    Description

    Heavy rainfall during mid-November 1996 induced debris flows throughout the southern Oregon Coast Range, including more than 150 in the immediate vicinity of north Charlotte Creek (Coe and others, 2011). Data in this project pertain to a 2.4-km2 area centered at N 43.65° and W 123.94° which an area where high concentrations of debris flows occurred. These data include a subset of a map of landslide and debris flow polygons (Coe and others, 2011) and raster grids derived from a lidar dataset acquired in 2008 – 2009 (https://gis.dogami.oregon.gov/maps/lidarviewer/). The project area covers a tributary basin west of Charlotte Creek, southwest of the Umpqua River, and is in the southern part of the Deer Head Point 7.5-minute quadrangle. These data were used to test an implementation of the Transient Rainfall Infiltration and Grid-Based Regional Slope-Stability Model (TRIGRS, see Baum and others, 2011) for the timing and distribution of rainfall-induced shallow landslides, a simplified three-dimensional slope stability analysis method (Baum and others, 2012), and for testing soil depth models (Baum, 2017).

    Description

    This dataset is a representation of the boundaries of the dry areas within the original claims (or water-righted areas) sourced from the Carson River and tributaries, as identified by the U.S. District Court in the Alpine Decree of 1980. The intended use of these data is to assist in identifying the general locations of the dry areas and associated claims, the claim number, and the source map produced by the Nevada Division of Water Resources (NDWR) and the Federal Water Master during the Carson River Appurtenance Mapping Project. This mapping project was initiated in the mid 1990's and continued into the early 2000's, with the final results being a series of maps identifying the location, size, and associated parcels of each claim of the Alpine Decree, signed by the State Engineer and Federal Water Master. These maps are available on the NDWR website: https://water.nv.gov/RiverMapSearch.aspx. This GIS layer should not be considered a replacement of the signed maps and exists only as guide and starting point to identify the approximate locations of the water-righted areas in comparison to modern parcel boundaries. Further research is required to determine if a particular parcel originally had decreed water rights and has retained those rights. Please contact the Division of Water Resources for more information.In order to produce a GIS depiction of the dry areas, the final signed maps were georeferenced to the most up-to-date version of the Douglas County and Carson City parcel datasets. Each claim and associated dry area was then digitized from the boundaries shown on the georeferenced map and attributed with the assigned claim number, a link to the claim on the NDWR Permit Database, the source map number, and a direct link the source map on the NDWR website. As this layer is strictly a visual representation, no attempt was made to match the acreages listed on the source map or in the decree for each claim.

    Description

    Geologic mapping, in support of the USGS Omaha-Kansas City Geologic Mapping Project, shows the spatial distribution of artificial-fill, alluvial, eolian, and glacial deposits and bedrock in and near Omaha, Nebraska. Artificial fill deposits are mapped chiefly beneath commercial structures, segments of interstate highways and other major highways, railroad tracks, airport runways, and military facilities, and in landfills and earth fills. Alluvial deposits are mapped beneath flood plains, in stream terraces, and on hill slopes. They include flood-plain and stream-channel alluvium, sheetwash alluvium, and undivided sheetwash alluvium and stream alluvium. Wind-deposited loess forms sheets that mantle inter-stream areas and late Wisconsin terrace alluvium. Peoria Loess is younger of the two loess sheets and covers much of the inter-stream area in the map area. Loveland Loess is older and is exposed in a few small areas in the eastern part of the map area. Glacial deposits are chiefly heterogeneous, ice-deposited, clayey material (till) and minor interstratified stream-deposited sand and gravel. Except for small outcrops, glacial deposits are covered by eolian and alluvial deposits throughout most of the map area. Bedrock is locally exposed in natural exposures along the major streams and in quarries. It consists of Dakota Sandstone and chiefly limestone and shale of the Lansing and Kansas City Groups. Sand and gravel in flood plain and stream-channel alluvium in the Platte River valley are used mainly for concrete aggregate. Limestone of the Lansing and Kansas City Groups is used for road-surfacing material, rip rap, and fill material.
