Boundaries for these various types of geographic areas are either defined through a documented legal description or through criteria and guidelines. Other boundaries may include international limits, those of federal land ownership, the extent of administrative regions for various federal agencies, as well as the jurisdictional offshore limits of U.S. sovereignty. Sidewalk and Trail Centerlines are collected as a base map data layer derived by automated processes and processed for cartographic representation at 1:2400 scale. Typical features captured in the Sidewalk and Trail layer include are sidewalks, trails, shared use paths, golf cart paths, crosswalks and the W&OD trail features as seen from above and are mapped to National Map Accuracy Standards (NMAS). Supplemental data, including connectors and crosswalks, are captured from visual inspection and digitization from the County's digital aerial imagery. Prior to 2020, Sidewalk and Trail Centerlines were a layer derived from the base map data layer Miscarc_line. Description

The way to access Layers Quickly.

Quick Layers is an Add-In for ArcMap 10.6+ that allows rapid access to the DNR's Geospatial Data Resource Site (GDRS). The GDRS is a data structure that serves core geospatial dataset and applications for not only DNR, but many state agencies, and supports the Minnesota Geospatial Commons. Data added from Quick Layers is pre-symbolized, helping to standardize visualization and map production. Current version: 1.164

To use Quick Layers with the GDRS, there's no need to download QuickLayers from this location. Instead, download a full copy or a custom subset of the public GDRS (including Quick Layers) using GDRS Manager.

Quick Layers also allows users to save and share their own pre-symbolized layers, thus increasing efficiency and consistency across the enterprise.

    Installation:

After using GDRS Manager to create a GDRS, including Quick Layers, add the path to the Quick Layers addin to the list of shared folders:
    1. Open ArcMap
    2. Customize -> Add-In Manager… -> Options
    3. Click add folder, and enter the location of the Quick Layers app. For example, if your GDRS is mapped to the V drive, the path would be V:\gdrs\apps\pub\us_mn_state_dnr\quick_layers
    4. After you do this, the Quick Layers toolbar will be available. To add it, go to Customize -> Toolbars and select DNR Quick Layers 10

The link below is only for those who are using Quick Layers without a GDRS. To get the most functionality out of Quick Layers, don't install it separately, but instead download it as part of a GDRS build using GDRS Manager.

    Description

The County is divided into four policy areas that serve as the basis for all future land use planning. These include the Suburban, Transition and Rural Policy Areas and the JLMAs surrounding 4 of the 7 incorporated towns within the County. Each policy area has a preferred development pattern that is distinct and will determine the location of public infrastructure and facilities over the next 20 years. Eastern Loudoun largely constitutes the Suburban Policy Area and is in turn made up of four distinct communities namely, Ashburn, Sterling, Potomac and the Dulles Communities. The western two-thirds of the County constitutes the Rural Policy Area, promoting rural economy uses and limited residential development. The Transition Policy Area separates the two and is envisioned to support distinct development patterns that will serve as spatial and visual transitions between the Suburban and Rural Policy Areas. A Joint Land Management Area (JLMA) is an area surrounding an incorporated town that is planned to eventually be served by town water and sewer. These areas are governed by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, but are anticipated to be annexed by the towns and are jointly planned by the County and the towns. Data are compiled from the Loudoun County General Plan and subsequent Area Management Plans.

    Description

Global patterns of current and future road infrastructure - Supplementary spatial data

Authors: Johan Meijer, Mark Huijbregts, Kees Schotten, Aafke Schipper

Research paper summary: Georeferenced information on road infrastructure is essential for spatial planning, socio-economic assessments and environmental impact analyses. Yet current global road maps are typically outdated or characterized by spatial bias in coverage. In the Global Roads Inventory Project we gathered, harmonized and integrated nearly 60 geospatial datasets on road infrastructure into a global roads dataset. The resulting dataset covers 222 countries and includes over 21 million km of roads, which is two to three times the total length in the currently best available country-based global roads datasets. We then related total road length per country to country area, population density, GDP and OECD membership, resulting in a regression model with adjusted R2 of 0.90, and found that that the highest road densities are associated with densely populated and wealthier countries. Applying our regression model to future population densities and GDP estimates from the Shared Socioeconomic Pathway (SSP) scenarios, we obtained a tentative estimate of 3.0–4.7 million km additional road length for the year 2050. Large increases in road length were projected for developing nations in some of the world's last remaining wilderness areas, such as the Amazon, the Congo basin and New Guinea. This highlights the need for accurate spatial road datasets to underpin strategic spatial planning in order to reduce the impacts of roads in remaining pristine ecosystems.

Contents: The GRIP dataset consists of global and regional vector datasets in ESRI filegeodatabase and shapefile format, and global raster datasets of road density at a 5 arcminutes resolution (~8x8km). The GRIP dataset is mainly aimed at providing a roads dataset that is easily usable for scientific global environmental and biodiversity modelling projects. The dataset is not suitable for navigation. GRIP4 is based on many different sources (including OpenStreetMap) and to the best of our ability we have verified their public availability, as a criteria in our research. The UNSDI-Transportation datamodel was applied for harmonization of the individual source datasets. GRIP4 is provided under a Creative Commons License (CC-0) and is free to use. The GRIP database and future global road infrastructure scenario projections following the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) are described in the paper by Meijer et al (2018). Due to shapefile file size limitations the global file is only available in ESRI filegeodatabase format.

Regional coding of the other vector datasets in shapefile and ESRI fgdb format:

    • Region 1: North America
    • Region 2: Central and South America
    • Region 3: Africa
    • Region 4: Europe
    • Region 5: Middle East and Central Asia
    • Region 6: South and East Asia
    • Region 7: Oceania

    Road density raster data:

    • Total density, all types combined
    • Type 1 density (highways)
    • Type 2 density (primary roads)
    • Type 3 density (secondary roads)
    • Type 4 density (tertiary roads)
    • Type 5 density (local roads)

Keyword: global, data, roads, infrastructure, network, global roads inventory project (GRIP), SSP scenarios
