    Description

Percent of tests positive for a pathogen is one of the surveillance metrics used to monitor respiratory pathogen transmission over time. The percent of tests positive is calculated by dividing the number of positive tests by the total number of tests administered, then multiplying by 100 [(# of positive tests/total tests) x 100]. These data include percent of tests positive values for the detection of severe acute respiratory virus coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus that causes COVID-19 and Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) reported to the National Respiratory and Enteric Virus Surveillance System (NREVSS), a sentinel network of laboratories located through the US, includes clinical, public health and commercial laboratories; additional information available at: https://www.cdc.gov/surveillance/nrevss/index.html. Influenza results include clinical laboratory test results from NREVSS and U.S. World Health Organization collaborating laboratories; more details about influenza virologic surveillance are available here: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/overview.html.

Data represent calculations based on laboratory tests performed, not individual people tested. RSV and COVID-19 are limited to nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs), also listed as polymerase chain reaction tests (PCR). Participating laboratories report weekly to CDC the total number of RSV tests performed that week and the number of those tests that were positive. The RSV trend graphs display the national average of the weekly % test positivity for the current, previous, and following weeks in accordance with the recommendations for assessing RSV trends by percent (https://academic.oup.com/jid/article/216/3/345/3860464).

All data are provisional and subject to change.

    Description

Note: On April 30, 2024, the Federal mandate for COVID-19 and influenza associated hospitalization data to be reported to CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) expired. Hospitalization data beyond April 30, 2024, will not be updated on the Open Data Portal. Hospitalization and ICU admission data collected from summer 2020 to May 10, 2023, are sourced from the California Hospital Association (CHA) Survey. Data collected on or after May 11, 2023, are sourced from CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN).

Data is from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Respiratory Virus State Dashboard at https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/Respiratory-Viruses/RespiratoryDashboard.aspx.

Data are updated each Friday around 2 pm.

For COVID-19 death data: As of January 1, 2023, data was sourced from the California Department of Public Health, California Comprehensive Death File (Dynamic), 2023–Present. Prior to January 1, 2023, death data was sourced from the COVID-19 case registry. The change in data source occurred in July 2023 and was applied retroactively to all 2023 data to provide a consistent source of death data for the year of 2023. Influenza death data was sourced from the California Department of Public Health, California Comprehensive Death File (Dynamic), 2020–Present.

COVID-19 testing data represent data received by CDPH through electronic laboratory reporting of test results for COVID-19 among residents of California. Testing date is the date the test was administered, and tests have a 1-day lag (except for the Los Angeles County, which has an additional 7-day lag). Influenza testing data represent data received by CDPH from clinical sentinel laboratories in California. These laboratories report the aggregate number of laboratory-confirmed influenza virus detections and total tests performed on a weekly basis. These data do not represent all influenza testing occurring in California and are available only at the state level.

    Description

Annual summary of mandatory reportable infectious diseases provided by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). The dataset includes counts of reportable infectious diseases confirmed for residents of the designated geographic area (e.g. Ramsey County, Minnesota, or Metro Region).

The Metro Region includes the following counties: Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott and Washington

Data notes: 1. Beginning in 2010, typhoid fever cases are included in the Salmonellosis category 2. Human Ehrlichiosis E. muris-like was renamed to E. muriseauclairensis in 2018. Reports prior to 2018 use E. muris-like 3. Due to staff being redeployed to the COVID response, no vectorborne disease data is available and only some zoonotic disease data is available for 2020. This includes: Anaplasmosis-Ehrlichiosis, undetermined, Babesiosis, Chikungunya, Dengue, Human Anaplasmosis, Human Ehrlichiosis (2 species), Jamestown Canyon, La Crosse, Lyme Disease, Malaria, Novel Influenza A, Powassan, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Toxoplasmosis, West Nile Virus, Zika Virus 4. Hospitalized influenza cases reported by flu season. For example, 2017 count is from the 2016-17 flu season.

    Description

Respiratory illness activity is monitored using the acute respiratory illness (ARI) metric. ARI captures a broad range of diagnoses from emergency department visits for respiratory illnesses, from the common cold to severe infections like influenza, RSV and COVID-19. It captures illnesses that may not present with fever, offering a more complete picture than the previous influenza-like illness (ILI) metric.
