentage of the total population, we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the age groups. For age groups we divided it into roughly a 5 year bucket for ages between 0 and 85. For over 85, we aggregated data into a single group for all ages. For further information regarding these estimates, please feel free to reach out to us via email at research@neilsberg.com.

Description
About this dataset

Context

The dataset tabulates the Malta population distribution across 18 age groups. It lists the population in each age group along with the percentage population relative of the total population for Malta. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population distribution of Malta by age. For example, using this dataset, we can identify the largest age group in Malta.

Key observations

The largest age group in Malta, MT was for the group of age 65 to 69 years years with a population of 247 (12.99%), according to the ACS 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. At the same time, the smallest age group in Malta, MT was the 30 to 34 years years with a population of 13 (0.68%). Variables / Data Columns

  • Age Group: This column displays the age group in consideration
  • Population: The population for the specific age group in the Malta is shown in this column.
  • % of Total Population: This column displays the population of each age group as a proportion of Malta total population. Please note that the sum of all percentages may not equal one due to rounding of values.

Good to know

Margin of Error

Data in the dataset are based on the estimates and are subject to sampling variability and thus a margin of error. Neilsberg Research recommends using caution when presening these estimates in your research.

Custom data

If you do need custom data for any of your research project, report or presentation, you can contact our research staff at research@neilsberg.com for a feasibility of a custom tabulation on a fee-for-service basis.
