In general we recommend using the gdb source rather than shp sources for data due to some data loss and field truncation in the shape file archives. Land Use Categorizations Below are the land use codes I categorized parcels by Residential: Any residence land use (single family, multi-unit, senior) Zoning Follow Up: Should not be in the final dataset – used to indicate there's no land use data and needs to be backfilled with zoning classifications Vacant: Parcel indicated as vacant Commercial: Any commercial use, including office, retail Exempt/Government: Exempt land use or government land use (eg: city hall, fire station) Agricultural: Agricultural, or ranch use Other/Unknown: Some other use / cannot be determined Industrial: Industrial, including meat packing School: Schools (K‑12, college, public and private) Mixed Use: A parcel specifically marked as mixed use Open Space/Parks/Recreation: Open space, park, outdoor recreation (eg: cabins, camping, etc) Medical: Hospitals, medical offices, etc Caveats Many parcels did not contain land use codes or contained land use codes that could not be discerned. In that case, zoning designations were appended to estimate the land use. Even with the above process, many parcels were missing a land use classification. The tab Land Use Codes is where categorizations were based on the parcels’ land use codes and descriptions, while Zoning Code Follow Up used the zoning classification that had greatest geographic overlap with the parcel. public_parcel_drcog.shp: The original Colorado Public Parcels file, with the majority‑overlapping zoning code from Zoning 2023 added, and the land use categorizations from Land Use Parcel Standardization appended. parcel_land_use.shp: A final feature class, derived from public_parcel_drcog and dissolved by the zoning categorization appended from Land Use Parcel Standardization. TwitterThe U.S. Geological Survey developed this dataset as part of the Colorado Front Range Infrastructure Resources Project (FRIRP). One goal of the FRIRP was to provide information on the availability of those hydrogeologic resources that are either critical to maintaining infrastructure along the northern Front Range or that may become less available because of urban expansion in the northern Front Range. This dataset extends from the Boulder-Jefferson County line on the south, to the middle of Larimer and Weld Counties on the North. On the west, this dataset is bounded by the approximate mountain front of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains; on the east, by an arbitrary north-south line extending through a point about 6.5 kilometers east of Greeley. This digital geospatial dataset consists of depth-to-water (unsaturated-thickness) contours that were generated from hydrogeologic data with Geographic Information System (GIS) software.

TwitterThis digital data release contains geospatial geologic and paleontological data of the 1° x2 °, 1:250,000 Limon quadrangle covering eastern Colorado and western Kansas. The dataset is a digital reproduction of previously published U.S. Geological Survey field mapping which illustrates the spatial configuration of primarily Quaternary surficial units overlying upper Miocene, Oligocene, Paleocene, and Upper Cretaceous bedrock (Sharps, 1980). This quadrangle contains numerous outcrop of the Ogallala Formation, which is a prolific freshwater aquifer throughout the broader great plains. A structure contour map of the top of the Dakota Sandstone are included, which was constructed using selected oil and gas well logs (Sharps, 1980). The Dakota Sandstone is a productive hydrocarbon reservoir within the Limon quadrangle, and the broader Denver-Julesburg Basin. Point data for Mesozoic invertebrate fossil collection localities are depicted on the map, depicted with either Denver or Washington D.C. U.S. Geological Survey catalog numbers (Sharps, 1980). The digital geologic database presented here is an accurate replication of original US. Geological Survey mapping in the Limon quadrangle (Sharps, 1980). Geologic map polygons, fossil points, faunal zones, and structure contours were digitized and attributed as GIS data sets as part of the U.S. Geological Survey’s ongoing studies on a regional and national scale. The geologic map polygons, fossil point features, faunal zone lines, and structure contour lines are distributed as separate feature classes within a geographic information system geodatabase. Contoured elevation values are given in feet, to maintain consistency with the original publication, and in meters. Nonspatial tables define the data sources used, define terms used in the dataset, and describe the geologic units. A tabular data dictionary describes the entity and attribute information for all attributes of the geospatial data and the accompanying nonspatial tables.

