Brazil is ranked 124 among 190 economies in the ease of doing business, according to the latest World Bank annual ratings. The rank of Brazil deteriorated to 124 in 2019 from 109 in 2018. This dataset includes a chart with historical data for Ease of Doing Business in Brazil.

According to a study conducted on the ease of doing business in a country as of May 2019, starting a business was the topic with the best performance in Brazil, with a score of ****. Meanwhile, paying taxes had the worst performance in the South American country, with a score of ****. Each topic is measured on a scale from * to 100, where * represents the lowest and 100 represents the best performance in easiness of doing business.

In 2019, Brazil ranked ninth in digital readiness among Latin American and Caribbean countries, with an index score of ***** out of 25. Of the seven components analyzed, the one with the highest score in the South American country was the ability to meet the inhabitants' basic needs, in which it obtained *** index points. The ease of doing business came in second, with a **** index score, followed by the country's human capital, with **** points.

The digital readiness index was analyzed using multiple components, from fulfilling an inhabitant’s basic needs and improving their education to achieving a good business and start-up environment and investing in progressive technology infrastructure.

This study aims to characterize the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) based on an analysis of their regulations that affect the conducting of business. To do so, its theoretical foundation consisted of discussions on institutional theory and conducting business in the BRICS countries. Regarding methodology, data came from the Doing Business project, analyzed using a cluster analysis technique. The countries were separated into four groups: group 1, South Africa; group 2, China, India and Russia; group 3, Brazil; and group 4, formed mostly by developed countries, without the presence of any country in the BRICS. Group 4 was found to be the group with the best countries regarding the ease of doing business.
