La Encuesta Nacional de Ocupación y Empleo (ENOE) es la principal fuente de información sobre el mercado laboral mexicano al ofrecer datos mensuales y trimestrales de la fuerza de trabajo, la ocupación, la informalidad laboral, la subocupación y la desocupación. Constituye también el proyecto estadístico continuo más grande del país al proporcionar cifras nacionales y de cuatro tamaños de localidad, de cada una de las 32 entidades federativas y para un total de 39 ciudades.
A partir de la contingencia sanitaria, el levantamiento de información se suspendió en abril del 2020 y se reactivará hasta nuevo aviso, por lo que los resultados que tradicionalmente se publican de ENOE quedan suspendidos. Por otra parte, con la finalidad de ofrecer información relevante para monitorear la situación de la ocupación y empleo en el periodo de contingencia, el INEGI diseñó una estrategia mediante entrevistas telefónicas a través de la Encuesta Telefónica de Ocupación y Empleo (ETOE), considerada de carácter experimental.
Las cifras de la ETOE no son estrictamente comparables en su contextualización teórica con el diseño de la ENOE; sin embargo, resultan una aproximación a los indicadores que tradicionalmente capta la ENOE, por lo que su comparación podría resultar útil como medida de referencia. Ver ETOE

UNIT DESCRIPTIONS: - Dwellings: Space that is delimited, generally by walls and ceilings of any material, with an independent entrance, and used for inhabitation. That is, being used for preparing food, eating, and protecting oneself from the environment. - Households: Group formed by one or more people who habitually reside in the same dwelling and support themselves through common expenses, mainly to feed themselves, who may or may not be related to each other. - Group quarters: Premises intended to provide accomodation to groups of people who are subject to rules for co-residence and behavior due to reasons of health, education, discipline, rehabilitation, religion, work, social assistance and lodging, among others.
The population residing permanently in private dwellings within Mexico. The employment questionnaire is applied to household members age 12 and over.

SAMPLE DESIGN: Two-stage cluster sample with stratification of the primary sampling units. The primary sampling units are groups of dwellings with specific characteristics depending if these are located in urban, urban complement, or rural areas. Stratification is based on urbanization and sociodemographic indicators.
