    Description

The mammal collections at The Field Museum were founded in 1893, in the wake of the World Columbian Exposition in Chicago, and have grown into one of the world's premier resources for the study of mammalian evolution. Over its history the collection has had the names Field Columbian Museum, Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago Natural History Museum, and again Field Museum of Natural History. Collections of Recent mammals number more than 236,000 specimens and 550 primary types. Each category ranks it among the largest mammal collections in the world. Although the collections are unique, encyclopedic, and worldwide in scope, those from the Philippines, Peru, Chile, Madagascar, Tanzania, Egypt, and Iran are among the world's very best.

    Description

This is a collection of layers created by Tian Xie(Intern in DDP) in August, 2018. This collection includes Detroit Parcel Data(Parcel_collector), InfoUSA business data(BIZ_INFOUSA), and building data(Building). The building and business data have been edited by Tian during field research and have attached images.

The original source for these layers are:
    1. Business Data: InfoUSA business database purchased by DDP in 2017
    2. Building Data: Detroit Building Footprint data
    3. Parcel Data: from Detroit Open Data Portal, download in May 2018.
For field research by Tian, some fields have been added and some records in building and business have been edited.
    1. For business data, Tian confirmed most of public assessable businesses and deleted those which do not exist. Also, Tian add new Business to the business data if it did not exist on the record.
    2. For building data, Tian recorded the total business space for each building, not-empty business space, occupancy status, parking adjacency status, and took picture for every building in downtown Detroit.

    Description

Overview: This document is a reference guide for users of the SAR Field Data Collection Form User Guide. The purpose is to provide a better understanding of how to use the form in the field.

The underlying technology used with this form is likely to evolve and change over time, therefore technical user guides will be provided as appendices to this document.

Background: The SAR Field Data Collection Form was created by an interdisciplinary group of first responders, decision-makers and technology specialists from across Federal, State, and Local Urban Search and Rescue Teams – the NAPSG Foundation SAR Working Group. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this document and associated materials, please send a note to comments@publicsafetygis.org.

Purpose: The SAR Field Data Collection Form is intended to provide a standardized approach to the collection of information during disaster response alongside resource management and tracking of assets. The primary goal of this approach is to obtain situational awareness (where, when, what) for SAR Teams in the field across four relevant themes: Victims that may need assistance or have already been helped. Hazards that must be avoided or mitigated. Damage that have been rapidly assessed for damage, when time and the mission permits. Other mission critical intelligence that vary based on mission type. The secondary goal of this approach is to provide essential elements of information to those not currently on-scene of the disaster. Using the themes above, information and maps can be shared based on “need to know”. If you are a technology specialist looking to deploy this application on your own see the Deployment Kit.

    Description

Field data collection was conducted for the U.S. Army Engineer District, Pacific Ocean, Honolulu (POH), during 23-29 August 2007, in the vicinity of the Natatorium, a World War I memorial in Kapiolani Park, Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii. Three bottom mounted instruments were deployed to measure waves and currents. A Nortek AWAC (1 MHz) acoustic current profiler was placed seaward of the reef, centered off the Natatorium, in about 5m depth. An RD Instruments ADCP (1.2 MHz) current profiler was mounted on the channel bottom near the entrance, in about 3m depth. The third unit was a Nortek Aquadopp current profiler (2 MHz) was placed in a small hole in the reef, about 35m seaward of the Natatorium pool outer wall in a nominal depth of 1.5m. The first two gauges recorded directional waves and current profiles, the Aquadopp only recorded current profiles. Four inexpensive current drogues (drifters) were designed and built at the CHL Field Research Facility (FRF) that used GPS tracking and radio telemetry for positioning.

The Division of Insects’ holdings of worldwide Arthropoda (excluding Crustacea) rank fifth in overall size among North American collections and are of worldwide importance for many groups. The collection presently includes roughly 4.1 million pinned insects plus 8.3 million specimens or lots in alcohol or on microscope slides. In addition, there are over 17,000 partly-sorted “bulk samples” from traps or leaf-litter extractions. The collection receives heavy use by US and international research visitors and borrowers as well as extensive educational use.

    Description

The collection serves as a major research resource for the national and international scientific communities and contains unique material of special historical and ecological significance. The collection database is accessible online on this website and through HerpNET. During the 1970’s, it was recognized as one of the five largest and most representative collections of amphibians and reptiles in the United States (Wake et al. 1975). Currently it ranks among the top six herpetological collections in the United States and one of the twenty largest in the World. Collection use has been growing steadily. Loan requests, visits by researchers, and information requests are at high levels. Zoologists, paleontologists, wildlife disease researchers and other disciplines utilize the collections. Regular collection users include professional scientists, agency personnel and students (undergraduate and graduate).
