    Description

This data release has the results of 333 online survey respondents representing 17 federal agencies and 7 Executive Branch departments from March 14 through April 14, 2022 regarding The Federal Priority Streamgage (FPS) network of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The FPS network was created in 1999 as the National Streamflow Information Program and receives congressionally appropriated funding to support the operation of a federally funded “backbone” network of streamflow gages across the United States that are designated to meet the “federal needs” or priorities of the country. Anticipating the evolution of federal stakeholder water-data needs, and advances in monitoring and communication technologies, the USGS launched a re-evaluation of the fundamental priorities for the FPS network in October 2020. In March 2022, the FPS Re-Prioritization Project used an online survey to solicit feedback from stakeholders who benefit from the FPS network so it can better serve their needs in the next decade.

    Description

Establishing the biological basis of cognition and its disorders will require high precision spatiotemporal measurements of neural activity. Recently developed genetically encoded voltage indicators (GEVIs) report both spiking and subthreshold activity of identified neurons. However, maximally capitalising on the potential of GEVIs will require imaging at millisecond time scales, which remains challenging with standard camera systems. Here we report application of single photon avalanche diode (SPAD) sensors to imaging neural activity at kilohertz frame rates. SPADs are electronic devices that when activated by a single photon cause an avalanche of electrons and a large electric current. We use an array of SPAD sensors to image individual neurons expressing the GEVI Voltron-JF525-HTL. We show that subthreshold and spiking activity can be resolved with shot noise limited signals at frame rates of up to 10 kHz. SPAD imaging was able to reveal millisecond scale synchronisation of neural activity in an ex-vivo seizure model. SPAD sensors may have widespread applications for investigation of millisecond timescale neural dynamics. Note. This worked was funded by: 1. Wellcome Trust (ISSF3 award IS3-R2.36 to IG and MFN, and Investigator Award 200855/Z/16/Z to MFN); 2. BBSRC EastBio doctoral training programme; 3. EPSRC (EP/S001638/1).

    Description

The dataset was created for video quality assessment problem. It was formed with 36 clips from Vimeo, which were selected from 18,000+ open-source clips with high bitrate (license CCBY or CC0).

The clips include videos recorded by both professionals and amateurs. Almost half of the videos contain scene changes and high dynamism. Moreover, the synthetic to natural lightning ratio is approximately 1 to 3.

Content type: nature, sport, humans close up, gameplays, music videos, water stream or steam, CGI Effects and distortions: shaking, slow-motion, grain/noisy, too dark/bright regions, macro shooting, captions (text), extraneous objects on the camera lens or just close to it Resolution: 1920x1080 as the most popular modern video resolution (more in the future) Format: yuv420p FPS: 24, 25, 30, 39, 50, 60 Videos duration: mainly 10 seconds

Such content diversity helps simulate near-realistic conditions. The choice of videos collected for the benchmark dataset employed clustering in terms of space-time complexity to obtain a representative distribution.

For compression we used 40 codecs of 10 compression standards (H.264, AV1, H.265, VVC, etc.). Each video was compressed with 3 target bitrates: 1,000 Kbps, 2,000 Kbps, and 4,000 Kbps, and different real-life encoding modes: constant quality (CRF) and variable bitrate (VBR). The choice of bitrate range simplifies the subjective comparison procedure since the video quality is more difficult to distinguish visually at higher bitrates.

The subjective assessment involved pairwise comparisons using crowdsourcing service Subjectify.us. To increase the relevance of the results, each pair of videos received at least 10 responses from participants. In total, 766362 valid answers were collected from more than 10800 unique participants.

    Description

ObjectiveTo evaluate the impact of personalized prescribing portraits on antibiotic prescribing for treating uncomplicated acute cystitis (UAC) by Family Physicians (FPs).DesignCluster randomized control trial.SettingThe intervention was conducted in the primary care setting in the province of BC between December 2010 and February 2012.ParticipantsWe randomized 4 833 FPs by geographic location into an Early intervention arm (n = 2 417) and a Delayed control arm (n = 2 416).InterventionThe Education for Quality Improvement in Patient Care (EQIP) program mailed to each FP in BC, a ‘portrait’ of their individual prescribing of antibiotics to women with UAC, plus therapeutic recommendations and a chart of trends in antibiotic resistance.Main outcome measuresAntibiotic prescribing preference to treat UAC.ResultsImplementing exclusion criteria before and after a data system change in the Ministry of Health caused the arms to be unequal in size–intervention arm (1 026 FPs, 17 637 UAC cases); control arm (1 352 FPs, 25 566 UAC cases)–but they were well balanced by age, sex and prior rates of prescribing antibiotics for UAC. In the early intervention group probability of prescribing nitrofurantoin increased from 28% in 2010 to 38% in 2011, a difference of 9.9% (95% confidence interval [CI], 9.1% to 10.7. Ciprofloxacin decreased by 6.2% (95% CI: 5.6% to 6.9%) and TMP-SMX by 3.7% (95% CI: 3.1% to 4.2%). Among 295 FPs who completed reflective surveys, 52% said they were surprized by the E. coli resistance statistics and 57% said they planned to change their treatment of UAC.ConclusionThe EQIP intervention demonstrated that feedback of personal data to FPs on their prescribing, plus population data on antibiotic resistance, with a simple therapeutic recommendation, can significantly improve prescribing of antibiotics.Trial registration:ISRCTN 16938907.

    Description

    Scenario

The TA2 database consists of around 1 hour 20 minutes of audio and video recordings in two separate rooms that have been connected with each other via a video-conferencing system. There are from 2 to 4 participants in each room at the same time, sitting around a table, chatting, and playing online games. The scenario is rather unconstrained, i.e. the people can move and talk freely. Two different games have been played across the rooms: Battleships and Pictionary.

    Recordings

The video has been recorded from a central camera facing the participants. The video of one room has a higher resolution, i.e. 1920x1080 pixels @ 25 fps, and the video of the other room has 720x576 pixels @ 25 fps. The audio has been recorded from a circular microphone array on the table in the middle of the room with 4, respectively 8, microphones at 48 kHz, 16bit. Audio and Video has been (manually) synchronised (per room). Note that the video-conferencing hardware, i.e. cameras and microphones, is different from the recording hardware.

    Annotation

Four types of annotation are available (in XML format) for all of the recorded data:

    head positions in the video

    voice activity (speech/non-speech)

spoken word transcription (+ laughter and other noise)

Direction Of Arrival (DOA) of sound

All events have been coherently annotated with the respective person IDs.

    Description

Peregrine proposes the development of 'Liquid Interface Diffusion' (LID) bonding to be the joining method to provide a homogeneous connection between the heat pipes and cores of Fission Power Systems (FPS). This innovation will create a high strength, high temperature and high integrity (homogeneous) joint between the Hanes 230 alloy comprising the NaK heat pipe wall and U-8Mo core. This homogeneous joint will allow for high efficiency heat transfer from the core to NaK heat pipes with no voids or separations that can act as thermal shunts that will become hot spots/cold spots at the heat exchanging surface that could lead to dead spots, or potential sites for thermal runaway. The creation of a high efficiency joint allows both the core and the heat pipe to both operate at their optimum performance supplying a maximum and balanced thermal load to the hot side of the sterling engines making up the operating component generating electricity within the Fission Power System.
