    NZ Parcel Boundaries Wireframe provides a map of land, road and other parcel boundaries, and is especially useful for displaying property boundaries.
    This map service is for visualisation purposes only and is not intended for download. You can download the full parcels data from the NZ Parcels dataset.
    This map service provides a dark outline and transparent fill, making it perfect for overlaying on our basemaps or any map service you choose.
    Data for this map service is sourced from the NZ Parcels dataset which is updated weekly with authoritative data direct from LINZ’s Survey and Title system. Refer to the NZ Parcel layer for detailed metadata.
    To simplify the visualisation of this data, the map service filters the data from the NZ Parcels layer to display parcels with a status of 'current' only.
    This map service has been designed to be integrated into GIS, web and mobile applications via LINZ’s WMTS and XYZ tile services. View the Services tab to access these services.

    This dataset provides title information (excluding ownership) where there is a relationship to one or more primary parcels.

    A Record of Title is a record of a property's owners, legal description and the rights and responsibilities registered against the title.This dataset does not contain any ownership information so that it can be freely distributed. If ownership information is required, you need to apply for access.

    There can be multiple parcels associated with a title, and a title may only have a part share in a parcel. This means the shape representing the title will be an aggregation of all parcels that the title is associated with. The ‘spatial extents shared’ attribute when equal to ‘false’ will indicate that title has exclusive interest over all of the shape (this will be case for the vast majority).

    The originating data for parcel/title associations includes some non-official sources where the official data does not support a link. For more information see the LINZ website

    This layer provides the latest bearing (direction) and/or distance for cadastral boundaries.

    When a cadastral survey is undertaken the relationship between boundary and non-boundary marks is ascertained or measured. • This commonly is in the form or a vector (bearing and distance), but occasionally just one component. • Some relationships are defined as arcs. In this data layer, the arc length is recorded in the distance field and a separate record holds the chord.

    Only observations that have been captured in Landonline are available. This includes vectors that were re-captured in the Survey Capture Areas from survey plans lodged prior to Landonline and all survey observations since.

    This layer provides the latest captured boundary mark information that defines existing parcel boundaries and associated information such as the mark name.

    A boundary mark is on a node which defines the boundaries of primary parcels or non primary parcels.

    Not all boundary points have a physical monument (e.g. a peg) placed. In this case the boundary mark is recorded as “unmarked”

    This dataset extends the Landonline stored data by including the network accuracy which is based upon its assigned Landonline order - refer LINZS25006 (http://www.linz.govt.nz/about-linz/news-publications-and-consultations/search-for-regulatory-documents/DocumentSummary.aspx?document=256 ).

    The accuracy provided relates to the accuracy of coordinates of the mark and has little relevance to the accuracy of the boundary in relation to other boundaries. For example, if the coordinates of the mark were used to locate it, a user would expect to find the existing mark within the nominal accuracy (distance) stated.

    This layer provides the current land parcel polygons with associated descriptive data and is provided for users that require a separation of road parcels and hydro parcels and thereby require the balance layer (i.e. the remaining primary parcels).

    The combination of this layer with the road parcels and hydro parcels equates to the primary parcels layer which provides all current parcels for New Zealand (i.e. excludes historic and pending parcels).

    This layer has a nominal accuracy of 0.1-1m in urban areas and 1-100m in rural areas. For more detailed information about parcel accuracies please refer to the Survey Boundary Marks layer which contains accuracies for each parcel node.

    This set of three parcel layers ('road', 'hydro' and 'land') tables easy access to the most common groupings of parcel intents.

    LINZ maintains a point layer of primary address points allocated by local councils for rateable properties. The principle purpose of this dataset is to allocate voters to the correct electorate. The set is actively maintained, but is still incomplete and some locations are incorrect. Nevertheless it is by far the most comprehensive address database available.

    It includes all (allocated) rural address points (RAPID numbers), commercial addresses and many flat numbers. So numbers are not numeric, there are all sorts of formats included here, sorry. Addresses are not unique. The points are "location addresses", not "postal addresses". For residential town addresses this is normally the same, but for commercial and rural locations they are not the same.

    Primary addresses are only the number and alpha parts. Not included is a flat, unit, apartment, floor or other subdivision of the main property address. They should also not be a range, simply the entrance to the property.

    Address points only have a number and a key to a road centreline segment. They did not contain a full address or postcode as you see here.

    Road names in the address are joined from the road centreline segments All road names in this database are official, with a locality (suburb or town) allocated to make the complete address unique within a local council district. Road names are unique if you include the location and local authority name as part of the name. The postcode alone does not make an address unique because they cover too large an area and NZPost use a different surburb/mailtown/postcode composite key.

