The Access Network Map of England
is a national composite dataset of Access layers, showing analysis of extent of
Access provision for each Lower Super Output Area (LSOA), as a percentage or
area coverage of access in England. The ‘Access Network Map’ was developed by
Natural England to inform its work to improve opportunities for people to enjoy
the natural environment. This map shows, across England, the
relative abundance of accessible land in relation to where people
live. Due to issues explained below, the map does not, and cannot, provide
a definitive statement of where intervention is necessary. Rather,
it should be used to identify areas of interest which require further
exploration. Natural England believes that places where
people can enjoy the natural environment should be improved and created where
they are most wanted. Access Network Maps help support this work by
providing means to assess the amount of accessible land available in relation
to where people live. They combine all the available good quality data on
access provision into a single dataset and relate this to population.
This provides a common foundation for regional and national teams to use when
targeting resources to improve public access to greenspace, or projects that
rely on this resource. The Access Network Maps are compiled from the
datasets available to Natural England which contain robust, nationally
consistent data on land and routes that are normally available to the public

used, it is not possible to display clearly on a single map the precise
boundary of accessible land for all areas. We therefore selected a
unit which would be clearly visible at a variety of scales and calculated the
total area (in hectares) of accessible land in each. The units we
selected are ‘Lower Super Output Areas’ (LSOAs), which represent where
approximately 1,500 people live based on postcode. To calculate the
total area of accessible land for each we gave the linear routes a notional
width of 3 metres so they could be measured in hectares. We then
combined together all the datasets and calculated the total hectares of

The dataset comprises scanned images of maps and aerial photographs of the Falkland Islands. The original maps are printers films and final paper printed originals of Falkland Islands OS maps, compiled for the Falkland Islands Government and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office by the Overseas Directorate of the Ordnance Survey. The Falkland Islands Government retains copyright interest in the maps. There are no access or usage constraints for BGS staff for BGS purposes. The field slips of geological maps were compiled by BGS under contract to the Falkland Islands Government. Copyright remains with the Falkland Islands Government , but there are no access or usage constraints for BGS staff for BGS purposes. Access to both datasets are restricted to BGS staff.

This is the land parcels (polygon) dataset for the UKCEH Land Cover Map of 2017 (LCM2017) representing Northern Ireland. It describes Northern Ireland's land cover in 2017 using UKCEH Land Cover Classes, which are based on UK Biodiversity Action Plan broad habitats. This dataset was derived from the corresponding LCM2017 20m classified pixels dataset. All further LCM2017 datasets for Northern Ireland are derived from this land parcel product. A range of land parcel attributes are provided. These include the dominant UKCEH Land Cover Class given as an integer value, and a range of per-parcel pixel statistics to help to assess classification confidence and accuracy; for a full explanation please refer to the dataset documentation. LCM2017 represents a suite of geospatial land cover datasets (raster and polygon) describing the UK land surface in 2017. These were produced at the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology by classifying satellite images from 2017. LCM2017 was simultaneously released with LCM2018 and LCM2019. These are the latest in a series of UKCEH land cover maps, which began with the 1990 Land Cover Map of Great Britain (now usually referred to as LCM1990) followed by UK-wide land cover maps LCM2000, LCM2007 and LCM2015. There are approximately 2.6 million agricultural land parcels in England, and the Parcel Points (England) point dataset represents the approximate centres, or centroids of these parcels. The number of agricultural parcels varies over time as fields are split or joined consequently creating new fields with new centroids. Some parcels may be sold for development and are no longer available for agricultural use, occasionally land that was previously developed may return to agriculture, e.g. disused airfields.
Parcel Points is a simple point dataset that uses the centres of agricultural parcels attributed only with the parcel reference ID. Parcel points are categorised according to county and are available as England-wide coverage too.
Users can use the data as supplied or attach their own attributes. When viewed overlying other publicly available data, e.g. satellite imagery (Google earth), OS open data, OpenStreetMap, etc. that may feature agricultural land the points provide a useful reference point to identify the approximate centre of agricultural parcels.
Parcel Points uses the Open Government Licence v3.0 as used by other publicly accessible data on the Defra Data Services Platform and will be updated every 6 months.
Coverage will be for agricultural land parcels in England only.
The Unpublished Digital Surficial Geologic-GIS Map of Gateway National Recreation Area and Vicinity, New Jersey and New York is composed of GIS data layers and GIS tables in a 10.1 file geodatabase (gwsf_geology.gdb), a 10.1 ArcMap (.MXD) map document (gwsf_geology.mxd), individual 10.1 layer (.LYR) files for each GIS data layer, an ancillary map information (.PDF) document (gate_geology.pdf) which contains source map unit descriptions, as well as other source map text, figures and tables, metadata in FGDC text (.TXT) and FAQ (.HTML) formats, and a GIS readme file (gwsf_gis_readme.pdf). Please read the gwsf_gis_readme.pdf for information pertaining to the proper extraction of the file geodatabase and other map files. To request GIS data in ESRI 10.1 shapefile format contact Stephanie O’Meara (stephanie.omeara@colostate.edu; see contact information below). The data is also available as a 2.2 KMZ/KML file for use in Google Earth, however, this format version of the map is limited in data layers presented and in access to GRI ancillary table information. Users are encouraged to only use the Google Earth data for basic visualization, and to use the GIS data for any type of data analysis or investigation. The data were completed as a component of the Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) program, a National Park Service (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Division funded program that is administered by the NPS Geologic Resources Division (GRD). Source geologic maps and data used to complete this GRI digital dataset were provided by the following: New Jersey Geological Survey and New York State Museum. Detailed information concerning the sources used and their contribution the GRI product are listed in the Source Citation section(s) of this metadata record (gwsf_metadata_faq.html; available at http://nrdata.nps.gov/geology/gri_data/gis/gate/gwsf_metadata_faq.html). Users of this data are cautioned about the locational accuracy of features within this dataset. Based on the source map scale of 1:100,000 and United States National Map Accuracy Standards features are within (horizontally) 127 meters or 416.7 feet of their actual location as presented by this dataset. Users of this data should thus not assume the location of features is exactly where they are portrayed in Google Earth, ArcGIS or other software used to display this dataset. All GIS and ancillary tables were produced as per the NPS GRI Geology-GIS Geodatabase Data Model v. 2.3. (available at: http://science.nature.nps.gov/im/inventory/geology/GeologyGISDataModel.cfm). The GIS data projection is NAD83, UTM Zone 18N, however, for the KML/KMZ format the data is projected upon export to WGS84 Geographic, the native coordinate system used by Google Earth. The data is within the area of interest of Gateway National Recreation Area.
An index to over 600 ground geophysical surveys carried out in the UK for a variety of projects. A large number of these surveys were done in conjunction with the DTI Mineral Reconnaissance Programme in the 1970's and 80's, and many others were carried out at the request of BGS field mapping groups. Information held describes the survey objective, location of measurements, geophysical methods and equipment used, reports and publications, storage locations of data and results (for analogue and digital data), dates and personnel. There are two datasets; one shows the outline of the survey areas, and the other shows the actual survey lines within each area.

