    Description

A literature search was conducted in approximately 24 physiotherapy databases, 10 sports sciences and rehabilitation databases and 5 neuroscience databases including SPORTDiscus, COCHRANE, PEDro, SCOPUS, PubMed, and MEDLINE. Keywords like ‘anterior cruci* ligament ’, ‘neurocogni’ training’ or ‘cogniti* intervention’, ‘football’ or ‘soccer’, and ‘injury prevent*’ were utilised. In an attempt to retrieve most literature on the topic, each neurocognitive components listed in DSM-V criteria were used as search words. Additionally, the types of neurocognitive approaches applied to other sports were used as search terms replacing ‘neurocognitive’ like Visuomotor Reaction Time, Self-Talk, Attention changing, Stress Management, Mindfulness, and Imagery, not to miss any literature. Grey literature was searched for on Google Scholar and Nottingham University (NU Search) using the same search terms. This search was conducted to look for all the relevant evidence published or unpublished fr...

    Description

We analyze the effects of top tax rates on international migration of football players in 14 European countries since 1985. Both country case studies and multinomial regressions show evidence of strong mobility responses to tax rates, with an elasticity of the number of foreign (domestic) players to the net-of-tax rate around one (around 0.15). We also find evidence of sorting effects (low taxes attract highability players who displace low-ability players) and displacement effects (low taxes on foreigners displace domestic players). Those results can be rationalized in a simple model of migration and taxation with rigid labor demand.

    Description

Abstract: The home advantage in various sports has been well documented. So far, we lack knowledge whether playing in neutral venues indeed removes many, if not all, theoretically assumed advantages of playing at home. Analysing over 3,500 Gaelic football and hurling matches – field games with the highest participation rates in Ireland – between 2009 and 2018, we test the potential moderating influence of neutral venues. In hurling and Gaelic football, a considerable share of matches in played at neutral venues. We test the influence of neutral venues based on descriptive statistics, and multilevel logistic and multinomial regressions controlling for team strength, the importance of the match, the year, and the sport. With predicted probabilities ranging between 0.8 and 0.9, the favourite team is very likely to win home matches. The predicted probability drops below 0.6 for away matches. At neutral venues, the favourite team has a predicted probability of winning of 0.7. A Coarsened Exact Matching (CEM) approach also reveals very substantive and significant effects for the ‘treatment’ of neutral venues. Overall, neutral venues appear to be an under-utilised option for creating fairer and less predictable competition, especially in single-game knock-out matches.
