To download the zip file click the Download button. The NSPL relates both current and terminated postcodes to a range of current statutory geographies via ‘best-fit’ allocation from the 2021 Census Output Areas (national parks and Workplace Zones are exempt from ‘best-fit’ and use ‘exact-fit’ allocations) for England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland has the 2011 Census Output AreasIt supports the production of area based statistics from postcoded data. The NSPL is produced by ONS Geography, who provide geographic support to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and geographic services used by other organisations. The NSPL is issued quarterly. The 1971 Census Microdata Teaching Dataset for Great Britain: 1% Sample: Open Access dataset was created from existing digital records from the 1971 Census. It can be used as a 'taster' file for 1971 Census data and is freely available for anyone to download under an Open Government Licence.

The file was created under a project known as Enhancing and Enriching Historic Census Microdata Samples (EEHCM), which was funded by the Economic and Social Research Council with input from the Office for National Statistics and National Records of Scotland. The project ran from 2012-2014 and was led from the UK Data Archive, University of Essex, in collaboration with the Cathie Marsh Institute for Social Research (CMIST) at the University of Manchester and the Census Offices. In addition to the 1971 data, the team worked on files from the 1961 Census and 1981 Census.

The original 1971 records preceded current data archival standards and were created before microdata sets for secondary use were anticipated. A process of data recovery and quality checking was necessary to maximise their utility for current researchers, though some imperfections remain (see the User Guide for details). Three other 1971 Census datasets have been created:
    • SN 8268 - 1971 Census Microdata Individual File for Great Britain: 5% Sample, which contains information on individuals in larger local authorities;
    • SN 8269 - 1971 Census Microdata Household File for Great Britain: 0.95% Sample, which links household members together to allow individuals to be understood within their household context. SNs 8268 and 8269 are both available to registered UK Data Service users based in the United Kingdom (see Access section for non-UK access restrictions); and
    • SN 8271 - 1971 Census Microdata for Great Britain: 9% Sample: Secure Access, which comprises a larger population sample and so contains sufficient information to constitute personal data, meaning that it is only available to Accredited Researchers, under restrictive Secure Access conditions.

    Main Topics:

Topics covered include demographics, for example age, gender, family, marital status, housing tenure, employment and qualifications, and housing tenure.

    Description

    Abstract

IPUMS-International is an effort to inventory, preserve, harmonize, and disseminate census microdata from around the world. The project has collected the world's largest archive of publicly available census samples. The data are coded and documented consistently across countries and over time to facillitate comparative research. IPUMS-International makes these data available to qualified researchers free of charge through a web dissemination system.

The IPUMS project is a collaboration of the Minnesota Population Center, National Statistical Offices, and international data archives. Major funding is provided by the U.S. National Science Foundation and the Demographic and Behavioral Sciences Branch of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Additional support is provided by the University of Minnesota Office of the Vice President for Research, the Minnesota Population Center, and Sun Microsystems.

    Sampling procedure

MICRODATA SOURCE: Office of Population Censuses and Surveys. The 2001 SARs were sampled from the One Number Census database for the entire UK.

SAMPLE DESIGN: The sampling scheme for the household SAR (Sample of anonymised records) is a stratified simple random sampling, where the strata are EDs (Enumeration districts). Unlike 1991, there is no stratification within EDs. Random sampling is applied within each ED. The sampling scheme for the individual SAR follows the 1991 approach of drawing from the population excluding the household sample. Stratification is again by ED. The Individual SAR sampled both private and communal persons, unlike the household SAR which only sampled only households.

    Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the data for the England, AR population pyramid, which represents the England population distribution across age and gender, using estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. It lists the male and female population for each age group, along with the total population for those age groups. Higher numbers at the bottom of the table suggest population growth, whereas higher numbers at the top indicate declining birth rates. Furthermore, the dataset can be utilized to understand the youth dependency ratio, old-age dependency ratio, total dependency ratio, and potential support ratio.

