This map contains information on the free individuals in Fauquier County, Virginia during the mid-1800s. The map is broken up into towns in Fauquier County and parcels from the 1861 Land Tax Map. The greyed out sections are parcels from the 1861 Land Tax Map that do not have a free individual living on the property. Thank you to Wynne Saffer for providing much of the current information used to create the 1861 Land Tax Map. As for the information currently available, it is important to understand how information is displayed. Some of the parcels have associated data that will be displayed in the table on the left side of the page. Many of the parcels have multiple entries. There are some entries where the residence could be in multiple locations. This is due to the land owner they are listed under having owned multiple properties. In these instances all associated parcels will be highlighted, since we are not sure which they were actually living on at the time.It is important to note that this information was compiled and digitized by people and mistakes can happen. There may be some inconsistencies or errors in the information, and we apologize for those mistakes and will work to rectify any issues as quickly and efficiently as possible.
