    Description

In 2017, the highest divorce rate concerned five year-long marriages with **** divorces per thousand marriages. France counts five types of divorce proceedings, going from mutual consent to fault. This variety has been decided to modernize the process of divorce and has also instituted a new divorce without judiciary process. In a country where the divorce rate reached ** per every 100 marriages in 2016, couples do not always have to pass before the judge to get divorced.

The longer you are married, the least you are willing to get divorced

In 2017, divorces in France largely concerned marriages which lasted between 5 to 24 years. That same year only ***** divorces were pronounced for a couple married for 35 to 39 years. As seen before, in 2017 the divorce rate for five year-long marriages reached **** per 1,000, compared to * per one thousand marriages for ** year-long marriages. This phenomenon could be explained by the fact that older generations appear to divorce less than younger ones.

    Getting divorced in France

Mutual consent represented the majority of divorce proceedings in France in 2017. This procedure allows couples to make an agreement with their lawyer which will point all the effects of the separation. With this new procedure divorced couples do not need to pass before the judge anymore. However, contentious divorces are still common and concerned more than ****** divorces pronounced in France in 2017 which involved one child. Consequently, with a high divorce rate in France, more and more children do have divorced parents now. In 2016, almost * percent of children aged 13 years old in France were living in joint physical custody.

In 2020, the number of divorces in France was of 57,437. France had a divorce rate of 55 per 100 marriages in 2020. A number which was not one of the highest in Europe but that emphasizes the fact that in recent years, divorce is a phenomenon with a significant impact on Western countries. The characteristics of French divorces Despite a record number of 152,020 separations in 2005, the number of divorces in France remained stable since the mid-2000s and has also been declining by a rate of 8 percent between 2004 and 2014. Since then, the number of divorces remained almost the same in the country, even though an decrease has been seen between 2016 and 2017. In 2019, the majority of divorces in France were pronounced by mutual consent. Most of divorces pronounced in France concerned marriages which lasted between 4 years and 7 years. Unions in France The number of marriages in France is decreasing since 2004 and reached 220,000 in 2021, compared to 236,826 ten years before. Same-sex marriage was legalized in France since 2013, but civil partnerships are the type of unions that increased in recent years. More than 205,000 civil partnerships were contracted in 2010 in France. Implemented in 1999, civil unions in France are established between two individuals regardless of gender.

    Abstract

The Marriages and Divorces (MD) dataset is one of three primary sources of of marriage and divorce statistics in South Africa. Unlike the other two sources (population censuses and household sample surveys), the MD dataset is compiled from administrative data and based on continuous recording (i.e., from civil registration systems and administrative records). Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) regularly publishes a series of data on marriages and divorces, with the first dataset in the series beginning in 2006. The most recent dataset in the series is MD 2020.

Marriage data: Data on marriages for citizens and permanent residents are obtained from registered marriage records that are collected through the civil registration systems of the Department of Home Affairs (DHA). South Africa recognizes three types of marriages by law: civil marriages, customary marriages and civil unions. Before 2008, marriage data only covered civil marriages. The registration of customary marriages and civil unions began in 2003 and 2007 respectively. However, from 2008 onwards, Stats SA began publishing available data on customary marriages and civil unions.

Divorce data: Data on divorces are obtained from various regional courts that deal with divorce matters. The data are based on successful divorce cases that have been issued with a decree of divorce by the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DoJCD). Divorce cases come from marriages that were registered in different years as well as divorce cases that were filed in different years but whose divorce decrees were granted in the relevant year of collection.

NOTE: although both the data on marriages and divorces are collected in the same year, the data sets are not linked to each other.

Geography is problematic in this dataset as not all the data files have geographic data. The Civil Marriages and Civil Unions data files include a Province of Registration variable, but the Customary Marriages data file does not. There is also no geographical data in the Divorces file. As this data file includes divorce data from only a subset of divorce courts, this lack of geographical information compromises its usability.

    Description

How many married couples are in the U.S.? In 2023, there were 62.18 million married couples in the United States. This is an increase from 40.2 million married couples in 1960. Marriage in the U.S. While the number of married couples in the U.S. has increased in the past few decades, this could very well just be due to population change, since while the U.S. population has been increasing, the marriage rate has decreased significantly since 1990. In addition, the divorce rate has almost halved since 1990 despite concerns that more people are getting divorced than in years past. Same-sex marriage in the U.S. After years of advocacy, same-sex marriage became legal in the United States in June 2015. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage was legal in a landmark ruling in the case of Obergefell v. Hodges. In 2015, a clear majority of Americans were in favor of the legalization of same-sex marriage, and approval has only been increasing in the years since.

    Description

Saudi Arabia saw its highest number of divorce cases in 2020, slightly exceeding the ****** cases recorded in 2017. Since 2011, the number of divorces in the Kingdom has risen consistently each subsequent year, with 2019 being the only outlier, dropping by ***** cases from the previous year. Traditional views on marriage Saudi Arabia is still a deeply conservative society, where marriages and divorce are heavily influenced by tradition and familial ties. Cases of marriage and divorce continue to be overseen by the state’s Islamic courts. Unlike the number of divorce cases in Saudi Arabia, the number of marriage cases has been trending in the opposite direction. There is also a notable share of women who were married between the ages of ** and 18 among both Saudi and non-Saudi women in the country. However, as more and more women opt to take on professional careers and pursue higher education, trends are changing. Social reform in the Kingdom Recently, Saudi Arabia has undergone considerable social reforms, which have transformed the role of women in public life. After years of prohibition, women were finally permitted to legally drive as of June 2018. Although the participation of women in the economy has increased in the past years, certain sectors attract more female participation than others. It is safe to say that Saudi Arabia is gradually opening up to the involvement of women in more public affairs. It is therefore expected that the Kingdom may encounter some of the challenges women in other economies have faced for years, such as a discrepancy in average wages between men and women.

