    Description

Which county has the most Facebook users? There are more than 383 million Facebook users in India alone, making it the leading country in terms of Facebook audience size. To put this into context, if India’s Facebook audience were a country, then it would be ranked third in terms of largest population worldwide. Apart from India, there are several other markets with more than 100 million Facebook users each: The United States, Indonesia, and Brazil with 196.9 million, 122.3 million, and 111.65 million Facebook users respectively. Facebook – the most used social media Meta, the company that was previously called Facebook, owns four of the most popular social media platforms worldwide, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Facebook, and Instagram. As of the third quarter of 2021, there were around 3.5 billion cumulative monthly users of the company’s products worldwide. With around 2.9 billion monthly active users, Facebook is the most popular social media worldwide. With an audience of this scale, it is no surprise that the vast majority of Facebook’s revenue is generated through advertising. Facebook usage by device As of July 2021, it was found that 98.5 percent of active users accessed their Facebook account from mobile devices. In fact, almost 81.8 percent of Facebook audiences worldwide access the platform only via mobile phone. Facebook is not only available through mobile browser as the company has published several mobile apps for users to access their products and services. As of the third quarter 2021, the four core Meta products were leading the ranking of most downloaded mobile apps worldwide, with WhatsApp amassing approximately six billion downloads.

The upper hand among heavy users Brazilians spend more time on social media than any other population in the Western Hemisphere. Their heavy use of these platforms contributes to the prevalence of Mark Zuckerberg’s social network. Through Facebook, people in Brazil try to get to know more about the world and to keep in touch with each other: around half of adults on the social network used it as a source of news.

Limits to growth? In the first half of 2022, Facebook accounted for almost 48.56 percent of all social media site visits in Brazil. Furthermore, throughout the COVID-19 outbreak – the market shares of Facebook, YouTube, and Pinterest decreased in Brazil compared with the first half of 2019.

    Description

As of August 2025, Brazil was home to 186.21 million Facebook users. In Latin America, it was followed by Mexico and Colombia with approximately 117 million and 44 million Facebook users, respectively. In the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic was the country with the largest number of people on the social media platform. Facebook’s forecasted future Brazil is expected to continue building up its Facebook audience in the coming years. It is estimated that by 2025, the South American nation will reach nearly 152.2 million users on the social network. By that same year, more than 96.33 million Mexicans are forecast to be on Facebook, according to another source. Despite such awaited growth, Facebook’s market share decreased in most of the six largest Latin American countries between 2019 and 2020 – the exception was Chile, where an increase of 5.2 percent was recorded. Concurrently, Instagram, also owned by Facebook, Inc., experienced an increase in its market share across the region. Pandemic Facebook posting In March 2020, when COVID-19 was officially characterized by the World Health Organization as a pandemic, Facebook users in Brazil made nearly 37 percent more posts than they had during the same month a year prior. Furthermore, the contents of posts addressing the virus, made during the month of March throughout Latin America, were more visual than textual. Namely, 41 percent of posts using the words ‘coronavirus’ or ‘COVID-19’ consisted of videos and almost a quarter of them contained photos, whereas only two percent included users’ statuses. At that same time, Latin American governments flocked to the social network to communicate with the region's inhabitants, increasing their Facebook posting behavior by almost 36 percent in one year.

    Introduction

Facebook Users Statistics: Despite the rise of many applications, Facebook still retains its status as the most widely used social media platform. The scale and variety of its user base in 2025 may surprise you, especially when compared with its competitors. As of April 2024, Facebook reported over three billion monthly active users (MAU). India has the largest Facebook audience in the world, with 378 million users documented in early 2024.

Furthermore, the United States, Indonesia, and Brazil each had more than 100 million Facebook users. Additionally, nearly 20% of global Facebook users were men who were between 25 and 34 years old, while around 13% of users were women within the same age range. Facebook has firmly established itself as the first social network to surpass one billion registered accounts globally.

As the flagship platform of Meta Platforms, which also includes Instagram, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp, Facebook continues to be the most widely used social media platform.

    Description

Facebook is the leading social network worldwide, and its accessibility through multiple mobile apps as well as its mobile website. In January 2021, over 98 percent of active user accounts worldwide accessed the social network via any kind of mobile phone.

Facebook in mobile-first markets India is thecountry with the largest Facebook audience by far, with 340 million users on the platform, followed the United States, Indonesia, and Brazil all of which have more than 100 million Facebook users each. With the exception of the United States, all of these are digital markets with mobile-first audiences. In many emerging markets, mobile is often the first online experience, providing online users with their first internet experience through inexpensive smartphones and mobile data contracts. In India and Indonesia, mobile by far surpasses desktop in terms of audiences and time spent.

Mobile Facebook access Due to the social network’s wide reach on mobile, it is unsurprising that Facebook consistently ranks as one of the most-downloaded app publishers worldwide. Some of the apps published by Facebook include the eponymous social networking app (and its low-bandwidth version, Facebook Lite), Facebook Messenger (also available as Messenger Lite), Facebook Pages Manager and Facebook Local. In the Google Play Store, Facebook Messenger, Messenger Lite and Facebook frequently rank among the top downloaded apps every month.

I use a Facebook survey experiment to test the impact of political polarization and depolarization on respondents’ willingness to engage in social protest in Brazil and Turkey. In Brazil, the vast majority of willing protesters are non-partisan such that the depolarization treatment increases the total pool of protesters while the polarization treatment diminishes it. In Turkey, the exact opposite is true: most potential protesters are CHP or HDP protesters opposed to the AKP government, such that polarization increases their willingness to protest and depolarization diminishes it. Aside from verifying my overall theoretical argument, the experiment is useful for understanding the magnitude of the studied effects.
