Fauquier County Cadastral Tax Map Index for download

This dataset is the product of a geospatial interpolation using groundwater-level data obtained from a U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) synoptic survey of 129 groundwater wells in Fauquier County, VA from October 29 through November 2, 2018 and selected points from the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD). Methodology is detailed in USGS SIR 2022-5014 "Groundwater-level contour map of Fauquier County, VA, October - November 2018." Files include a continuous raster surface of groundwater-level altitudes at a horizontal resolution of 30 meters and vector lines of discrete groundwater-level altitude contours.

Loudoun County was founded in 1757. Loudoun's boundary with Maryland is the mean low water mark of the Potomac River on the Virginia side; it has not been surveyed. Loudoun's boundary with Prince William County is the Bull Run Creek. The border has not been modified for recent surveys. Individual plats along the Potomac and Bull Run Rivers have not resulted in a change in the border along those rivers- since measurements of the waters edge vary seasonally and the County Boundary needs to be seamless and constant. Many decades ago tax commissioners from surrounding jurisdictions assigned parcels to one jurisdiction or another rather than splitting parcels. Currently there is a mix of parcels split by a County Boundary, parcels taxed entirely in Loudoun, and portions of parcels within the County but taxed by another jurisdiction. The Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue dictates how these parcels are taxed, as do other jurisdictions. In 1957, the boundary with Fairfax County was re-established and finalized. The boundary with Fauquier County was surveyed and monumented in 1966. The boundary with Clarke County was surveyed in 1989, and the boundary survey with Jefferson County West Virginia was completed in 1998. The West Virginia, Fairfax, Fauquier, and Clarke boundary arcs were created by generating coverages from the monument coordinates using the generate command.

This ArcGIS Hub site used by the general public to view Fauquier County FEMA Flood Zone classification information, analyze flood zone changes over the years, access information regarding resources that may be available to property owners, and stay up to date with what Fauquier County is doing to protect County resources.

This map was created to document the many African American cemeteries and burial grounds in Fauquier County, VA. It is still a work in progress, as we hope to continuously update the map with new sites as the information becomes available. If you would like to help in this process, we have a Cemetery Locator Survey available. The information that is currently available comes from several different sources. The primary location of the data is “Fauquier County [VA] Tombstone Inscriptions” by Nancy Baird, which is available on site at the AAHA building. These books were used to abstract the general locations of some of the documented African American cemeteries in the county and, using various methods, many of these sites have been located. We have also collaborated with PEC and the Fauquier County GIS department to obtain information that they have that pertains to the subject of this map.
