    The Digital Geologic-GIS Map of Dinosaur National Monument and Vicinity, Colorado and Utah is composed of GIS data layers and GIS tables, and is available in the following GRI-supported GIS data formats: 1.) an ESRI file geodatabase (dino_geology.gdb), a 2.) Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) geopackage, and 3.) 2.2 KMZ/KML file for use in Google Earth, however, this format version of the map is limited in data layers presented and in access to GRI ancillary table information. The file geodatabase format is supported with a 1.) ArcGIS Pro 3.X map file (.mapx) file (dino_geology.mapx) and individual Pro 3.X layer (.lyrx) files (for each GIS data layer). The OGC geopackage is supported with a QGIS project (.qgz) file. Upon request, the GIS data is also available in ESRI shapefile format. Contact Stephanie O'Meara (see contact information below) to acquire the GIS data in these GIS data formats. In addition to the GIS data and supporting GIS files, three additional files comprise a GRI digital geologic-GIS dataset or map: 1.) a readme file (dino_geology_gis_readme.pdf), 2.) the GRI ancillary map information document (.pdf) file (dino_geology.pdf) which contains geologic unit descriptions, as well as other ancillary map information and graphics from the source map(s) used by the GRI in the production of the GRI digital geologic-GIS data for the park, and 3.) a user-friendly FAQ PDF version of the metadata (dino_geology_metadata_faq.pdf).     Triceratops. Stegosaurus. Tyrannosaurus rex. These famous names stomp to the forefront at the mention of “dinosaur,” but the diversity of these “terrible lizards” is likely far greater than those that you, or an enthusiastic kindergartener, might be able to recite. So far, roughly 700 named species of dinosaurs walked the earth between 252 and 66 million years ago. They no longer exist today, but we’ve learned a lot about these prehistoric creatures by studying the clues they left behind in the form of fossils.

    Description

    The files linked to this reference are the geospatial data created as part of the completion of the baseline vegetation inventory project for the NPS park unit. Current format is ArcGIS file geodatabase but older formats may exist as shapefiles. The mapping component of the DINO project used a combination of methods to interpret and delineate vegetation polygons. A trained photointerpreter drew polygons on Mylar overlays covering 1m resolution, 1:12,000-scale, digital orthophoto quarter quadrangles (DOQQs). In order to see fine detail, the interpreter examined the 9 x 9-inch 1:12,000-scale aerial photographs in stereo, and transferred this information to the DOQQ. The Mylar overlays were scanned and corrected digitally for distortion. Digitizing was performed using vector editing in ArcGIS. The monument and environs were interpreted and mapped to the same level of detail. Each polygon was assigned a map class number, alpha code and name, Anderson land use class, and vegetation density, pattern, and height attributes. In order to improve the utility of the map and related data, the spatial database was moved into a geodatabase format.

    NCALM Project. PI: Shane Grigsby, University of Colorado, Boulder.
    Lidar survey of the CU-Boulder campus as part of a solar energy potential and photovoltaic planning study. The acquisition covers 45 km2 and includes East Campus, West Campus, and South Campus, as well as portions of the Flatirons and surrounding areas in multiple return, classified points. The CU Environmental Center is using the Lidar data, combined with building footprint vector data from the campus GIS system, to facilitate site selection for new solar arrays. The Lidar data and terrain products enables analysis of insolation using the GRASS GIS implementation of the SOLPOS 2.0 (SOLar POSition and intensity) algorithm developed and maintained by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). This allows campus solar sites to take into account day length, position of the sun, seasonal atmospheric effects, orientation and the local shading effects from trees, buildings and other structures.

    The Digital Geologic-GIS Map of the Canyon of Lodore South Quadrangle, Colorado is composed of GIS data layers and GIS tables, and is available in the following GRI-supported GIS data formats: 1.) an ESRI file geodatabase (cals_geology.gdb), and a 2.) Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) geopackage. The file geodatabase format is supported with a 1.) ArcGIS Pro 3.X map file (.mapx) file (cals_geology.mapx) and individual Pro 3.X layer (.lyrx) files (for each GIS data layer). Upon request, the GIS data is also available in ESRI shapefile format. Contact Stephanie O'Meara (see contact information below) to acquire the GIS data in these GIS data formats. In addition to the GIS data and supporting GIS files, three additional files comprise a GRI digital geologic-GIS dataset or map: 1.) a readme file (dino_geology_gis_readme.pdf), 2.) the GRI ancillary map information document (.pdf) file (dino_geology.pdf) which contains geologic unit descriptions, as well as other ancillary map information and graphics from the source map(s) used by the GRI in the production of the GRI digital geologic-GIS data for the park, and 3.) a user-friendly FAQ PDF version of the metadata (cals_geology_metadata_faq.pdf).     The point data (stratigraphic picks, outcrop data, resampled map extents, and/or control points) representing the elevation surface of the base of the Cretaceous Dinosaur Park Formation.A set of geostatistically filtered, multi-source point data defining a model zone base. These geospatially-referenced point data may include stratigraphic picks and outcrop data generated by a subsurface geologist, resampled map extents, and/or control points. The final dataset is validated by subsurface geologists prior to being modelled.This dataset represents an extracted output from the Alberta Geological Survey's Geological Framework of Alberta, Version 3 and/or the geological data used in its creation. Version 3 is comprised of 90 layers of Alberta’s subsurface from the ground surface to a horizontal elevation of six kilometres below sea level, excluding the deformed belt of southwestern Alberta.If you use information from this publication in other publications or presentations, please acknowledge the Alberta Energy Regulator / Alberta Geological Survey (AER/AGS). The Digital Geologic-GIS Map of Dinosaur National Monument and Vicinity, Colorado and Utah is composed of GIS data layers and GIS tables, and is available in the following GRI-supported GIS data formats: 1.) an ESRI file geodatabase (dino_geology.gdb), a 2.) Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) geopackage, and 3.) 2.2 KMZ/KML file for use in Google Earth, however, this format version of the map is limited in data layers presented and in access to GRI ancillary table information. The file geodatabase format is supported with a 1.) ArcGIS Pro 3.X map file (.mapx) file (dino_geology.mapx) and individual Pro 3.X layer (.lyrx) files (for each GIS data layer). The OGC geopackage is supported with a QGIS project (.qgz) file. Upon request, the GIS data is also available in ESRI shapefile format. Contact Stephanie O'Meara (see contact information below) to acquire the GIS data in these GIS data formats.
