In 1950, when Estonia's population was estimated at 1.1 million people, approximately 57 percent of the population was female, while 43 percent was male; this equated to a difference of more than 160,000 people. In the past century, as with many former-Soviet states, Estonia has consistently had one of the most disproportionate gender ratios in the world. The reason for this was due to the large number of men who were killed in wars during the first half of the twentieth century, which was particularly high across the Soviet Union, as well as a much higher life expectancy among women. Greece: Ratio of female to male students in tertiary level education: The latest value from 2022 is 1.06 percent, a decline from 1.08 percent in 2021. In comparison, the world average is 1.21 percent, based on data from 117 countries. Historically, the average for Greece from 1971 to 2022 is 0.88 percent. The minimum value, 0.37 percent, was reached in 1971 while the maximum of 1.16 percent was recorded in 2004.

Earnings after college

Factors such as gender, degree achieved, and the level of postsecondary education can have an impact on employment and earnings later in life. Some Bachelor’s degrees continue to attract more male students than female, particularly in STEM fields, while liberal arts degrees such as education, languages and literatures, and communication tend to see higher female attendance.

All of these factors have an impact on earnings after college, and despite nearly the same rate of attendance within the American population between males and females, men with a Bachelor’s Degree continue to have higher weekly earnings on average than their female counterparts.
