This dataset presents the summary preliminary estimates of the resident population by age and sex as at 30 June 2018, this includes population by sex, median age by sex and percentage of the population within a certain age range. The data is aggregated to the 2018 edition of the Local Government Areas (LGA). Estimated resident population (ERP) is the official estimate of the Australian population, which links people to a place of usual residence within Australia. Usual residence within Australia refers to that address at which the person has lived or intends to live for six months or more in a given reference year. For the 30 June reference date, this refers to the calendar year around it. Estimates of the resident population are based on Census counts by place of usual residence (excluding short-term overseas visitors in Australia), with an allowance for Census net undercount, to which are added the estimated number of Australian residents temporarily overseas at the time of the Census. A person is regarded as a usual resident if they have been (or expected to be) residing in Australia for a period of 12 months or more over a 16-month period. Age is defined by five-year bands, starting with an “age 0-4” group and ending with an “age 85+” group. Race is delineated as one of four categories that combine race and ethnic definitions:White Non-HispanicBlack Non-HispanicAll HispanicOther non-Hispanic, including two or more races. Our forecast implements a cohort-component methodology. We specify the base year as 2000 and the launch year as 2018. Thus, we inform the forecast with trends from 2000 to 2018. Using vital statistics data from the Tennessee Department of Health, we project the population change resulting from natural components (births minus deaths). Differences between actual population values as reported by the Census and values predicted using births and deaths are used to establish net migration patterns. The forecast used these predicted net migration patterns; life tables from the Social Security Administration; recent average birth rates by county, race, and age of female; and forecast future U.S. populations.The 2018 base year population estimates for Tennessee Counties are from the 2018 Vintage Estimates of Population and Housing Units produced by the US Census Bureau.

A CMA must have a total population of at least 100,000 of which 50,000 or more must live in the core based on adjusted data from the previous Census of Population Program. The statistic shows the total population of India from 2019 to 2029. In 2023, the estimated total population in India amounted to approximately 1.43 billion people.

Total population in India

India currently has the second-largest population in the world and is projected to overtake top-ranking China within forty years. Its residents comprise more than one-seventh of the entire world’s population, and despite a slowly decreasing fertility rate (which still exceeds the replacement rate and keeps the median age of the population relatively low), an increasing life expectancy adds to an expanding population. In comparison with other countries whose populations are decreasing, such as Japan, India has a relatively small share of aged population, which indicates the probability of lower death rates and higher retention of the existing population.

With a land mass of less than half that of the United States and a population almost four times greater, India has recognized potential problems of its growing population. Government attempts to implement family planning programs have achieved varying degrees of success. Initiatives such as sterilization programs in the 1970s have been blamed for creating general antipathy to family planning, but the combined efforts of various family planning and contraception programs have helped halve fertility rates since the 1960s. The population growth rate has correspondingly shrunk as well, but has not yet reached less than one percent growth per year.

As home to thousands of ethnic groups, hundreds of languages, and numerous religions, a cohesive and broadly-supported effort to reduce population growth is difficult to create. Despite that, India is one country to watch in coming years. It is also a growing economic power; among other measures, its GDP per capita was expected to triple between 2003 and 2013 and was listed as the third-ranked country for its share of the global gross domestic product.

· ERP at 30 June 2018 by ethnic groups (European or Other (including New Zealander), Māori, Pacific, Asian, and Middle Eastern/Latin American/African) – estimates and percentage

· Sex ratio – number of males per 100 females

· ERP at 30 June 2018 by broad age groups and median age

· Geographies available are regional council areas, territorial authority and Auckland local board areas, Statistical Area 2, and urban rural.

About the estimated resident population

The estimated resident population at 30 June in the census year is based on the census usually resident population count, with updates for:

· net census undercount (as measured by a post-enumeration survey)

· residents temporarily overseas on census night

· births, deaths and net migration between census night and 30 June

· reconciliation with demographic estimates at the youngest ages.

The estimated resident population is not directly comparable with the census usually resident population count because of these adjustments.

Ethnic groups

It is important to note that these ethnic groups are not mutually exclusive because people can and do identify with more than one ethnicity. People who identify with more than one ethnicity have been included in each ethnic group.

The 'Māori', 'Pacific', 'Asian' and 'Middle Eastern/Latin American/African' ethnic groups are defined in level 1 of the Ethnicity New Zealand Standard Classification 2005. The estimates for the 'European or Other (including New Zealander)' group include people who belong to the 'European' or 'Other ethnicity' groups defined in level 1 of the standard classification. If a person belongs to both the 'European' and 'Other ethnicity' groups they have only been counted once. Almost all people in the 'Other ethnicity' group belong to the 'New Zealander' sub-group.

Time series

This time series is irregular. Because the 2011 Census was cancelled after the Canterbury earthquake on 22 February 2011, the gap between the 2006-base and 2013-base estimated resident population is seven years. The change in data between 2006 and 2013 may be greater than in the usual five-year gap between censuses. Be careful when comparing trends.