These line shapefiles trace apparent topographic and air-photo lineaments in various counties in Colorado. It was made in order to identify possible fault and fracture systems that might be conduits for geothermal fluids, as part of a DOE reconnaissance geothermal exploration program.
Geothermal fluids commonly utilize fault and fractures in competent rocks as conduits for fluid flow. Geothermal exploration involves finding areas of high near-surface temperature gradients, along with a suitable "plumbing system" that can provide the necessary permeability. Geothermal power plants can sometimes be built where temperature and flow rates are high.
This line shapefile is an attempt to use desktop GIS to delineate possible faults and fracture orientations and locations in highly prospective areas prior to an initial site visit. Geochemical sampling and geologic mapping could then be centered around these possible faults and fractures.
To do this, georeferenced topographic maps and aerial photographs were utilized in an existing GIS, using ESRI ArcMap 10.0 software. The USA_Topo_Maps and World_Imagery map layers were chosen from the GIS Server at server.arcgisonline.com, using a UTM Zone 13 NAD27 projection. This line shapefile was then constructed over that which appeared to be through-going structural lineaments in both the aerial photographs and topographic layers, taking care to avoid manmade features such as roads, fence lines, and utility right-of-ways. Still, it is unknown what actual features these lineaments, if they exist, represent.
Although the shapefiles are arranged by county, not all areas within any county have been examined for lineaments. Work was focused on either satellite thermal infrared anomalies, known hot springs or wells, or other evidence of geothermal systems. Finally, lineaments may be displaced somewhat from their actual location, due to such factors as shadow effects with low sun angles in the aerial photographs.
Credits: These lineament shapefile was created by Geothermal Development Associates, as part of a geothermal geologic reconnaissance performed by Flint Geothermal, LLC, of Denver Colorado.
Use Limitation: These shapefiles were constructed as an aid to geothermal exploration in preparation for a site visit for field checking. We make no claims as to the existence of the lineaments, their location, orientation, and/or nature.

TwitterCitation: Manley, W.F., Parrish, E.G., and Lestak, L.R., 2009, High-Resolution Orthorectified Imagery and Digital Elevation Models for Study of Environmental Change at Niwot Ridge and Green Lakes Valley, Colorado: Niwot Ridge LTER, INSTAAR, University of Colorado at Boulder, digital media. This image is a mosaic of orthorectified aerial photography from 1946 for the Niwot Ridge Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) project area at 0.3 m resolution. The image also covers the Green Lakes Valley portion of the Boulder Creek Critical Zone Observatory (CZO). The 1938 companion mosaic covers the eastern portion of the Niwot LTER project area and was produced with maximum overlap of the 1946 mosaic. The mosaic has the qualities of a photograph and the functionality of a map layer for use in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or remote sensing software. The mosaic is derived from approx. 1:20,000 scale, black and white (grayscale) photographs acquired by the United States Forest Service (USFS). The aerial photos were obtained as 1800 dpi digital scans from the Colorado Aerial Photo Service and then fully orthorectified in a Leica Photogrammetry Suite (LPS) bundle blockfile using an air-photo camera model, a Digital Elevation Model (DEM), known focal length, and hand-measured fiducial coordinates. Individual photo frames were mosaiced with cutlines, then adjusted with additional geocorrection in ArcMap using a 2nd order polynomial warp, and clipped to the Niwot project extent area. The photography was registered to 2008 orthocorrected Denver Region Council of Governments (DRCOG) aerial photography. Horizontal accuracy is 1.8 m (RMSE, relative to the 2008 reference imagery, based on 6 independent check points). The mosaic covers an area of 63 km2 and is available in GeoTIFF format, in a UTM zone 13 projection and NAD83 horizontal datum, with FGDC-compliant metadata. The mosaic is available through an unrestricted public license, and can be obtained by request (see Distributor contact information below). Other datasets available in this series includes orthorectified aerial photograph mosaics (for 1938, 1953, 1972, 1985, 1990, 1999, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008), digital elevation models (DEM's), and accessory map layers. Together, the DEM's and imagery will be of interest to students, research scientists, and others for observation and analysis of natural features and ecosystems. NOTE: This EML metadata file does not contain important geospatial data processing information. Before using any NWT LTER geospatial data read the arcgis metadata XML file in either ISO or FGDC compliant format, using ArcGIS software (ArcCatalog > description), or by viewing the .xml file provided with the geospatial dataset.

