    Description

We examine matched point and density forecasts of output growth, inflation and unemployment from the ECB Survey of Professional Forecasters. We construct measures of uncertainty from individual histograms, and find that the measures display countercyclical behavior and have increased across all forecast horizons since 2007. We also derive measures of forecast dispersion and forecast accuracy, and find that they are not reliable proxies for uncertainty. There is, however, evidence of a meaningful co-movement between uncertainty and aggregate point predictions for output growth and unemployment. These results are robust to changes in the composition of the survey respondents over time.

    Description

Policy interest rates in the U.S. and Europe are forecasted to decrease gradually between 2024 and 2027, following exceptional increases triggered by soaring inflation between 2021 and 2023. The U.S. federal funds rate stood at **** percent at the end of 2023, the European Central Bank deposit rate at **** percent, and the Swiss National Bank policy rate at **** percent. With inflationary pressures stabilizing, policy interest rates are forecast to decrease in each observed region. The U.S. federal funds rate is expected to decrease to *** percent, the ECB refi rate to **** percent, the Bank of England bank rate to **** percent, and the Swiss National Bank policy rate to **** percent by 2025. An interesting aspect to note is the impact of these interest rate changes on various economic factors such as growth, employment, and inflation. The impact of central bank policy rates The U.S. federal funds effective rate, crucial in determining the interest rate paid by depository institutions, experienced drastic changes in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The subsequent slight changes in the effective rate reflected the efforts to stimulate the economy and manage economic factors such as inflation. Such fluctuations in the federal funds rate have had a significant impact on the overall economy. The European Central Bank's decision to cut its fixed interest rate in June 2024 for the first time since 2016 marked a significant shift in attitude towards economic conditions. The reasons behind the fluctuations in the ECB's interest rate reflect its mandate to ensure price stability and manage inflation, shedding light on the complex interplay between interest rates and economic factors. Inflation and real interest rates The relationship between inflation and interest rates is critical in understanding the actions of central banks. Central banks' efforts to manage inflation through interest rate adjustments reveal the intricate balance between economic growth and inflation. Additionally, the concept of real interest rates, adjusted for inflation, provides valuable insights into the impact of inflation on the economy.

    Description

Macroeconomic projections aim to predict and understand the future state of the economy on a broad scale. They include information related to economic growth, inflation, wages, unemployment, trade and a number of other macroeconomic variables. Eurosystem and ECB staff produce macroeconomic projections that cover the outlook for the euro area and the wider global economy. These contribute to the ECB Governing Council’s assessment of economic developments and risks to price stability. They are published four times a year (in March, June, September and December). The June and December projections are conducted by Eurosystem staff and include (with a two-week delay) a national breakdown for real GDP, inflation and unemployment. The March and September projections are conducted by ECB staff and are published only for the euro area. For more information, please refer to the projections article published on the ECB website.

    Description

The ECB wage tracker is the result of a Eurosystem partnership currently comprising the European Central Bank and seven euro area National Central Banks: Deutsche Bundesbank, Bank of Greece, Banco de España, Banque de France, Banca d’Italia, De Nederlandsche Bank, and Osterreichische Nationalbank. It is based on a highly granular database of active collective bargaining agreements for Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Austria. The wage tracker should be considered as only one of many possible sources that can help to assess wage pressures in the euro area. They are not the same as wage growth forecasts as they only indicate wage pressures that mechanically arise from the collective bargaining agreements already in place. The Eurosystem and ECB staff macroeconomic projections remain the most comprehensive assessment of the wage outlook for the euro area.

External Controller-based (ECB) Disk Storage Market Outlook

The global External Controller-based (ECB) Disk Storage market size is projected to grow significantly from USD 35 billion in 2023 to approximately USD 56 billion by 2032, at a robust CAGR of 5.5%. This growth trajectory is driven by the increasing demand for high-performance storage solutions that can handle the growing volume and complexity of enterprise data. As businesses continue to digitize their operations and move towards cloud computing and big data analytics, the necessity for efficient, scalable, and secure disk storage solutions becomes paramount. This demand surge is attributed to technological advancements in data storage solutions and the increasing adoption of cloud computing and virtualization technologies across various sectors.

One of the primary growth factors for the ECB Disk Storage market is the rapid expansion in data generation, fueled by the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, social media platforms, and digital transactions. As enterprises strive to harness data for business intelligence and competitive advantage, the need for robust storage solutions that ensure quick retrieval and high availability becomes critical. Moreover, the rise in data-intensive applications, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, further accentuates the demand for ECB disk storage. These applications require high-speed data processing capabilities, which are effectively supported by external controller-based storage solutions that offer superior performance and reliability.

Another significant factor contributing to market growth is the increasing trend of digital transformation across industries such as healthcare, finance, and retail. In healthcare, for example, the digitization of medical records, imaging data, and patient information necessitates effective storage solutions that can handle vast amounts of data securely and efficiently. Similarly, in the finance sector, the surge in digital transactions and the need for real-time data processing and analytics drive the demand for advanced storage systems. Retailers, on the other hand, rely on data analytics for personalized customer experiences and inventory management, further boosting the need for high-capacity, efficient storage solutions.

Cloud adoption and hybrid IT environments are also pivotal in driving the ECB Disk Storage market. Organizations are increasingly opting for cloud-based solutions for their scalability, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness. However, concerns regarding data security and compliance in cloud environments are prompting businesses to adopt hybrid storage solutions that combine on-premises and cloud storage. This trend is bolstered by the capabilities of ECB disk storage to seamlessly integrate with existing IT infrastructure while providing the necessary agility and control over data management in hybrid environments.

Regionally, the market exhibits diverse growth patterns with North America leading in terms of technology adoption and market size. European Union
    Description

From 2003 to 2025, the central banks of the United States, United Kingdom, and European Union exhibited remarkably similar interest rate patterns, reflecting shared global economic conditions. In the early 2000s, rates were initially low to stimulate growth, then increased as economies showed signs of overheating prior to 2008. The financial crisis that year prompted sharp rate cuts to near-zero levels, which persisted for an extended period to support economic recovery. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 led to further rate reductions to historic lows, aiming to mitigate economic fallout. However, surging inflation in 2022 triggered a dramatic policy shift, with the Federal Reserve, Bank of England, and European Central Bank significantly raising rates to curb price pressures. As inflation stabilized in late 2023 and early 2024, the ECB and Bank of England initiated rate cuts by mid-2024, and the Federal Reserve also implemented its first cut in three years, with forecasts suggesting a gradual decrease in all major interest rates between 2025 and 2026. Divergent approaches within the European Union While the ECB sets a benchmark rate for the Eurozone, individual EU countries have adopted diverse strategies to address their unique economic circumstances. For instance, Hungary set the highest rate in the EU at 13 percent in September 2023, gradually reducing it to 6.5 percent by October 2024. In contrast, Sweden implemented more aggressive cuts, lowering its rate to 2.25 percent by February 2025, the lowest among EU members. These variations highlight the complex economic landscape that European central banks must navigate, balancing inflation control with economic growth support. Global context and future outlook The interest rate changes in major economies have had far-reaching effects on global financial markets. Government bond yields, for example, reflect these policy shifts and investor sentiment. As of December 2024, the United States had the highest 10-year government bond yield among developed economies at 4.59 percent, while Switzerland had the lowest at 0.27 percent. These rates serve as important benchmarks for borrowing costs and economic expectations worldwide.
