The purpose of the online mapping tool is to provide coastal managers, planners, and stakeholders a preliminary look at exposures to coastal flooding hazards. The Mapper is a screening-level tool that uses nationally consistent data sets and analyses. Data and maps provided can be used at several scales to help communities initiate resilience planning efforts. Currently the extent of the Coastal Flood Exposure Mapper covers U.S. coastal areas along the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean. This cached tiled map service, hosted at MassGIS' ArcGIS Online site, represents FEMA National Flood Hazard Layer (NFHL) data currently available for Massachusetts. At scales 1:80,000 and closer, flood zone abbreviation labels appear (from the FLD_ZONE field). The National Flood Hazard Layer (NFHL) dataset represents the current effective flood risk data for those parts of the country where maps have been modernized by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). It is a compilation of effective Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) databases and any Letters of Map Revision (LOMR) that have been issued against those databases since their publication date. NOAA Coastal Flood Exposure MapperThis online visualization tool supports communities that are assessing their coastal hazard risks and vulnerabilities. The tool creates a collection of user-defined maps that show the people, places, and natural resources exposed to coastal flooding. The maps can be saved, downloaded, or shared to communicate flood exposure and potential impacts. In addition, the tool provides guidance for using these maps to engage community members and stakeholders.
These data are the lidar points collected for FEMA Risk Mapping, Assessment, and Planning (Risk MAP) for the Nashua River Watershed. This area falls in portions of Hillsborough County in New Hampshire and portions of Middlesex and Worcester counties in Massachusetts. Using a Leica ALS60 LiDAR system, a total of 35 flight lines of high density (Nominal Pulse Spacing of 2.0 m) were collected over the Nashua area which encompasses 530.3 square miles. A total of 3 missions were flown on May 6, 2011 and May 7, 2011. One airborne global positioning system (GPS) base station was used to support the LiDAR data acquisition: FIT B. The data were received by the NOAA Office for Coastal Management from NH GRANIT. For data storage and Digital Coast provisioning purposes the data were: 1. Converted from UTM Zone 19, meters, NAD83 to geographic coordinates. 2. Converted from NAVD88 (Geoid09), meters to ellipsoid heights, using Geoid09 3. Converted overlap points that were classified as 11 to class 12 (Overlap). The Coastal Flood Resilience Zoning Overlay District goes beyond the areas identified in FEMA flood maps, applying to areas of the City that could be inundated during a major coastal storm event, known as a 1 percent chance flood event with 40-inches of sea level rise. The zoning overlay promotes resilient planning and design, provides consistent standards for the review of projects, and maximizes the benefits of investments in coastal resilience.

A technical report prepared for the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension with funding through the Massachusetts Seaport Economic Council, describing storm tide pathways, mapping methods and results for Cape Cod Bay.The mapping of storm tide pathways provides town staff and the public with contemporary information on the location of the potential pathways that can, depending on the magnitude of a storm, convey coastal flood waters inland enabling communities to respond to real time events and address future inundation. Storm tide pathways describe spatially how coastal waters will flow inland during a flooding event associated with storm surge, extreme high tides, or sea level rise.
Overlay zoning districts are in addition to standard town zoning. The districts' boundaries and use limitations &/or development constraints are described in the town's zoning bylaw. The MVC generated these digital spatial boundaries based on the best GIS data available at the time of processing.
Some overlay zoning districts are also Districts of Critical Planning Concern. These are zoning districts established by the Martha's Vineyard Commission and adopted by the town at town meeting.
