    Description

The statistic shows the distribution of the workforce across economic sectors in the United States from 2013 to 2023. In 2023, 1.57 percent of the workforce in the US was employed in agriculture, 19.34 percent in industry and 79.09 percent in services. See U.S. GDP per capita for more information. American workforce A significant majority of the American labor force is employed in the services sector, while the other sectors, industry and agriculture, account for less than 20 percent of the US economy. However, the United States is among the top exporters of agricultural goods – the total value of US agricultural exports has more than doubled since 2000. A severe plunge in the employment rate in the US since 1990 shows that the American economy is still in turmoil after the economic crisis of 2008. Unemployment is still significantly higher than it was before the crisis, and most of those unemployed and looking for a job are younger than 25; youth unemployment is a severe problem for the United States, many college or university graduates struggle to find a job right away. Still, the number of employees in the US since 1990 has been increasing slowly, with a slight setback during and after the recession. Both the number of full-time and of part-time workers have increased during the same period. When looking at the distribution of jobs among men and women, both project the general downward trend. A comparison of the employment rate of men in the US since 1990 and the employment rate of women since 1990 shows that more men tend to be employed than women.

    Description

The statistic shows the distribution of the workforce across economic sectors in China from 2014 to 2024. In 2024, around 22.2 percent of the workforce were employed in the agricultural sector, 29 percent in the industrial sector and 48.8 percent in the service sector. In 2022, the share of agriculture had increased for the first time in more than two decades, which highlights the difficult situation of the labor market due to the pandemic and economic downturn at the end of the year. Distribution of the workforce in China In 2012, China became the largest exporting country worldwide with an export value of about two trillion U.S. dollars. China’s economic system is largely based on growth and export, with the manufacturing sector being a crucial contributor to the country’s export competitiveness. Economic development was accompanied by a steady rise of labor costs, as well as a significant slowdown in labor force growth. These changes present a serious threat to the era of China as the world’s factory. The share of workforce in agriculture also steadily decreased in China until 2021, while the agricultural gross production value displayed continuous growth, amounting to approximately 7.8 trillion yuan in 2021. Development of the service sector Since 2011, the largest share of China’s labor force has been employed in the service sector. However, compared with developed countries, such as Japan or the United States, where 73 and 79 percent of the work force were active in services in 2023 respectively, the proportion of people working in the tertiary sector in China has been relatively low. The Chinese government aims to continue economic reform by moving from an emphasis on investment to consumption, among other measures. This might lead to a stronger service economy. Meanwhile, the size of the urban middle class in China is growing steadily. A growing number of affluent middle class consumers could promote consumption and help China move towards a balanced economy.

    Description

Breakdown by age of the workforce as of December 31 since 2010.

For driving agents, the use of age brackets different from other colleges (from 45 to 49 years old and 50 years old and more) aims to integrate the specificities of the special retirement plan for railway workers

    • "Status Agents": also referred to as "permanent executive" within SNCF, this notion designates a statutory position, regardless of the agent's college, in accordance with the provisions of internal directive RH 001 ("Status of collective relations between SNCF and its staff").
    • "Contractual agents": designates an agent who is not in the status, but who is linked to SNCF by a common law employment contract.
    • "College": classification according to the colleges of representation of staff, namely "execution", "control" and "executive".
    • The rolling staff includes the driving agents ("execution of rolling trains") and the crew chiefs ("execution of rolling trains"). ").

These data come from the Social Report published each year by the Cohesion & SNCF human resources. The social report presents data relating to all company personnel with the exception of doctors who intervene in the context of occupational medicine and care medicine for active agents, trainees, janitors and contractual staff under supported contract.

From 2019, the type of workforce taken into account by the Social Report has been modified: the workforce presented is the total workforce (and no longer “real” workforce).

    Description

In 2023, the majority of the labor force in Algeria was working in the services sector. Since 2010, the services sector has employed around ** percent of the employees in the country. Employment rates by sector remained relatively stable in the period under review, with the industrial segment attracting approximately ** percent of the workforce. Economic contribution versus employment Interestingly, the employment distribution across sectors does not directly correlate with their contribution to Algeria's GDP. While services employ the majority of workers, the sector's economic output is proportionally smaller. In 2023, services accounted for ***** percent of GDP, followed closely by industry at ***** percent. Agriculture, despite employing the smallest share of workers, contributed a significant ***** percent to the GDP. This disparity highlights the varying productivity levels across sectors and the outsized economic impact of Algeria's resource-intensive industries. A challenging labor market The labor force in Algeria faces widespread unemployment. Specifically, finding a job is difficult for youth and women. In 2023, the youth unemployment rate was nearly ** percent, while ** percent of the female labor force was not employed. The highly educated population also represented the largest share of unemployed. Furthermore, high levels of informal employment in the country are a relevant concern for the labor market. Informality does not provide job security and even threatens the functioning of the formal sector. In recent times, secure employment has been more important than ever. According to government sources, at least ******* jobs have been lost in the country in 2020 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
