    The original Digital Raster Graphic (DRG) is a raster image of a scanned USGS topographic map including the collar information, georeferenced to the UTM grid. This collection includes 24 1:250,000-scale maps, 77 1:100:000-scale maps, and 2296 1:24,000-scale maps. The collar information has been suppressed to enable a seamless statewide image. The collar information may be accessed by downloading an original source image. The date of the scanned map from the original source metadata is included as a footprint attribute. Check the information on the original source images for a possible revision date. Map dates range from 1949-1995.The data in this service is sourced from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

    A Digital Raster Graphic (DRG) is a scanned image of a U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) topographic map. An unclipped scanned image includes all marginal information, while a clipped or seamless scanned image clips off the collar information. DRGs may be used as a source or background layer in a geographic information system, as a means to perform quality assurance on other digital products, and as a source for the collection and revision of digital line graph data. The DRGs also can be merged with other digital data (e.g., digital elevation model or digital orthophotoquad data), to produce a hybrid digital file. The output resolution of a DRG varies from 250 to 500 dots per inch. The horizontal positional accuracy of the DRG matches the accuracy of the published source map. To be consistent with other USGS digital data, the image is cast on the UTM projection, and therefore, will not always be consistent with the credit note on the image collar. Only the area inside the map neatline is georeferenced, so minor distortion of the text may occur in the map collar. Refer to the scanned map collar or online Map List for the currentness of the DRG.

    MassGIS scanned the USGS topographic quadrangles to create a digital database that can provide images of the paper maps. These images can be used as a backdrop for plotting vector data and for interpretation and analysis. MassGIS scanned the 15-minute series (vintage 1982-1990) where these maps were available; the 7.5-minute maps (1967-1979) were used elsewhere. Note that the elevation labels for the contours on the maps may be in meters or feet, depending on the vintage of the original paper map that MassGIS scanned.     The dataset is a digital elevation model (DEM), in GeoTiff format, of the bathymetry of Gillham Lake, Sevier County, Arkansas. The extent of the DEM represents the area encompassing the extent of the aerial Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) data used in the project. Horizontal and vertical units are expressed in meters. The DEM was derived from an LAS dataset (an industry-standard binary format for storing aerial LiDAR data) created from point datasets stored in “Gillham2018_gdb”. The point datasets include aerial LiDAR data from a survey conducted in 2016 by the National Resources Conservation Service (U.S. Geological Survey, 2017), point data from digitized historical topographic maps, and bathymetric data from a survey conducted in June 2018 by the Lower Mississippi-Gulf Water Science Center of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) using methodologies for single and multi-beam sonar surveys similar to those described by Wilson and Richards (2006) and Richards and Huizinga (2018). In April 2019, it was discovered that some of the areas in shallow and/or tree-ridden areas of the lake that had not been surveyed needed additional data in order to generate a more topographically realistic surface. Additional data were interpolated from a combination of elevation data from pre-impoundment topographic maps and from the point datasets of the bathymetric and LiDAR surveys provided in Esri file geodatabase. The interpolated data was added to the geodatabase, the final products re-created, metadata edited accordingly, and the data release reviewed. In response to the second review, a vertical datum discrepancy between the single beam and multi-beam bathymetric datasets was addressed and select areas of erroneous bathymetric data were edited.     Description

    Under the direction and funding of the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (NCGMP) with guidance and encouragement from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), there has been a decadal strategic plan in place to call for geologic mapping across the nation. This call has been increasing the need for digital data that has not yet been made available. With such a demand, physical data is being re-released as vector-based, GIS operable data, which is viable as a corporate asset to the USGS. This collection of reports is part of the compilation and synthesis efforts hampered by the distributed nature of subsurface investigations at the USGS and a general lack of cataloging and archiving of 3-D geological models and subsurface products. Subsurface mapping activities are decentralized and the results are released on a project-by-project basis. This has led to repeats in data being created, thus wasting both time and energy of the end users. Having a clear understanding of what data is available for GIS use is paramount in the mapping groups. As digital collections of data continue, data releases like this will not be uncommon. This release features structure contour, isopach, and thickness data of stratigraphic units as well as chronostratigraphy. Units included in this release span from North Dakota to as far south as New Mexico and are as follows: San Andres Limestone, Glorieta Sandstone, Leadville Limestone, Cutler Group, Morrison Formation, Colorado Shale, Fox Hills Sandstone, Goose Egg Formation, Minnelusa Formation, Mowry Shale, Pierre Shale, Sundance Formation Unconformity, Wasatch Formation, Permian age units, Trout Creek Sandstone, Castlegate Sandstone, Exshaw or Kinderhook Black Shale, San Juan Volcanics, Lewis Shale, Almond Formation, Baxter Shale, Dakota Sandstone, Cretaceous Onlap, and Tensleep Sandstone.

    This digital terrain model represents historical elevations along the valley of the North Fork Toutle River upstream of its confluence with the Green River in Cowlitz and Skamania Counties, Washington. Most elevations were derived from U.S. Geological Survey 1:62,500 scale topographic quadrangle maps published from 1953 to 1958 that were derived from aerial photographs taken in 1951 and 1952. Elevations representing the bed of Spirit Lake, at the head of the valley, were derived from a bathymetric map based on survey data from 1974. Elevations are in units of meters and have been adjusted to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988.

    Description

    This Digital Raster Graphic (DRG) was created using scanned U.S. Geological Survey 7.5-minute 1 to 24,000 scale maps georeferenced in Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) grid. DRGs can be acquired with or without collar information for use in Geographic Information System (GIS) environment. Collarless DRGs can be edge matched creating a continuous collection of topographic maps.

    Description

    Digital line graph (DLG) data are digital representations of cartographic information. DLG's of map features are converted to digital form from maps and related sources. Intermediate-scale DLG data are derived from USGS 1:100,000-scale 30- by 60-minute quadrangle maps. If these maps are not available, Bureau of Land Management planimetric maps at a scale of 1: 100,000 are used. Intermediate-scale DLG's are sold in five categories: (1) Public Land Survey System; (2) boundaries (3) transportation; (4) hydrography; and (5) hypsography. All DLG data distributed by the USGS are DLG - Level 3 (DLG-3), which means the data contain a full range of attribute codes, have full topological structuring, and have passed certain quality-control checks.

    The Digital Raster Graphic (DRG) is a raster image of a scanned USGS topographic map including the collar information, georeferenced to the UTM grid. A DRG is useful as a source or background layer in a GIS, as a means to perform quality assurance on other digital products, and as a source for the collection and revision of DLG data. DRG's can also be merged with other digital data, e.g. DEM's or DOQ's, to produce a hybrid digital file. To download this resource, please see the link provided.