TwitterThe map and descriptions offer information that may be used for: land-use planning (e.g. selecting land fill sites, greenbelts, avoiding geologic hazards), for finding aggregate resources (crushed rock, sand, and gravel), for study of geomorphology and Quaternary geology. Geologic hazards (e.g., landslides, swelling soils, heaving bedrock, and flooding) known to be located in, or characteristic of some mapped units, were identified.
Surficial deposits in the quadrangle partially record depositional events of the Quaternary Period (the most recent 1.8 million years). Some events such as floods are familiar to persons living in the area, while other recorded events are pre-historical. The latter include glaciation, probable large earthquakes, protracted drought, and widespread deposition of sand and silt by wind. At least twice in the past 200,000 years (most recently about 30,000 to 12,000 years ago) global cooling caused glaciers to form along the Continental Divide. The glaciers advanced down valleys in the Front Range, deeply eroded the bedrock, and deposited moraines (map units tbg, tbj) and outwash (ggq, gge). On the plains (east part of map), eolian sand (es), stabilized dune sand (ed), and loess (elb) are present and in places contain buried paleosols. These deposits indicate that periods of sand dune deposition alternated with periods of stabilized dunes and soil formation.
Thirty-nine types of surficial geologic deposits and residual materials of Quaternary age are described and mapped in the greater Denver area, in part of the Front Range, and in the piedmont and plains east of Denver, Boulder, and Castle Rock. Descriptions appear in the pamphlet that accompanies the map. Landslide deposits, colluvium, residuum, alluvium, and other deposits or materials are described in terms of predominant grain size, mineral or rock composition (e.g., gypsiferous, calcareous, granitic, andesitic), thickness of deposits, and other physical characteristics. Origins and ages of the deposits and geologic hazards related to them are noted. Many lines between geologic units on our map were placed by generalizing contacts on published maps. However, in 1997-1999 we mapped new boundaries, as well. The map was projected to the UTM projection. This large map area extends from the Continental Divide near Winter Park and Fairplay ( on the west edge), eastward about 107 mi (172 km); and extends from Boulder on the north edge to Woodland Park at the south edge (68 mi; 109 km).
Compilation scale: 1:250,000. Map is available in digital and print-on-demand paper formats. Deposits are described in terms of predominant grain size, mineralogic and lithologic composition, general thickness, and geologic hazards, if any, relevant geologic historical information and paleosoil information, if any. Thirty- nine map units of deposits include 5 alluvium types, 15 colluvia, 6 residua, 3 types of eolian deposits, 2 periglacial/disintegrated deposits, 3 tills, 2 landslide units, 2 glaciofluvial units, and 1 diamicton. An additional map unit depicts large areas of mostly bare bedrock.
The physical properties of the surficial materials were compiled from published soil and geologic maps and reports, our field observations, and from earth science journal articles. Selected deposits in the field were checked for conformity to descriptions of map units by the Quaternary geologist who compiled the surficial geologic map units.

