In October 2019, following Türkiye’s military incursion into northeastern Syria, the issuance of all new export permits to Türkiye was temporarily suspended. This decision was based on Canada’s concern that Türkiye’s military incursion could further destabilize the region, worsen the humanitarian situation, and roll back progress in the fight against Daesh. The suspension did not affect valid export permits, and Canadian companies holding valid permits were able to continue exporting to Türkiye.

AFMER Time Series 2000-2019.csv contains the data originally distributed in the .PDF reports from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF): "Annual Firearms Manufacturing and Export Report," from 2000-2019. This document listed the names, locations, and numbers of firearms, by type, manufactured and exported from each federal firearms licensed manufacturer in the US, reported by the ATF. The .pdf lists were converted into .csv data files, and separated by firearm type. The data were then merged by RDS KEY to identify total number of firearms per facility. The data were then appended by year to create a panel data set. The data are location in nature, and some companies have multiple locations and RDS keys. Adding to the original report, this file contains aggregate exports and total number of firearms manufactured of all type, by RDS key.