    Key observations

    • Youth dependency ratio, which is the number of children aged 0-14 per 100 persons aged 15-64, for England, AR, is 36.5.
    • Old-age dependency ratio, which is the number of persons aged 65 or over per 100 persons aged 15-64, for England, AR, is 25.8.
    • Total dependency ratio for England, AR is 62.3.
    • Potential support ratio, which is the number of youth (working age population) per elderly, for England, AR is 3.9.

    Description

Data presented here is an extract of data taken from the Annual School Meal Census in publicly funded schools in Scotland. The data shows the provision of school meals (including free school meals) for each school in the Glasgow local authority area. The dataset forms part of a time series and is available for the years 2003 through to 2014. Full datasets can be downloaded from The Scottish Government. The data is graduated to school level and data includes: the numbers on the school roll; counts of pupils entitled to free school meals; counts of pupils present on the day of the survey, counts of pupils taking a school meal (free or not) on the day of the survey; and counts of pupils taking a free school meal on the day of the survey. In order to protect the identity of pupils a * used in the dataset denotes the number of pupils is 4 or less (zero included) or where such a figure could be worked out. A * * used in the dataset denotes where the difference between the number of pupils on the register and pupils with FME is 4 or less. Some of the datasets also include information on breakfast clubs, the provision of fresh fruit and water and the anonymity of the free school meal application process. The School Meal Census is carried out annually. For individual dataset errata or qualifications users should consult the background data or notes of the individual datasets. We examined the Office of National Statistics Longitudinal Study (LS) (Shelton et al., 2019; Hattersley & Creeser, 1995), a long-term cohort study comprised of people living in England and Wales under selection criteria of one of four annual birthdates (representing a random sample of approximately 1% of the population clustered by dateof birth). All census variables from the 1971 census through to the most recent 2011 census are directly linked to cohort members via unique identifiers, and additional variables are also derived via individual linkage, including administrative data such as births and deaths. We included LS members enumerated at the 2011 census (the most recent census to have taken place) and linked to mortality data to includedeaths in the 12-month period subsequent to the census (i.e.01-Apr-2011 to 31-Mar-2012). Age, sex, and data relating to occupation and educational qualifications for 2001 and 2011 censuses were extracted and used to categorise LS members according to three dimensions of individual-level socio-economic circumstances: occupation, education, and wage.
    Description

These data contain lifetables derived from the ONS Longitudinal study dataset, and according to age, sex and individual socio-economic status measured with education, occupation or wage in England and Wales in 2011. Life table according to age, sex and individual’s education, or occupation or wage for the England & Wales population in 2011 The data contained in these files are aggregated data from the ONS Longitudinal Study (ONS LS). The ONS LS is a long-term census-based multi-cohort study. It uses four annual birthdates as random selection criteria, giving a 1% sample of the England and Wales population (10.1093/ije/dyy243). The initial sample was drawn from the 1971 Census, and study members’ census records have been linked every 10 years up to the 2011 Census. New members enter the study through birth or immigration, and existing members leave through death or emigration. Vital life events information (births, deaths and cancer registrations) are also linked to sample members’ records. SSM - Population Health, doi: 10.1016/j.ssmph.2021.100815

In the UK, people who reside within more income-deprived areas live a shorter period of time after a diagnosis of cancer compared to people living in less income-deprived areas. At least part of these inequalities in cancer survival are due to inequalities in cancer care, even considering differential patient and tumour factors such as stage at diagnosis. The specific mechanisms by which area-based deprivation levels lead to poorer individual health outcomes within the context of a universal healthcare system, free at the point of use, are not well understood. These analyses will enable, for the first time, the examination of how an individual patient's socio-economic status is associated with poorer cancer survival in England, and will demonstrate how these associations might be modified by the level of deprivation in the small area within which the patient resides. Our aim is to perform an in-depth study of the association between the individual patient's deprivation and cancer survival, considering in particular how this is influenced by their socio-economic context, whether it varies over time since diagnosis and whether it has changed over calendar time. We will focus on three indicators of deprivation: income, education and occupation. We will first examine the correlation between individual and area deprivation, by each of these indicators, and then secondly describe the association between individual deprivation and survival. Third, we will assess whether the association between individual deprivation and patients' survival is modified by area deprivation; that is, whether equally deprived individuals in different areas fare better, or worse, according to the socio-economic context of the area within which they live. Finally we will gain the insights of patients, carers, and healthcare professionals on these data, and communicate these to cancer policy...

