TwitterThe Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), is a State-to-State mutual aid compact that facilitates the sharing of services, personnel and equipment across state lines during times of disaster and emergency. It is the most utilized mutual aid agreement in the Nation.Under EMAC, a state can share any resource with another member state so long as the Governor of the impacted state has declared a state of emergency. For example, during the 2005 hurricane season, EMAC was used to move over 65,000 civilian and National Guard personnel for response and recovery missions in the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, and Florida. Congress Ratified EMAC as Public Law 104-321 October 1996.This storymap was developed by the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency and showcases the Commonwealth's involvement in EMAC since 2008. Metrics are updated at the conclusion of each calendar year. Last Update: December 2023
