According to our latest research, the global fantasy sports market size reached USD 29.4 billion in 2024, reflecting robust growth driven by increasing digital adoption and the rising popularity of sports-based entertainment worldwide. The market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 13.7% from 2025 to 2033, reaching a forecasted value of USD 92.3 billion by 2033. This impressive expansion is fueled by technological advancements, growing smartphone penetration, and evolving consumer preferences for interactive and immersive experiences in sports engagement.
One of the primary growth factors for the fantasy sports market is the surge in internet connectivity and mobile device usage globally. With the proliferation of affordable smartphones and high-speed internet, users can now access fantasy sports platforms seamlessly, regardless of their location. This accessibility has democratized participation, enabling fans from diverse demographics to actively engage in fantasy leagues. Furthermore, the integration of real-time data analytics and AI-driven insights has enhanced user experience, making team selection, performance tracking, and in-game strategies more interactive and data-driven. This technological integration not only attracts seasoned sports enthusiasts but also draws in new users seeking an engaging and competitive environment.
Another significant driver is the increasing popularity of major sporting events and leagues, which has a direct positive impact on the fantasy sports ecosystem. Global events such as the FIFA World Cup, the Indian Premier League (IPL), the National Football League (NFL), and the NBA have witnessed exponential viewership, translating into higher user engagement on fantasy platforms. Brands and sponsors are leveraging this trend by partnering with fantasy sports companies to enhance fan engagement and brand visibility. Additionally, the gamification of sports through fantasy leagues allows users to test their knowledge, compete with peers, and win rewards, further incentivizing participation and boosting market growth.
The evolving regulatory landscape is also shaping the future of the fantasy sports market. Several countries are recognizing fantasy sports as a game of skill rather than chance, leading to favorable regulatory frameworks that encourage innovation and investment. This legal clarity has attracted significant venture capital and strategic partnerships, fostering the development of advanced platforms with enhanced security, transparency, and user trust. However, regulatory challenges persist in certain regions, necessitating ongoing dialogue between industry stakeholders and policymakers to ensure responsible growth and user protection.
From a regional perspective, North America continues to dominate the fantasy sports market, accounting for the largest share in 2024, followed by Asia Pacific and Europe. The North American market benefits from a mature sports culture, high digital literacy, and established leagues, while Asia Pacific is witnessing rapid growth due to its large, young population and increasing adoption of digital entertainment platforms. Europe is also emerging as a key market, driven by the popularity of football and cricket-based fantasy leagues. The Middle East & Africa and Latin America are gradually gaining traction, supported by improving internet infrastructure and rising interest in sports-based gaming.
The platform segment of the fantasy sports market is bifurcated into web-based and mobile-based platforms, each playing a pivotal role in shaping user engagement and market dynamics. Web-based platforms were the initial drivers of the fantasy sports industry, offering comprehensive interfaces and robust functionalities catering to desktop users. These platforms continue to attract a significant user base, particularly among older demographics and traditional fantasy sports enthusiasts who prefer detailed analytics, in-depth research tools, and multi-league management features. IntroductionAs legalized sports betting becomes increasingly integrated into American sports culture—particularly within the NFL—concerns have emerged about how such practices influence fans’ emotional engagement, behavioral dependency, and moral judgment. This study investigates age-based variation in betting behaviors and identifies key predictors of media consumption, perceived dependency, and concern for others’ gambling habits.MethodsA cross-sectional online survey (N= 492) was administered in 2024 using snowball sampling to recruit NFL fans. Branching logic ensured that only those with direct sports betting experience completed all attitudinal questions. Fifteen Likert-scale items measured cognitive, behavioral, and emotional responses to betting. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) identified latent constructs, and multiple regression models tested four research questions related to fan engagement, moral concern, dependency, and intervention attitudes.ResultsEFA revealed four dimensions: Personal Betting Habits, Betting-Driven Enjoyment, Concern for Others, and Perceived Social Addiction. Perceived obsession with betting was the only consistent and strong predictor of increased sports media engagement. Demographic factors such as age and gender were not significant predictors. Concern for others’ gambling behavior was only weakly related to personal dependency and confrontation attitudes.DiscussionFindings suggest a form of cognitive dissonance among sports bettors, who may recognize problematic behavior in others but refrain from acting on it, especially when they are highly engaged themselves. This study contributes a multidimensional model of betting-related engagement and highlights the need for improved psychometrics, stakeholder awareness, and future longitudinal research on the psychological complexities of sports gambling.

According to our latest research, the global sports video games market size reached USD 13.4 billion in 2024, reflecting a robust demand for interactive sports entertainment worldwide. The market is anticipated to expand at a CAGR of 8.2% from 2025 to 2033, resulting in a forecasted market size of USD 27.1 billion by 2033. This impressive growth trajectory is primarily driven by the increasing penetration of gaming consoles, the surge in mobile gaming adoption, and the integration of advanced technologies such as augmented reality and artificial intelligence, which are transforming the user experience and engagement levels within the sports video games industry.
One of the most significant growth factors for the sports video games market is the ongoing evolution of gaming technology and hardware. Gaming consoles and high-performance PCs have become more accessible and affordable, enabling a broader demographic to participate in immersive gaming experiences. The introduction of next-generation consoles, such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, has set new standards for graphics, processing power, and gameplay realism, making sports video games more appealing than ever before. Additionally, the rise of cloud gaming services and cross-platform compatibility is eliminating barriers for gamers, further fueling the adoption of sports video games across different platforms. The proliferation of high-speed internet and advancements in graphics engines have also played a crucial role in enhancing the visual and interactive aspects of these games, making them more lifelike and engaging.
