District of Columbia quadrants. The dataset contains locations and attributes of the District of Columbia quadrants, created as part of the DC Geographic Information System (DC GIS) for the D.C. Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) and participating D.C. government agencies.The DCQuadPly was updated in January 2022 in the three following areas: 1) South Capitol Street has had major changes in its location due to the Frederick Douglass Bridge Project. These changes include the actual South Capitol Street Bridge and the adjacent new ovals to the north and south. The new quadrant boundary generally runs along the median of South Capitol Street. There is a small triangular area that is south of the north oval and also west of the South Capitol Street bridge which is in fact part of the Southeast quadrant. 2) boundary was redrawn around 1 HAWAII AVENUE NE so that the address is located in the NE quadrant. 3) Small adjustment of the boundary by Kansas Avenue NW.

These are lands still within the District of Columbia that has never been subdivided into either Record or Tax Lots through the two offices that manage land records (OS & RPTA), this land is referred to as Parcels, expressed as fractions (Ex Parcel 117/36). In this example, the number “36” would be the 36th out conveyance from original Parcel 117. The tracking of parcels was started in 1905 when, by Act of Congress, all the District’s unsubdivided properties which were mostly rural farms at the time were given parcel numbers. Their boundaries were also depicted (in many cases approximated), in large books in DCRA's Office of the Surveyor. Until the late 1960s, building permits were routinely issued by the city for new construction on Parcels, but today all Parcels, like Tax Lots, must be converted into subdivision Lots of Record before permits will be issued for exterior work. Parcels are only found in the old “County of Washington,” north of Florida Ave and east of the Anacostia River. There are no Parcels found within the original city limits or Georgetown. Parcels are not in Squares. There are examples where parcel land may be physically located in the middle of a city Square, but Parcels are not considered part of a Square until they are duly subdivided by the D.C. Surveyor’s Office.

Dataset estimates location and size of trees in the District of Columbia that are not managed by the Urban Forestry Division (https://opendata.dc.gov/datasets/urban-forestry-street-trees/explore). Trees are modeled using an automated feature extraction process applied to 2022 LiDAR data. All data is an estimate, and intended for general representation purposes. DC 2022 LiDAR was used and processed using the “Extract Trees using Cluster Analysis” script which is included as part of Esri’s 3D Basemap solution. All LiDAR-derived trees within 2 meters of a Urban Forestry Division tree were removed as being duplicates. Tree diameter (DBH, in inches) was estimated for the LiDAR-derived trees from calculated tree height (in feet) based on the equation: DBH = 0.4003*height - 1.9557. This equation was derived from a statistical analysis of a detailed park inventory tree data set and has an R^2 = 0.7418. Extreme outliers were also modified, with any DBH larger than 80 inches being converted to a DBH of 80 inches.

This dataset includes all identifiable DCPS public elementary schools, middle schools, education campuses, high schools, and special education schools, as well as learning centers. This dataset does not include private or charter schools. School locations were identified from a database from the District of Columbia Public Schools, Office of Facilities Management.
