    There were over 7.55 million arrests for all offenses in the United States in 2023. This figure is a decrease from 1990 levels, when the number of arrests was over 14.1 million. Arrest rate in the U.S. Along with the declining number of arrests, the arrest rate for all offenses in the United States has also decreased since 1990, from 5691.6 arrests per 100,000 of the population down to 2232.1 per 100,000 in 2023. Additionally, South Dakota had the highest arrest rate in the country in 2023 while Massachusetts had the lowest. High numbers of arrests and unsolved crimes A high number of arrests does not necessarily correlate to a high number of solved cases, and in the U.S., many cases remain unsolved. The crime clearance rate, or rate of closed cases, was less than half for violent crimes in the U.S., and less than 20 percent for property crimes.

    Description

    Updated daily postings on Montgomery County’s open data website, dataMontgomery, provide the public with direct access to crime statistic databases - including raw data and search functions – of reported County crime. The data presented is derived from reported crimes classified according to the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) of the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program and documented by approved police incident reports. The data is compiled by “EJustice”, a respected law enforcement records-management system used by the Montgomery County Police Department and many other law enforcement agencies. To protect victims’ privacy, no names or other personal information are released. All data is refreshed on a quarterly basis to reflect any changes in status due to on-going police investigation.

    dataMontgomery allows the public to query the Montgomery County Police Department's database of founded crime.     This dataset contains Crime and Safety data from the Cary Police Department.

    This data is extracted by the Town of Cary's Police Department's RMS application. The police incidents will provide data on the Part I crimes of arson, motor vehicle thefts, larcenies, burglaries, aggravated assaults, robberies and homicides. Sexual assaults and crimes involving juveniles will not appear to help protect the identities of victims.

    This dataset includes criminal offenses in the Town of Cary for the previous 10 calendar years plus the current year. The data is based on the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) which includes all victims of person crimes and all crimes within an incident. The data is dynamic, which allows for additions, deletions and/or modifications at any time, resulting in more accurate information in the database. Due to continuous data entry, the number of records in subsequent extractions are subject to change. Crime data is updated daily however, incidents may be up to three days old before they first appear.

    About Crime Data

    The Cary Police Department strives to make crime data as accurate as possible, but there is no avoiding the introduction of errors into this process, which relies on data furnished by many people and that cannot always be verified. Data on this site are updated daily, adding new incidents and updating existing data with information gathered through the investigative process.

    This dynamic nature of crime data means that content provided here today will probably differ from content provided a week from now. Additional, content provided on this site may differ somewhat from crime statistics published elsewhere by other media outlets, even though they draw from the same database.

    Withheld Data

    In accordance with legal restrictions against identifying sexual assault and child abuse victims and juvenile perpetrators, victims, and witnesses of certain crimes, this site includes the following precautionary measures: (a) Addresses of sexual assaults are not included. (b) Child abuse cases, and other crimes which by their nature involve juveniles, or which the reports indicate involve juveniles as victims, suspects, or witnesses, are not reported at all.

    Certain crimes that are under current investigation may be omitted from the results in avoid comprising the investigative process.

    Incidents five days old or newer may not be included until the internal audit process has been completed.

    This data is updated daily.

    Why was the data collected?  California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) ranking metric is a tool used to compare similarly sized cities on traffic safety statistics. A smaller the assigned number means that the city is ranked higher, and a higher ranking means the city has worse traffic safety compared to similar locations.

    How was the data collected? Crash data comes from Statewide Traffic Records System (SWITRS). This system collects and processes data gathered from a collision scene. Population estimates come from California Department of Finance (DoF), which are based on changes in births, deaths, domestic migration, and international migration. Estimates are developed using aggregate data from a variety of sources, including birth and death counts provided by the Department of Public Health, driver's license data from the Department of Motor Vehicles, housing unit data from local governments, school enrollment data from the Department of Education, and federal income tax return data from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. Daily Vehicle Miles Traveled (DVMT) come from California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). The Traffic Data Branch at Caltrans estimates the number of vehicle miles that motorists traveled on California State Highways using a sampling of up to 20 traffic monitoring sites and reports on that data. Crash rankings are based on a ranking method that assigns statistical weights to categories including observed crash counts, population, and vehicle miles traveled. Counties are assigned statewide rankings, while cities are assigned population group rankings. DUI arrests data comes from the Department of Justice.

    Who was included and excluded from the data & Where was the data collected? Data for the rankings is taken from Incorporated cities only. This includes local streets and state highways within city limits that share jurisdiction with the CHP. DUI arrest data is only available for cities that report it to the Department of Justice. Data from the OTS crash was sources specifically for Napa County, the City of Napa, American Canyon, Calistoga, St. Helena and Yountville.

