This publication contains data taken from the Adult Social Care Finance Return (ASC-FR) and Short and Long Term (SALT) collection to provide information regarding adult social care activity and finance on local authorities in England for 2017-18. This is the fourth year of the SALT and ASC-FR collections, and the second year in which the adult social care activity and finance data have been brought together in an official statistics report. Please note: On 25th October 2018, Table 4 from the Reference Data Tables - Net Current Expenditure was removed due to an issue in the conversion of cash terms to real terms figures. This was resolved and uploaded again on 30th October 2018. At the same time, data on admissions to long term nursing or residential care in T1 of the Reference Data Tables was also corrected.

This report takes data from the Adult Social Care Finance Return (ASC-FR), Short and Long Term (SALT) collection and Deferred Payment Agreements (DPA) return to provide information regarding adult social care finance and expenditure. This publication replaces the previous Personal Social Services: Expenditure and Unit Costs and Community Care Statistics series', bringing activity and finance data together for the first time in the same publication series. This is the third year of the SALT and ASC-FR collections, and the second year of the DPA collection (although the latter was previously voluntary and this year was part mandatory) PLEASE NOTE: 2015/16 expenditure data for West Berkshire is understated in this publication by £14,000 - this affects the Long Term residential care with a Primary Support Reason of Physical Support for the 18-64 age group only, and has minimal impact on regional and national figures. Data included in the 2015/16 Personal Social Services Expenditure and Unit costs publication remain correct, and should be considered the definitive source of data for this year. We apologise for any inconvenience this error may cause, please contact us at socialcare.statistics@nhs.net if you require further information. Tables 41 and 42 of the reference tables uploaded on 25 October 2017 displayed incorrect codes (CASSR and ONS) for seven local authorities in the South West; names and data in the original file were accurate. On 15 March 2018, their codes were corrected in these two tables, no other tables were affected.