For much of the Geological Survey's existence, the County Series of maps were the standard large-scale maps on which geological mapping was undertaken. These maps are based on the Ordnance Survey County (or six-inch to the mile) series of maps. These maps were cut up to be used in the field to record geological observations, and on return to the office, the geology was transferred to a complete County Series map, which after approval was known as a 'standard' (England / Wales) or 'clean copy' (Scotland). This dataset contains the 'standard' or 'clean copy' County Series maps held by BGS. Geological maps represent a geologist's compiled interpretation of the geology of an area. A geologist will consider the data available at the time, including measurements and observations collected during field campaigns, as well as their knowledge of geological processes and the geological context to create a model of the geology of an area. This model is then fitted to a topographic basemap and drawn up at the appropriate scale, with generalization if necessary, to create a geological map, which is a representation of the geological model. Explanatory notes and vertical and horizontal cross sections may be published with the map. Geological maps may be created to show various aspects of the geology, or themes. The most common map themes held by BGS are solid (later referred to as bedrock) and drift (later referred to as superficial). These maps are hard-copy paper records stored in the National Geoscience Data Centre (NGDC) and are delivered as digital scans through the BGS website.

This evaluation of the RoxAnn system as a tool for mapping the distribution of kelp biotopes has been undertaken as part of the BioMar Project which is funded by the European Community through the LIFE Programme. The central aim of the present project was to evaluate of the RoxAnn system as a tool for mapping the distribution of kelp on the north west coast of the Isle of Lewis. If the RoxAnn system could map the distribution of kelp biotopes, it could prove to be a valuable tool for gathering resource data to assist management decisions - for instance assessing kelp harvesting proposals. The BioMar team carried out the field work for this study from August 27 to September 2, 1994. Five areas were studied on the NW coast of Lewis, Western Isles: four areas within East Loch Roag and the open coast from East Loch Roag to Bragar. Biological data were collected for 59 remote video samples, and the change in kelp density with depth measured at ten sites using SCUBA diving.

The RPA CROME GOP is a simple point dataset, that marks the location of observations made by surveyors in a sample of parcels and records the land cover according to set criteria. It has been maintained by RPA Geospatial Services since 2015.
RPA currently collects ground observation data from the following source:
• Agricultural parcels eligible for the Control with Remote Sensing (CwRS) element of the Basic Payment Scheme (BPS), and that fall within zones selected for monitoring claims. The locations and size of these zones vary from year to year.
The field surveys for are carried out on RPA’s behalf by Cyient Europe Ltd.
They have been acquired for both Control with Remote Sensing (CwRS) and for Commons Eligibility Mapping programmes that have been completed during the year.
The points are attributed with:
• Parcel reference ID (as with RPA Parcel Points)
• Crop or land cover observed to be / have been growing at that location
• Date of observation
• Whether observations were made by RPA or an external surveyor
• Any additional comments
Two versions will be made available: one with photos of the land cover attached (RPA_CROME_GOP_2023_FULL) and the other with them removed (RPA_CROME_GOP_2023_Basic).
The data for the CwRS programme is used in the production of the Crop Map of England (CROME) which is publicly available and has historically been used as part of CwRS for the Basic Payment Scheme (BPS).
It is intended that releasing the ground observations would benefit research in automation, machine learning, and our national food production.
RPA’s GOP use the Open Government Licence v3.0 as used by other publicly accessible data on the Defra Data Services Platform and will be updated approximately every year, subject to the continuation of current policies.
