This dataset represents basic demographic information about the structural firefighting agencies in Oregon. Included in this dataset are the square mileage within the jurisdictional boundaries of fire agencies, protected population, and building count. Also included are the number of career and volunteer firefighters, firefighter casualties, and summary incident information.
This statistic shows total number of calls responded by fire departments of the United States in 2018. In 2018, U.S. fire departments responded to 2,889,000 false alarms. This was an increase of 13% from the previous year.
In 2023, there were 89 fatalities among firefighters while on duty in the United States, down from 97 in the previous year. The number of on duty firefighter deaths was highest in 2001, at 443, due to the events of 9/11.
On 1 April 2025 responsibility for fire and rescue transferred from the Home Office to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
This information covers fires, false alarms and other incidents attended by fire crews, and the statistics include the numbers of incidents, fires, fatalities and casualties as well as information on response times to fires. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) also collect information on the workforce, fire prevention work, health and safety and firefighter pensions. All data tables on fire statistics are below.
MHCLG has responsibility for fire services in England. The vast majority of data tables produced by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government are for England but some (0101, 0103, 0201, 0501, 1401) tables are for Great Britain split by nation. In the past the Department for Communities and Local Government (who previously had responsibility for fire services in England) produced data tables for Great Britain and at times the UK. Up-to-date anthropometric information (body dimensions) of the U.S. firefighter population is needed for updating ergonomic and safety specifications for fire apparatus and firefighter protective equipment. Seventy-one measurements relevant to the design of seats, seat belts, cabs, turnout gear, gloves, and head-and-face gear are presented in this webpage. Forty of the 71 measurements were collected with the participants in fitted shorts in both standing and seated postures. Twenty-one of the 71 measurements were collected while the participants were wearing their personal turnout gear, including personal selection of tools stored in their pockets, in both standing and seated postures. Ten of the 71 measurements were hand- and head/face-related dimensions extracted from hand and head/face scans. The data obtained in this study provide the first available U.S. national firefighter anthropometric information which will benefit the design of future fire apparatus and protective equipment to better protect firefi

The publications listed here are both current and historical statistical publications. The two main series are the annual ‘Fire statistics Great Britain’ (formerly ‘Fire statistics UK’) and the ‘Fire statistics monitor’ which contain headline statistics on numbers of incidents and casualties on a quarterly basis.
Other publications accessible from these pages include the ‘Cost of fire’ series, Fires in the home (data from the fire module of the English Housing Survey and its predecessors) and non-financial annual return data from fire and rescue services in ‘Operational statistics’.
We are keen to hear from current and potential users of fire and rescue statistics.
We want you to tell us:
The fire and rescue statistics team will collate all responses and feed these into its Fire Statistics Annual statistics publication.
