Official ranking of 173 global cities based on stability, healthcare, culture, education, and infrastructure by the Economist Intelligence Unit

This benchmarking index evaluates the legal, regulatory and operating environments for public-private partnerships in transport and water infrastructure for 19 Latin American and Caribbean countries. The analysis and scores in the model provide a comparable assesssment of individual countries' readiness and facility for PPP project design and implementation. They also provide a regional ranking for each country, allowing investors and policy advocates to focus on strengths and weaknesses.

The average for 2023 based on 193 countries was -0.07 points. The highest value was in Liechtenstein: 1.61 points and the lowest value was in Syria: -2.75 points. The indicator is available from 1996 to 2023. Below is a chart for all countries where data are available.

As per the Global Liveability Index of 2024, five Indian cities figured on the list comprising 173 across the world. Indian megacities Delhi and Mumbai tied for 141st place with a score of **** out of 100. They were followed by Chennai (****), Ahmedabad (****), and Bengaluru (****). What are indicators for livability The list was topped by Vienna for yet another year. The index measures cities on five broad indicators such as stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. As per the Economic Intelligence Unit’s suggestions, if a city’s livability score is between ** to ** then “livability is substantially constrained”. Less than ** means most aspects of living are severely restricted. Least Liveable cities on the index The least liveable cities were in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East and North Africa regions. Damascus and Tripoli ranked the lowest. Tel Aviv also witnessed significant drop due to war with Hamas.

The ranking on the ease of resolving

insolvency is based on the recovery rate

(cents on the dollar). To make the data

comparable across economies, several

assumptions about the business and

the case are used: the recovery rate is

recorded as cents on the dollar recouped

by creditors through reorganization,

liquidation, or debt enforcement (foreclosure)

proceedings. The calculation takes into account the outcome: whether

the business emerges from the proceedings

as a going concern or the assets are

sold piecemeal. Then the costs of the

proceedings are deducted (1 cent for

each percentage point of the value of the

debtor's estate). Finally, the value lost as

a result of the time the money remains

tied up in insolvency proceedings is taken

into account, including the loss of value

due to depreciation of furniture, etc. The

recovery rate is the present value of the

remaining proceeds, based on end-2011

lending rates from the International

Monetary Fund's International Financial

Statistics, supplemented with data

from central banks and the Economist

Intelligence Unit. Indicators resolving

insolvency time (in years) and cost (%

of estate), while also computed by Doing

Business, are not taken into account for

the ranking on the ease of resolving

The millionaire population in Singapore stood at around ******* in 2021 and is projected to increase to about ******* in 2026. This estimated growth in the millionaire population reflects the trend of increasing household wealth in Singapore, which grew by more than 146 percent since 2000. The high cost of living in Singapore is in large part due to the extremely high cost of owning a car, as well as high property and food prices. With the tenth-highest average wealth per adult in the world, and relatively low financial inequality, it seems that the residents of Singapore are able to afford life in the city with the third most expensive beer prices in the world. Declining wealth in old age The reality, however, is far less glamorous. While the median wealth per adult increased in 2019 from 2018, it was still the second-lowest value in the past five years. Many Singaporeans are feeling the pinch, especially the most vulnerable members of society, such as the elderly, who make up the majority of the workforce in jobs such as cleaning. Worryingly, many Singaporeans are also not financially prepared for retirement. This could lead to increasing inequality in the future, with many people unable to afford the lifestyle that they are accustomed to.
