The global food grade folic acid API market, valued at $66 million in 2025, is projected to experience robust growth, driven by a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 5.1% from 2025 to 2033. This expansion is fueled by several key factors. The increasing prevalence of folic acid fortification in foods to combat neural tube defects in newborns is a significant driver. Growing consumer awareness of the importance of folic acid for overall health and well-being, particularly among pregnant women and individuals with specific dietary needs, further boosts demand. The rising popularity of health-conscious diets and functional foods, enriched with essential vitamins and nutrients including folic acid, also contributes to market growth. The market segmentation reveals strong demand across various applications, including healthy foods, food additives, and others, with dietary folic acid and 5-methyltetrahydrofolate types holding significant market share due to their superior bioavailability and efficacy compared to synthetic folic acid. Geographical analysis indicates that North America and Europe currently represent substantial market shares due to established regulatory frameworks and strong consumer preference for fortified foods. However, Asia Pacific is poised for significant growth in the coming years, driven by rising disposable incomes, increasing health awareness, and expanding food processing industries. Competition within the market is relatively concentrated, with major players such as DSM and several prominent Chinese pharmaceutical companies dominating the supply chain. The projected CAGR of 5.1% indicates a steady increase in market value over the forecast period. The market's future growth will hinge on factors such as evolving dietary guidelines, advancements in folic acid production technologies, and the introduction of innovative food products fortified with folic acid. While regulatory hurdles and potential price fluctuations in raw materials could pose challenges, the overall positive health perception of folic acid and its widespread use are expected to sustain the market's upward trajectory. Ongoing research into the optimal forms and dosage of folic acid will also influence market segmentation and product development. The companies mentioned are likely to continue to play a major role, through innovation and expansion, ensuring a competitive landscape shaping future growth.

The global Omega-3 API market is experiencing robust growth, projected to reach $1395.3 million in 2025 and maintain a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 5.8% from 2025 to 2033. This expansion is fueled by several key drivers. The rising prevalence of chronic diseases like cardiovascular disease and inflammatory conditions is boosting demand for Omega-3 fatty acids, a key component in various health supplements and functional foods. Growing consumer awareness of the health benefits of Omega-3s, coupled with increased adoption of preventive healthcare measures, further contributes to market growth. The increasing incorporation of Omega-3 APIs into fortified food and beverages, infant formula, and pet foods broadens the market's application scope. Innovation in extraction methods, focusing on sustainability and higher yield, also contributes to market expansion. However, challenges remain, including price volatility of raw materials and potential supply chain disruptions impacting the market's overall trajectory. The market is segmented by type (microalgal-derived and non-microalgal-derived) and application (dietary supplements, fortified food and beverages, infant formula, pharmaceuticals, pet foods, and others), each exhibiting unique growth trajectories influenced by specific consumer needs and regulatory landscapes. The competitive landscape is characterized by a mix of established players and emerging companies, with companies like DSM, BASF, and EPAX leading the market. Geographical distribution reflects varying levels of awareness and demand for Omega-3 APIs. North America, driven by strong consumer demand for health and wellness products, currently holds a significant market share. However, rapidly growing economies in Asia-Pacific, particularly in countries like China and India, present substantial opportunities for future growth as consumer awareness increases and disposable incomes rise. Europe continues to represent a stable and significant market, while the Middle East and Africa are poised for modest growth in the coming years, contingent upon economic development and rising healthcare expenditure. These regional disparities reflect diverse cultural factors, regulatory frameworks, and healthcare infrastructure, all impacting market penetration rates and growth potential. Future market performance will depend upon continued innovation, consumer preference trends, and the overall health and wellness industry's continued development.

The Agricultural Price Index (API) is a monthly publication that measures the price changes in agricultural outputs and inputs for the UK. The output series reflects the price farmers receive for their products (referred to as the farm-gate price). Information is collected for all major crops (for example wheat and potatoes) and on livestock and livestock products (for example sheep, milk and eggs). The input series reflects the price farmers pay for goods and services. This is split into two groups: goods and services currently consumed; and goods and services contributing to investment. Goods and services currently consumed refer to items that are used up in the production process, for example fertiliser, or seed. Goods and services contributing to investment relate to items that are required but not consumed in the production process, such as tractors or buildings.
A price index is a way of measuring relative price changes compared to a reference point or base year which is given a value of 100. The year used as the base year needs to be updated over time to reflect changing market trends. The latest data are presented with a base year of 2020 = 100. To maintain continuity with the current API time series, the UK continues to use standardised methodology adopted across the EU. Details of this internationally recognised methodology are described in the https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web/products-manuals-and-guidelines/-/ks-bh-02-003" class="govuk-link">Handbook for EU agricultural price statistics.
Please note: The historical time series with base years 2000 = 100, 2005 = 100, 2010 = 100 and 2015 = 100 are not updated monthly and presented for archive purposes only. Each file gives the date the series was last updated.
For those commodities where farm-gate prices are currently unavailable we use the best proxy data that are available (for example wholesale prices). Similarly, calculations are based on UK prices where possible but sometimes we cannot obtain these. In such cases prices for Great Britain, England and Wales or England are used instead.
Next update: see the statistics release calendar.