    Tenure of household

A classification of whether a household rents or owns the accommodation that it occupies. For rented households, this variable also includes information about the type of landlord who owns or manages the accommodation.

This variable is derived from two questions on the household form on household tenure and landlord.

Household question 12: Does your household own or rent this accommodation?

    • Owns with a mortgage or loan
    • Owns outright
    • Owns with shared equity (for example, LIFT, Help-to-Buy)
    • Rents (with or without housing benefit)
    • Part owns and part rents (shared ownership)
    • Lives rent free

Household question 13: Who is your landlord? (Only asked of households who are renting)

    • Council (Local Authority) or Housing Association / Registered Social Landlord
    • Private landlord or letting agency

    Measurement technique
The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. To measure the two variables, namely (a) population and (b) population as a percentage of the total population, we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the age groups. For age groups we divided it into roughly a 5 year bucket for ages between 0 and 85. For over 85, we aggregated data into a single group for all ages. Description

(Link to Metadata) The VTBB201006 VT Broadband Availability Dataset represents wireline and wireless 'broadband service' availability in VT as of 6/30/2010. This dataset was compiled in support of BroadbandVT.org and the NTIA State Broadband Data and Development (SBDD) grant program. This dataset includes the following feature classes - Utility_VTBB201006_point_Public = The list provided contains non-commercial locations where free broadband access is available. It primarily lists public libraries. - Utility_VTBB201006_poly_BlockAll = Detailed broadband availability by census block - Utility_VTBB201006_poly_BlockSum = Total availability of wireline and wireless broadband service by census block - Utility_VTBB201006_poly_Cable = Availablity of cable broadband by census block - Utility_VTBB201006_poly_DSL = Availablity of DSL broadband by census block - Utility_VTBB201006_poly_Fiber = Availablity of fiber optic broadband by census block - Utility_VTBB201006_poly_Wireless = Availablity of wireless (mobile and fixed) broadband by census block - Utility_VTBB201006_poly_Wireline = Availablity of wireline (cable, DSL, fiber optic) broadband by census block For this purpose, 'broadband service' is the provision, on either a commercial or non-commercial basis, of data transmission technology that provides two-way data transmission to and from the Internet with advertised speeds of at least 768 kilobits per second (kbps) downstream and greater than 200 kbps upstream to end users, or providing sufficient capacity in a middle mile project to support the provision of broadband service to end-users within the project area. For this purpose, an 'end user' of broadband service is a residential or business party, institution or State or local government entity that may use broadband service for its own purposes and that does not resell such service to other entities or incorporate such service into retail Internet-access services. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are not 'end users' for this purpose. An entity is a 'facilities based' provider of broadband service connections to end user locations if any of the following conditions are met: (1) It owns the portion of the physical facility that terminates at the end user location; (2) it obtains unbundled network elements (UNEs), special access lines, or other leased facilities that terminate at the end user location and provisions/equips them as broadband; or (3) it provisions/equips a broadband wireless channel to the end user location over licensed or unlicensed spectrum. For this purpose, 'broadband service' is 'available' at an address if the provider does, or could, within a typical service interval (7 to 10 business days) without an extraordinary commitment of resources, provision two-way data transmission to and from the Internet with advertised speeds of at least 768 kilobits per second (kbps) downstream and greater than 200 kbps upstream to end-users at that address.