    Description

The North Carolina State Center for Health Services (SCHS) collects yearly vital statistics. The Odum Institute holds vital statistics beginning in 1968 for births, fetal deaths, deaths, birth/infant deaths, marriages and divorce. Public marriage and divorce data are available through 1999 only.

North Carolina law defines marriage as the legal union of a male and a female (G.S. 51-1). Legal divorce or annulment can occur only by decree of an authorized court. Annulments, which void marr iage from the beginning, constitute less than one percent of the sum of these events. This study focuses on North Carolina marriages for 1972. Data includes information on the age, race, previous marital status, and education of the bride and groom as well as the place, date and type of marriage.

The data is strictly numerical, there is no identifying information given about the individuals.

    Marriage Counseling Services Market Outlook

The global market size for marriage counseling services was valued at approximately USD 2.1 billion in 2023 and is expected to grow to around USD 3.6 billion by 2032, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.2%. This significant growth is driven by increased awareness of mental health, a higher rate of marital discord, and the growing availability of counseling services both online and offline.

One of the primary growth factors for the marriage counseling services market is the rising awareness and destigmatization of mental health issues. As societies progress and modernize, there is an increasing recognition of the importance of mental well-being, including relationship health. This has led to more couples seeking professional help to resolve conflicts and maintain a healthy relationship, driving the demand for marriage counseling services. Further, the integration of mental health services into primary healthcare systems in many countries is contributing to this upward trend.

Another significant factor contributing to market growth is the increased rate of marital discord and divorce globally. Factors such as financial stress, infidelity, lack of communication, and the pressures of modern life are leading to a higher incidence of marital issues. The rising divorce rates have prompted more couples to seek preventative and remedial counseling services, thereby boosting the market. Additionally, the legal requirements for counseling in some jurisdictions before granting a divorce also play a role in this market's expansion.

The advent of telehealth and online counseling platforms has also spurred market growth. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the adoption of digital health services, including marriage counseling. The convenience, accessibility, and often lower cost of online platforms compared to traditional in-person sessions have made these services more attractive to a broader audience. This has opened up new demographics and geographies to counseling services that were previously underserved.

Regionally, the market is witnessing varied growth patterns. North America holds the largest share due to high awareness, well-established healthcare infrastructure, and the prevalence of mental health services. Europe follows closely, with increasing governmental support and societal acceptance of counseling services. The Asia Pacific region is anticipated to witness the fastest growth during the forecast period, driven by the rising middle class, increasing disposable incomes, and the gradual acceptance of mental health services in countries like India and China.

    Type Analysis

The marriage counseling services market can be segmented by type into individual counseling, couples counseling, and group counseling. Individual counseling involves one-on-one sessions between a counselor and a single participant. This type of counseling is often sought by individuals who wish to address personal issues that may be affecting their marriage. It allows for deep, personalized attention and can be crucial for individuals dealing with issues like trauma, addiction, or mental illness, which may be impacting their relationship. The demand for individual counseling is rising as more people recognize the impact of personal well-being on their relationships.

Couples counseling is the most common and widely recognized form of marriage counseling. It involves joint sessions with both partners and focuses on relationship-specific issues such as communication problems, conflicts, intimacy issues, and mutual goals. This type of counseling is most effective in providing a platform for both partners to voice their concerns and work through their issues together. It is often seen as a proactive step towards improving relationship health before problems escalate to the point of separation or divorce. The increasing acceptance of therapy and counseling in modern society has significantly boosted the demand for couples counseling.

Group counseling, although less common, is another important segment within the marriage counseling services market. This type involves multiple couples participating in a session led by one or more counselors. Group counseling can be beneficial as it offers participants the opportunity to learn from each other’s experiences and provides a sense of community and shared understanding. The collaborative environment can be particularly healing and empowering. This segment is growing, especially among community centers and online platforms that can facilitate such gatherings mor

    Description

IntroductionResearch on the impact of cancer on close relationships brings up conflicting results. This systematic review collects empirical evidence on the research questions whether a cancer diagnosis in general or the type of cancer affects the divorce rate.Materials and MethodsThis systematic review was conducted according to the guidelines of the Cochrane Collaboration and the PRISMA statement. The following electronic databases were searched: Web of Science, Ovid SP MEDLINE, PsycINFO, PsyINDEX, CINAHL, ERIC. Risk of bias assessment was performed with the preliminary risk of bias for exposures tool template (ROBINS-E tool). The grading of methodological quality was assessed with the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale.ResultsOf 13,929 identified records, 15 were included in the qualitative synthesis. In 263,616 cancer patients and 3.4 million healthy individuals, we found that cancer is associated with a slightly decreased divorce rate, except for cervical cancer, which seems to be associated with an increased divorce rate.DiscussionAccording to this systematic review, cancer is associated with a tendency to a slightly decreased divorce rate. However, most of the included studies have methodologic weaknesses and an increased risk of bias. Further studies are needed.
