Chart and table of the French Guiana fertility rate from 1950 to 2025. United Nations projections are also included through the year 2100.
In La Réunion and Martinique, the rate of live births declined by about 16 points between 1968 and 2020. Even more significant is the decline in the birth rate in Guadeloupe, which went from nearly 35 live births per 1,000 population to 11.6. In contrast, the birth rate has remained fairly stable in French Guiana, fluctuating between 25.2 and 31.8 live births per 1,000 population between 1968 and 2020. In fact, it was the highest of the four regions in 2020.