Description Introduction This layer represents the National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA) State Broadband Data Development Program (SBDD) Community Anchor Institutions (CAI) which subscribe to broadband. ''Community Anchor Institutions'' consist of schools, libraries, medical and healthcare providers, public safety entities, community colleges and other institutions of higher education, and other community support organizations and entities. These locations may not offer broadband availability to the public (although most libraries and many schools, and community centers do) but rather offer an opportunity for policy makers to understand where community anchor institutions who have broadband access are which can help in identifying challenges and opportunities to reaching national connectivity goals. Ideally, our end goal is to have every county maintain and provide data directly. The advantage being that local officials have more direct access to acquiring accurate data for their respective counties, and more experience within these counties. Secondly, it will allow each county to sustain accurate CAI data without being reliant on the state government. For example, if Hinsdale county sustained its own CAIs, it would not need to wait on the state to complete and update their CAI data. Achieving this goal will provide the counties in Colorado with accurate and useful data without the limitations of being bottle necked by a single data editing source. Process The existing CAI point data is edited and maintained using ESRI Arc Desktop 10.1. Points have first been verified for their spatial accuracy. They are overlayed onto NAIP aerial imagery. Using a combination of online sources, such as Google Maps and Google Earth, the address and location of each point is verified. If the point is inaccurately positioned, it is moved to the correct location. Attributes are also check for accuracy and updated. Sometimes street names or address numbers are not present, and must be identified through research. Presently a total of 5478 CAI locations have been researched and edited. We were unable to indentify the definitive location of 4% of these CAIs. This results in a favorable 96% accuracy rate thus far. This dataset will be continuously checked and improved upon as time goes on. In addition, CAI locations have been contacted in order to acquire internet speed test results. Currently 1356 of the total Community Anchor Institutions have speed test results. We will continute to add to this number as time goes on. Finally, this data will be accessible and modifiable via GIS services. This will allow county officials to actively edit the data. TwitterThis image is a mosaic of orthorectified aerial photography from 1972 for the Niwot Ridge Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) project area at 0.8 m resolution. The image also covers the Green Lakes Valley portion of the Boulder Creek Critical Zone Observatory (CZO). The mosaic has the qualities of a photograph and the functionality of a map layer for use in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or remote sensing software. The mosaic is derived from approx. 1:55,000 scale, color infrared (CIR) photographs acquired by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The aerial photos were obtained as 1800 dpi digital scans from the USGS EROS Data Center (EDC) and then fully orthorectified in a Leica Photogrammetry Suite (LPS) bundle blockfile using an air-photo camera model, a Digital Elevation Model (DEM), estimated focal length, and hand-measured fiducial coordinates. Individual photo frames were mosaiced with cutlines and clipped to the Niwot project extent area. The photography was registered to 2008 orthocorrected Denver Region Council of Governments (DRCOG) aerial photography. Horizontal accuracy is 1.7 m (RMSE, relative to the 2008 reference imagery, based on 9 independent check points). The mosaic covers an area of 77 km2 and is available in GeoTIFF format, in a UTM zone 13 projection and NAD83 horizontal datum, with FGDC-compliant metadata. The mosaic is available through an unrestricted public license, and can be obtained by request (see Distributor contact information below). Other datasets available in this series includes orthorectified aerial photograph mosaics (for 1953, 1985, 1990, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008), digital elevation models (DEM's), and accessory map layers. Together, the DEM's and imagery will be of interest to students, research scientists, and others for observation and analysis of natural features and ecosystems. NOTE: This EML metadata file does not contain important geospatial data processing information. Before using any NWT LTER geospatial data read the arcgis metadata XML file in either ISO or FGDC compliant format, using ArcGIS software (ArcCatalog > description), or by viewing the .xml file provided with the geospatial dataset.

These topographic/bathymetric digital elevation models (DEMs) were collected and compiled to characterize erosion and deposition in the Colorado River and in an adjacent zone of laterally recirculating flow (eddy) during both average flow conditions and during a controlled flood that occurred in March 2008. The objectives of the study were to measure changes sandbar morphology that occurred during changes in discharge associated with the controlled flood. These data were collected between February 6 and March 31, 2008 in a 1-mile study reach on the Colorado River within Grand Canyon National Park beginning 44.5 miles downstream from Lees Ferry, Arizona. These data were collected by the USGS Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center with cooperators from Northern Arizona University and funding provided by the Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Program.
