    Description

Employment by Industry reports the total Number of Employers, the Annual Average Employment, and the Annual Average Wage by industry at the town, county, and state level. Industries included in this dataset vary from location to location. In as many locations as possible, five specific industry segments are consistently present (Construction, Manufacturing, Retail Trade, All Industries, Total Government) as well as the largest 3 out of the remaining segments for that location, ranked by Annual Average Employment. Not every location has data for every segment, and some may not have data for the five consistently reported segments. This data is from the Connecticut Department of Labor Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW). The program produces a comprehensive tabulation of employment and wage information for workers covered by Connecticut Unemployment Insurance (UI) laws and Federal workers covered by the Unemployment Compensation for Federal Employees (UCFE) program.

The largest share of employed persons in Russia was occupied in trade and car maintenance services, which accounted for over 15 percent of the workforce, or over 13 million people in 2023. Furthermore, 14 percent of the employment in the country was provided by the manufacturing sector. Impact of the Russia-Ukraine war on employment in Russia Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia has faced an exodus of international companies, which put their staff at risk of unemployment. Among foreign companies that limited operations or permanently left the Russian market, food industry businesses employed 136,000 people. Furthermore, automotive companies were reported to have 60 thousand employees in the country. The Russian government offered these companies to transfer their assets to domestic investors to minimize the effect on the labor market. The German home improvement retailer Obi, which had employed 4,900 people in Russia, did that in April 2022.

    Description

In 2023, over **** million people worked in the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sector in Vietnam, making this sector the largest employer among all industries. By comparison, the manufacturing industry employed approximately **** million people, making it the second-highest employed population that year. Employment shift: from agriculture to non-agriculture sectors Although agriculture was still the sector employing the most people in Vietnam, the workforce in this sector has been shrinking fast across the last decade. At the same time, other sectors that are the main driving forces behind the reformed Vietnamese economy have been benefiting from this employment trend. For instance, the manufacturing sector’s share of total employment has been growing in recent years, reaching over ** percent in 2022, compared to under ** percent at the beginning of the decade. Vietnam’s export-oriented economy Since its economic reform at the end of the 1980s, Vietnam has positioned itself as an export-oriented economy. This has come hand in hand with the mentioned employment shift, as the manufacturing sector has been responsible for the majority of the country’s most important export commodities, such as mobile phones, electronics, and textiles. On the other hand, coming from an economy previously highly dependent on agriculture, products from this sector, namely timber and aquaculture products, have also contributed to Vietnam’s export income.