Another key driver for the sports video games market is the increasing popularity of eSports and online multiplayer modes. Competitive gaming has shifted from niche communities to mainstream entertainment, with sports video games like FIFA, NBA 2K, and Madden NFL hosting global tournaments that attract millions of viewers and participants. This trend has not only expanded the market's reach but also created new revenue streams through sponsorships, advertising, and in-game purchases. The ability to connect with friends and compete against players worldwide has elevated the social aspect of gaming, making it a primary form of recreation for many. Furthermore, sports video games are increasingly being used as a tool for fan engagement by professional sports leagues, providing fans with interactive experiences that extend beyond traditional viewership.
The mobile gaming revolution is also a substantial growth catalyst for the sports video games market. With the widespread adoption of smartphones and tablets, sports games have become more accessible to casual gamers and younger audiences. Mobile sports video games, often free-to-play with in-app purchases, have democratized access to gaming and introduced millions to the genre. Developers are leveraging advanced graphics, intuitive controls, and regular content updates to keep players engaged and drive monetization. The integration of social features and real-time multiplayer capabilities on mobile platforms has further enhanced user engagement, making mobile a critical segment in the overall growth of the sports video games market.
From a regional perspective, North America and Europe have traditionally dominated the sports video games market, driven by high console penetration, strong eSports culture, and established gaming infrastructure. However, the Asia Pacific region is emerging as a high-growth market, fueled by rapid urbanization, increasing disposable incomes, and a young, tech-savvy population. Countries such as China, Japan, and South Korea are witnessing exponential growth in both console and mobile gaming segments. The region's burgeoning eSports ecosystem and the popularity of local sports have further contributed to the rising demand for sports video games. Latin America and the Middle East & Africa are also showing promising growth trajectories, albeit from a smaller base, as mobile gaming continues to break down traditional barriers to entry.
The sports video games market is segmented by game type, including soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis, golf, racing, and others. Soccer games, led by franchises such as FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer, account for the largest share of the market. The global appeal of soccer and its massive fan base have translated into consistently high sales figures and player engagement. Soccer

For the professional sports leagues in the United States, MLB, MLS, NBA, NFL and NHL a dataset containing restaurants information around the teams stadiums/arenas.
Date: 26/5/2021 The data has been obtained by using the Yelp Fusion API, requesting the information of restaurants in a 3000 meters (1.86 miles) radius centered in the teams stadiums/arenas. Yelp Fusion API only returns a max of 50 of business results per request, but it can be offset to return up to a maximum of 1000 businesses. The offset results were cleaned and merged with some of the team information in one single JSON file per team, per sport league.
The Jupyter notebooks used to download and merge the data can be found in this GitHub repository.
For each franchise in the MLB, MLS, NBA, NFL and NHL, a JSON file (per team, per league) containing all (see caveats) the restaurants information in a 3000 meters (1.86 miles) radius around the team stadium. Two different sets of data (folders) are provided: 1. In the General folder, no category has been specified, thus resulting in all kind of restaurants in the 3000 meters radius around the stadiums. 2. In the Category, results for the following categories only: sports bars, pubs, wine bars and cocktail bars.
A typical JSON file contains the following information:
league: the sport league
team: the name of the team
stadium: the name of the stadium/arena
stadium latitude: latitude of the stadium/arena
stadium longitude: longitude of the stadium/arena
radius: radius of the circle around the stadium/arena
city: the city where the team is based
state: US State where the city is.
businesses: all the restaurants and their information found in the radius centered in the stadium latitude and longitude.
- For each business:
id: business/restaurant Yelp id
alias: business/restaurant alias
name: business/restaurant name
image url: image of the business/restaurant
is closed: boolean indicating if the business/restaurant is closed (True) or not closed (False)
url: business/restaurant webpage
review_count: number of Yelp reviews
categories: categories that the business/restaurant identifies itself
rating: business/restaurant Yelp rating
coordinates: business/restaurant location
transactions: if business/restaurant delivers, pickup food, etc.
price: Yelp price identification system using "$"
location: business/restaurant address
phone: business/restaurant phone number
distance: business/restaurant distance from the Stadium/Arena coordinates.
absolute total: the total number of businesses (restaurants, food places, etc.) found inside the search radius total: the total number of businesses in the JSON file, up to 1000 (see caveats).
The data is limited to Yelp results (so restaurants not registered on Yelp would not appear in the dataset).
Teams in the same city that share stadium/arena are treated as separated teams. So take in account and remove the duplicated city when doing any analysis.
Yelp Fusion API only returns up to a maximum of 1000 businesses, although it returns the value of the total amount of restaurants found. The total amount returned has been renamed to "absolute total" whilst the key "total" indicates the number of businesses included in the JSON file (up to 1000)
The dataset contains Yelp ratings, so be aware of the problems Yelp has with that when using it.
What kind of restaurants are closer to the Stadiums? What type of food/restaurants are the most popular? the most expensive? Which cities has the highest number of pubs or sport bars closer to their Stadiums/Arenas? For cities with teams in multiple sports leagues, how far are their Stadiums/Arenas from each other? What can we say about the restaurants near those Stadiums? Are, by average, more expensive the restaurants nearby the NFL team Stadium or the MLB one? If we bring demographics data in, What can we say about the (normalized) price comparison between restaurants from different cities?
