    OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a free, editable map & spatial database of the whole world. This dataset is an extract of OpenStreetMap data for French Polynesia in a GIS-friendly format.

    The OSM data has been split into separate layers based on themes (buildings, roads, points of interest, etc), and it comes bundled with a QGIS project and styles, to help you get started with using the data in your maps. This OSM product will be updated weekly.

    The goal is to increase awareness among Pacific GIS users of the richness of OpenStreetMap data in Pacific countries, as well as the gaps, so that they can take advantage of this free resource, become interested in contributing to OSM, and perhaps join the global OSM community.

    OpenStreetMap data is open data, with a very permissive licence. You can download it and use it for any purpose you like, as long as you credit OpenStreetMap and its contributors. You don't have to pay anyone, or ask anyone's permission. When you download and use the data, you're granted permission to do that under the Open Database Licence (ODbL). The only conditions are that you Attribute, Share-Alike, and Keep open.

    The required credit is “© OpenStreetMap contributors”. If you make a map, you should display this credit somewhere. If you provide the data to someone else, you should make sure the license accompanies the data

The data is created by a large community of volunteers who use a variety of simple on-the-ground surveying techniques, and wiki-syle editing tools to collaborate as they create the maps, in a process which is open to everyone. The project originated in London, and an active community of mappers and developers are based here.     The .osm format

    The format of the data is a raw XML represention of all the elements making up the map. OpenStreetMap is composed of interconnected "nodes" and "ways" (and sometimes "relations") each with a set of name=value pairs called "tags". These classify and describe properties of the elements, and ultimately influence how they get drawn on the map. To understand more about tags, and different ways of working with this data format refer to the following pages on the OpenStreetMap wiki.

    Simple embedded maps

    Rather than working with raw map data, you may prefer to embed maps from OpenStreetMap on your website with a simple bit of javascript. You can also present overlays of other data, in a manner very similar to working with google maps. In fact you can even use the google maps API to do this. See OSM on your own website for details and links to various javascript map libraries.

    The OpenStreetMap project aims to attract large numbers of contributors who all chip in a little bit to help build the map. Although the map editing tools take a little while to learn, they are designed to be as simple as possible, so that everyone can get involved.     This dataset contains 23 30m resolution raster data of continental Europe land use / land cover classes extracted from OpenStreetMap, as well as administrative areas, and a harmonized building dataset based on OpenStreetMap and Copernicus HRL Imperviousness data.

    The land use / land cover classes are:

    The land use / land cover data was generated by extracting OSM vector layers from https://download.geofabrik.de/). These were then transformed into a 30 m density raster for each feature type. This was done by first creating a 10 m raster where each pixel intersecting a vector feature was assigned the value 100. These pixels were then aggregated to 10 m resolution by calculating the average of every 9 adjacent pixels. This resulted in a 0—100 density layer for the three feature types. Although the digitized building data from OSM offers the highest level of detail, its coverage across Europe is inconsistent. To supplement the building density raster in regions where crowd-sourced OSM building data was unavailable, we combined it with Copernicus High Resolution Layers (HRL) (obtained from https://land.copernicus.eu/pan-european/ high-resolution-layers), filling the non-mapped areas in OSM with the Impervious Built-up 2018 pixel values, which was averaged to 30 m. The probability values produced by the averaged aggregation were integrated in such a way that values between 0—100 refer to OSM (lowest and highest probabilities equal to 0 and 100 respectively), and the values between 101—200 refer to Copernicus HRL (lowest and highest probability equal to 200 and 101 respectively). This resulted in a raster layer where values closer to 100 are more likely to be buildings than values closer to 0 and 200. Structuring the data in this way allows us to select the higher probability building pixels in both products by the single boolean expression: Pixel > 50 AND pixel <150.

    This road network dataset was created from data extracted from OpenStreetMap (OSM) across the geographic area of Australia on 05 August 2020. Its purpose is to represent motor-vehicle traversable public roads within Australia. Note, however, as the original dataset is built by a community of mappers, there is no guarantee of its spatial or attribute accuracy. Use at your own risk. This road network has been topologically corrected for the purposes of network analysis for motor vehicles.     Overview: osm: Military rasterized from OSM landuse polygons, first to 10m spatial resolution and after downsampled to 30m by spatial average.

Conditional logic in webform for the newly published Open Drainage Survey was not calculating properly leading to some records with "Undetermined" status and priority. Records have been rescored and survey was republished with corrective logic. Field App version not impacted.March 11, 2025. The Road Erosion Inventory Survey123 questions for Open Drainage Roads are being streamlined to make assessments faster. Coming April 1st, the survey will be changed to only ask if there is erosion depending on if the corresponding practice type is failing. This aims at using erosion as an indicator to measure the success of each of the four Open Drainage road elements to handle stormwater: crown, berm, drainage, turnout.March 29, 2023. For MRGP permitting, Lyndonville Village (GEOID 5041950) has merged with Lyndonville Town (GEOID 5000541725). 121 segments and 14 outlets have been updated to reflect the administrative change. December 8, 2023. The Open Drainage Road Inventory survey has been updated for the 2024 field season. We added and modified a few notes for clarification and corrected an issue with users submitting incomplete surveys. See FAQ section below for how to delete the old survey and download the new one. The app will notify you there's an update, and execute it, but we've experienced select-one questions with duplicate entries.November 29, 2023.     How do I update a survey when a new one is available?While the Survey123 app will notify you and update it for you, we've experienced some select-one questions having duplicate choices. It's a best practice to delete the old survey and download the new one.     How do I save my name and organization information used in subsequent surveys? Watch this short video or execute the steps below:

    Open Survey123 and open a blank REI form (Collect button) Note: it's important to open a blank form so you don't save the same segment id for all your surveys Fill-in your 'Name' and 'Organization' and clear the 'Date of Assessment field' (x button). Using the favorites menu in the top-right corner you can use the current state of your survey to 'Set as favorite answers.' Close survey and 'Save this survey in Drafts.' Use Collector to launch survey from selected feature (segment or outlet). Using the favorites menu again, 'Paste answers from favorite.

    What if the map doesn't have the outlet or road segment I need to inventory for the MRGP? Go Directly to Survey123 and complete the appropriate Road Erosion Inventory and submit the data to DEC. The survey includes a Geopoint (location) that we can use to determine where you completed the inventory.
