The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Office Locations dataset was created on October 13, 2022 from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). These locations show FRA office locations, based on railroad company and Safety Management Teams (SMTs). The Safety Management Teams serve as the Office of Railroad Safety's main liaison with the senior leadership of the Nation's railroads. Each of the nine Safety Management Teams is assigned to either a Class I railroad or a group of railroads and provides safety oversight of the respective railroad system(s). The Safety Management Teams represent FRA with the railroads, and they communicate and coordinate with FRA's Staff Directors, Accident Analysis Branch, Audit Management Program, and other Safety Management Teams. The FRA Milepost is a spatial file that originates of multiple sources and contains point locations of mileposts along the FRA's rail network. The mileposts was developed from varies sources and should only be used as a reference file. The railroad lines and their mileposts are privately owned and are subjected of changed based on the rail owner. If used for identifying specific locations, please contact the railroad to verify the mileposts numbers and their locations.

This ownership dataset utilizes a methodology that results in a federal ownership extent that matches the Federal Responsibility Areas (FRA) footprint from CAL FIRE's State Responsibility Areas for Fire Protection (SRA) data. FRA lands are snapped to county parcel data, thus federal ownership areas will also be snapped. Since SRA Fees were first implemented in 2011, CAL FIRE has devoted significant resources to improve the quality of SRA data. This includes comparing SRA data to data from other federal, state, and local agencies, an annual comparison to county assessor roll files, and a formal SRA review process that includes input from CAL FIRE Units. The Amtrak Routes dataset is as of January 05, 2024 from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). This dataset is a single line representation of unique routes that are generated from the North American Railroad Network (Amtrak). It contains information on ownership, trackage rights, type, passenger, STRACNET, and geographic reference of the Amtrak system at 1:24,000 or better and the dataset covers all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

The Railroad Bridges dataset was compiled on October 14, 2022 from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). A railroad bridge is defined as “Railroad bridge means any structure with a deck, regardless of length, which supports one or more railroad tracks, or any other undergrade structure with an individual span length of 10 feet or more located at such a depth that it is affected by live loads.” based on the Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR Part 237). The FRA does not have a mandate to inspect railroad bridges: these inspections are required by the owner of the track. The FRA will use this railroad bridge dataset to determine the number of bridges per railroad, state, etc. and will assist in determining priority field activities.

The Millennium Coral Reef Mapping Project provides thematic maps of coral reefs worldwide at geomorphological scale. Maps were created by photo-interpretation of Landsat 7 and Landsat 8 satellite images. Maps are provided as standard Shapefiles usable in GIS software. The geomorphological classification scheme is hierarchical and includes 5 levels. The GIS products include for each polygon a number of attributes. The 5 level geomorphological attributes are provided (numerical codes or text). The Level 1 corresponds to the differentiation between oceanic and continental reefs. Then from Levels 2 to 5, the higher the level, the more detailed the thematic classification is. Other binary attributes specify for each polygon if it belongs to terrestrial area (LAND attribute), and sedimentary or hard-bottom reef areas (REEF attribute). Examples and more details on the attributes are provided in the references cited. The products distributed here were created by IRD, in their last version. Shapefiles for 102 atolls of France (in the Pacific and Indian Oceans) as mapped by the Global coral reef mapping project at geomorphological scale using LANDSAT satellite data (L7 and L8). This dataset was updated April, 2024.This ownership dataset was generated primarily from CPAD data, which already tracks the majority of ownership information in California. CPAD is utilized without any snapping or clipping to FRA/SRA/LRA. CPAD has some important data gaps, so additional data sources are used to supplement the CPAD data. Currently this includes the most currently available data from BIA, DOD, and FWS. Additional sources may be added in subsequent versions. Decision rules were developed to identify priority layers in areas of overlap.Starting in 2022, the ownership dataset was compiled using a new methodology. Previous versions attempted to match federal ownership boundaries to the FRA footprint, and used a manual process for checking and tracking Federal ownership changes within the FRA, with CPAD ownership information only being used for SRA and LRA lands. The manual portion of that process was proving difficult to maintain, and the new method (described below) was developed in order to decrease the manual workload, and increase accountability by using an automated process by which any final ownership designation could be traced back to a specific dataset.The current process for compiling the data sources includes: Clipping input datasets to the California boundary Filtering the FWS data on the Primary Interest field to exclude lands that are managed by but not owned by FWS (ex: Leases, Easements, etc) Supplementing the BIA Pacific Region Surface Trust lands data with the Western Region portion of the LAR dataset which extends into California. Filtering the BIA data on the Trust Status field to exclude areas that represent mineral rights only. An inquiry was sent for clarification on this change, but for ownership23_1 it reflects the data per the DOD input dataset.22_1 : represents an initial version of ownership with a new methodology which was developed under a short timeframe. A comparison with previous versions of ownership highlighted the some data gaps with the current version. Some of these known gaps include several BOR, ACE and Navy lands which were not included in CPAD nor the DOD MIRTA dataset. Network of Texas Railroads pulled from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) North American Rail Network (NARN) Rail Lines publicly available data. The data was clipped to the Texas State Boundary and queried to a records subset based on "current status or condition of rail line" as populated in the "NET" attribute. CAL FIRE has a legal responsibility to provide fire protection on all State Responsibility Area (SRA) lands, which are defined based on land ownership, population density and land use. For example, CAL FIRE does not have responsibility for densely populated areas, incorporated cities, agricultural lands, or lands administered by the federal government. The SRA dataset provides areas of legal responsibility for fire protection, including State Responsibility Areas (SRA), Federal Responsibility Areas (FRA), and Local Responsibility Areas (LRA). SRA designations undergo a thorough 5 year review cycle, as well as annual updates for incorporations/annexations, error fixes, and ownership changes (automatic changes that do not require Board of Forestry approval). This service represents the latest official version, and is updated when new versions are released. As of November 15th, 2024, this represents SRA 25_1. Changes from SRA24_1 include those resulting from acquisitions and disposals of federal lands transmitted through the yearly California Wildfire Coordinating Group (CWCG) Direct Protection Area (DPA) agreement process, from city annexations and de-annexations, from changes in county parcel boundaries, as well as corrections to any data errors discovered during the editing process.
