    Out of the OECD countries, Luxembourg was the country that spent the most on educational institutions per full-time student in 2020. On average, 23,000 U.S dollars were spent on primary education, nearly 27,000 U.S dollars on secondary education, and around 53,000 U.S dollars on tertiary education. The United States followed behind, with Norway in third. Meanwhile, the lowest spending was in Mexico.

    The annual expenditure on public and private educational institutions per pupil/student compared to GDP per capita relates the resources (e.g. expenditure for personnel, other current and capital expenditure) being devoted to education in public and private educational institutions to the overall economic welfare of a country. It is based on full-time equivalent enrolment.     In 2021, the Italian government invested almost 8,000 euros per primary school pupil, and around 7,400 euros per high school and university student. However, figures were considerably below the European average. In particular, compared to other EU countries, Italy spent 1,700 euros less per lower secondary school pupil and 1,000 euros less per upper secondary school student. The largest gap was recorded with tertiary education spending. Public investments per Italian university student were 4,000 euros below the European mean.

Description

Out of the OECD countries, Luxembourg was the country that spent the most on educational institutions per full-time student in 2020. On average, 23,000 U.S dollars were spent on primary education, nearly 27,000 U.S dollars on secondary education, and around 53,000 U.S dollars on tertiary education. The United States followed behind, with Norway in third. Meanwhile, the lowest spending was in Mexico.