    The locality is not derived from the road centrelines. These are not useful because the do not have a left and right and do not reflect common usage. Instead the Fire Service locality polygons have been used to tag the addresses with the preferred name. I know it may not be the name used elsewhere, so a geocoder allows for alternatives.

    These addresses are a "situation" or "location" address, not a "delivery address" or "property identifier". It does not have complete flat or unit numbers, although there are some due to confusion in the purpose of the database, so you will see some.

    NZ Post uses this dataset to maintain their GeoPAF file which is a subset of this data because they only supply 'deliverable' addresses where they deliver mail. Therefore no commercial or rural addresses are included in the PAF (PO Boxes are the postal address for these properties). The postcode has been added from an authoritative postcode map. Postcodes are for bulk mail sorting, not for defining a unique location address. (NZPost will supplement the PAF with all address points for a significant fee.)

    Note that an address number is related to the road centreline. No road - no address. It is a linear referencing system, starting at one end, continuing in sequence to the end of the road with odd numbers on one side and even numbers on the other. In towns the spacing is approximately 20 metres, and in the country it is 200 metres.

    Addresses are NOT related to parcels and should not be a property key because they are not unique, consider a corner section. They do not define property boundaries. Think of addresses as the location of the letterbox marking the entrance to the property, not the building. The mapped point is generally located 15 metres from the centreline at the entrance or at the neck of a rear section. Address ranges on a point are deprecated in the NZ address standard, a single number should be allocated to the principle entrance so the fire service can find it quickly and unambiguously.

    This is different from base address ranges with parity and direction on a road centreline which would be really useful and are common overseas but do not exist for NZ. Even private sets are not done properly. A base address is a simple integer with a range of 1 - 99999.

    This dataset is the definitive of the annually released meshblock boundaries as at 1 January 2023 as defined by Stats NZ (the custodian), clipped to the coastline. This clipped version has been created for cartographic purposes and so does not fully represent the official full extent boundaries. This version contains 57,539 meshblocks.

    Stats NZ maintains an annual meshblock pattern for collecting and producing statistical data. This allows data to be compared over time.

    A meshblock is the smallest geographic unit for which statistical data is collected and processed by Stats NZ. A meshblock is a defined geographic area, which can vary in size from part of a city block to a large area of rural land. The optimal size for a meshblock is 30–60 dwellings (containing approximately 60–120 residents).

    Each meshblock borders on another to form a network covering all of New Zealand, including coasts and inlets and extending out to the 200-mile economic zone (EEZ) and is digitised to the 12-mile (19.3km) limit. Meshblocks are added together to build up larger geographic areas such as statistical area 1 (SA1), statistical area 2 (SA2), statistical area 3 (SA3), and urban rural (UR). They are also used to define electoral districts, territorial authorities, and regional councils.

    Meshblock boundaries generally follow road centrelines, cadastral property boundaries, or topographical features such as rivers. Expanses of water in the form of lakes and inlets are defined separately from land.

    Meshblock maintenance

    Meshblock boundaries are amended by:

    1. Splitting – subdividing a meshblock into two or more meshblocks.
    2. Nudging – shifting a boundary to a more appropriate position.

    Reasons for meshblock splits and nudges can include:

    ·to maintain meshblock criteria rules.

    ·to improve the size balance of meshblocks in areas where there has been population growth

    ·to maintain alignment to cadastre and other geographic features.

    ·Stats NZ requests for boundary changes so that statistical geography boundaries can be moved

    ·external requests for boundary changes so that administrative or electoral boundaries can be moved

    ·to separate land and water. Mainland, inland water, islands, inlets, and oceanic are defined separately

    Meshblock changes are made throughout the year. A major release is made at 1 January each year with ad hoc releases available to users at other times.

    While meshblock boundaries are continually under review, 'freezes' on changes to the boundaries are applied periodically. Such 'freezes' are imposed at the time of population censuses and during periods of intense electoral activity, for example, prior and during general and local body elections.

    Meshblock numbering

    Meshblocks are not named and have seven-digit codes.

    When meshblocks are split, each new meshblock is given a new code. The original meshblock codes no longer exist within that version and future versions of the meshblock classification. Meshblock codes do not change when a meshblock boundary is nudged.

    Meshblocks that existed prior to 2015 and have not changed are numbered from 0000100 to 3210003. Meshblocks created from 2015 onwards are numbered from 4000000.

    Digitised and non-digitised meshblocks

    The digital geographic boundaries are defined and maintained by Stats NZ.

    Meshblocks cover the land area of New Zealand, the water area to the 12mile limit, the Chatham Islands, Kermadec Islands, sub-Antarctic islands, offshore oil rigs, and Ross Dependency. The following 16 meshblocks are not held in digitised form.