    Description

    The purpose of this study was twofold. First, researchers wanted to assess the benefits of the driving while intoxicated (DWI) drug court established in the Las Cruces, New Mexico, Municipal Court in an effort to determine its future viability. This was accomplished by examining the behaviors and attitudes of three groups of convicted drunk-drivers and determining the extent to which these groups were different or similar. The three groups included: (1) non-alcoholic first- and second-time offenders (non-alcoholic offenders), (2) alcoholic first- and second-time DWI offenders (alcoholic offenders), and (3) chronic three-time (or more) DWI offenders (chronic offenders). The second purpose of this study was to explore police officers' attitudes toward court-based treatment programs for DWI offenders, while examining the distinguishing characteristics between police officers who support court-based programs for drunk drivers and those who are less likely to support such sanctions. Data for Part 1, Drug Court Survey Data, were collected using a survey questionnaire distributed to non-alcoholic, alcoholic, and chronic offenders. Part 1 variables include blood alcohol level, jail time, total number of prior arrests and convictions, the level of support from the respondents' family and friends, and whether the respondent thought DWI was wrong, could cause injury, or could ruin lives. Respondents were also asked whether they acted spontaneously in general, took risks, found trouble exciting, ever assaulted anyone, ever destroyed property, ever extorted money, ever sold or used drugs, thought lying or stealing was OK, ever stole a car, attempted breaking and entering, or had been a victim of extortion. Demographic variables for Part 1 include the age, gender, race, and marital status of each respondent. Data for Part 2, Police Officer Survey Data, were collected using a survey questionnaire designed to capture what police officers knew about the DWI Drug Court, where they learned about it, and what factors accounted for their attitudes toward the program. Variables for Part 2 include police officers' responses to whether DWI court was effective, whether DWI laws were successful, the perceived effect of mandatory jail time versus treatment alone, major problems seen with DWI policies, if DWI was considered dangerous, and how the officer had learned or been briefed about the drug court. Other variables include the number of DWI arrests, and whether respondents believed that reforms weaken police power, that DWI caused more work for them, that citizens have bad attitudes, that the public has too many rights, and that stiffer penalties for DWI offenders were more successful.

    *This dataset is updated nightly. Arrest data contains information on people taken into custody by City of Charlottesville police officers. More serious crimes such as felony offenses are more likely to result in an arrest. However, arrests can occur as a result of other offenses, such as parole violations or a failure to appear for trial.This dataset only contains information reported by City of Charlottesville Police. It does not contain information about incidents that solely involve other police departments operating within the city (for example, University of Virginia police or Albemarle County police).

    ADHS Division of Licensing Mission Statement: To protect the health and safety of Arizonans by providing information, establishing standards, and licensing and regulating health and child care services.The Arizona Department of Health Services-Bureau of Medical Facilities Licensing licenses and certifies medical health care institutions and providers of medical services to protect the public's health and safety and assure quality customer service through teamwork in a timely, efficient, and responsive manner.Records are created and maintained by Bureau of Medical Facilities Licensing staff in the licensing division, while the GIS Team extracts the data and creates GIS layers and shares them publicly. Each month, an extract from the ADHS Division of Licensing SQL database is geocoded using ADHS's internal geocoder, and post-processed using a Python script to create and publish feature classes by facility type, including DUI and/or Domestic Violence Offender Treatment Center locations. Last Updated: February 2025Update frequency: MonthlyData FAQs:Some records have “license_expiration” earlier than the “rundate” while the “OPERTION_STATUS” is “ACTIVE”, should we treat all records with “OPERATION_STATUS” of “ACTIVE” as open at the time the data is released? Answer: Yes - ACTIVE is all the current licenses. In 2019 there was a perpetual rule change that affected certain facilities so in lieu of an expiration date, we began tracking the annual fee due date in the "license_expiration" field. Per rule, these facilities can submit annual requirements up to 30 days after the fee due date (aka license expiration in the provider database) so we do expect some to be earlier than the run date. Is the FACID of the same facility maintained unique and same throughout all releases? If a facility is purchased by a different company or has it’s name changed, is the FACID changed? Answer: The FACID represents a licensed premise - in many cases the facility ID is maintained when purchased by a different owner but under federal rule, certain facilities may choose to have a new CMS certification number which would require a new FACID be issued for that premise. What’s the unit type of capacities for different categories? Answer: This varies - it can be child capacity, bed count, dialysis station, etc. For Group_Home_for_Individuals_with_a_Developmental_Disability and Residential_Facility, how to tell if the employer’s office is at the facility VS the employer’s office is somewhere else and employees are sent to those facilities? Also is there a way to tell if a facility only has part time workers (Like workers only need to be at the residential facility less than 8hr per day or less than 5 days a week )? Answer: This is not currently available on the public databaseThe data contains a 'COUNTY' field and a "N_County' field - which one should I use to filter results? Answer: N_County - this is the county that's assigned when a record is geocoded using the physical street address, vs one that is assigned manually during the licensing process.
