This feature layer provides Esri 2014/2019 demographic estimates for categories including population, age, income, race, occupation, industry and more. Data is available from country to block group level. Click the data tab for a full list of attributes. This is a ready-to-use layer for ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, configurable apps, dashboards, Insights, Story Maps, custom apps, and mobile apps. The service is intended as an archive to the retired 2014 Esri Demographics map services optimized for trending, comparison, analysis and smart mapping. This layer shows Esri Demographics estimates for the predominant industry by county, 2018.
Census data reveals that population density varies noticeably from area to area. Small area census data do a better job depicting where the crowded neighborhoods are. In this map, the yellow areas of highest density range from 30,000 to 150,000 persons per square kilometer. In those areas, if the people were spread out evenly across the area, there would be just 4 to 9 meters between them. Very high density areas exceed 7,000 persons per square kilometer. High density areas exceed 5,200 persons per square kilometer. The last categories break at 3,330 persons per square kilometer, and 1,500 persons per square kilometer.This dataset is comprised of multiple sources. City staff used ESRI ArcGIS software to create the demographic estimates. ESRI compiles data from the US Census Bureau and American Community Survey (ACS) to generate estimates based off provided custom geographic areas. The data used to create these visuals is not meant to represent Norfolk's authoritative source for City, Ward, or elections purposes. This layer presents the U.S. Census County (or County Equivalent) boundaries of the United States in the 50 states and the District of Columbia, sourced from 2023 Census TIGER/Line data and includes the estimated annual population total of each County.This layer is updated annually. The geography is sourced from U.S. Census Bureau 2023 TIGER FGDB (National Sub-State) and edited using TIGER Hydrography to add a detailed coastline for cartographic purposes. Attribute fields include 2023 estimated total population from the Esri demographics team.This ready-to-use layer can be used in ArcGIS Pro and in ArcGIS Online and its configurable apps, dashboards, StoryMaps, custom apps, and mobile apps.
