    Description

In recent years, gas stations with convenience stores have navigated a landscape of fluctuating demand, volatile oil prices and economic volatility. The pandemic brought substantial challenges, with fuel sales dropping during lockdowns and then climbing as society reopened, leading to price fluctuations driven by supply chain disruptions. Growing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) prompted gas stations to invest in EV infrastructure, reshaping their service models. Strategic acquisitions by giants like Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. (Couche-Tard) and 7-Eleven Inc. (7-Eleven) have further defined the competitive landscape by expanding market reach and consolidating market presence. Couche-Tard and 7-Eleven have discussed a merger, but talks have dragged on amid regulatory intervention. Despite these challenges, the industry's resilience is evident, with revenue expected to climb at a CAGR of 0.5% to $553.2 billion through the end of 2025, including a bump of 0.7% in 2025. Profitability remains under pressure from oil price volatility, affecting profit and creating revenue unpredictability. Gas stations counteract these fluctuations by revising consumer prices, yet the inherent unpredictability of oil markets remains a formidable challenge. In the face of this, gas stations are bolstering convenience store offerings and using digital transformation strategies such as contactless payments and loyalty programs to enhance the customer experience and sustain revenue streams. However, substantial investments in technology and EV infrastructure require careful financial management to balance near-term profitability and long-term gains. In the next five years, the industry will pivot toward significant shifts driven by ongoing electrification, renewable energy integration and evolving consumer expectations. As EV adoption continues, investment in charging infrastructure will be vital, posing both challenges and opportunities for revenue diversification. Regulatory and consumer demand for sustainable practices will push gas stations toward renewable energy and alternative fuel offerings. Companies can improve operational efficiency and customer loyalty by leveraging data-driven insights for inventory management and personalized customer experiences. The industry's focus on innovation and sustainable investment will be vital for maintaining competitiveness. Revenue for gas stations with convenience stores is expected to swell at a CAGR of 1.5% to $595.7 billion through the end of 2030.

Grocery wholesalers act as a middleman between food producers and retailers. Improving per capita disposable income has allowed consumers to trade up to more expensive options at grocery stores or switch to dining out. Grocery wholesalers benefit either way as they distribute products to both markets. However, the growing trend of eliminating the middleman has pressured revenue expansion during the period. Still, grocery wholesalers' revenue shrunk at an estimated 1.7% CAGR to $298.2 billion over the past five years, including an anticipated 0.8% gain in 2025 alone. Although grocery wholesalers have a moderate market share concentration, businesses vary in size depending on their target market and geographical scope. The disproportionate size of grocery wholesalers has contributed to industry consolidation over the past decade as large wholesalers constantly seek new inorganic expansion opportunities. Grocery wholesalers' profit is also susceptible to change depending on the size of an organization and relevant industry prices such as produce and fuel. During the five years, significant disruptions in the supply chain and increases in the price of gas and energy pushed up transportation costs and contributed to decreasing profit. Over the next five years, grocery wholesalers' revenue expansion is anticipated to expand. The industry will be impacted by strengthened economic uncertainty and changes in downstream consumer preferences. Recent hikes in inflation will negatively impact grocery wholesalers' performance as consumers are forced to change their purchasing habits to manage expenses. However, growing per capita disposable income and a boost in the number of households will drive industry expansion. Moreover, agricultural product prices are expected to dwindle during the same period. Also, rising demand for specialized goods will lead smaller companies to carve out niche markets, supplying locally produced foods, ethnic foods and specialty imported foods. As a result, industry revenue will climb at an expected CAGR of 0.4% over the next five years to reach $303.6 billion in 2030.

    Description

Volatile crude oil prices and economic uncertainty have defined the performance of Canadian gas stations with convenience stores. Consumer demand declined with a slump in travel caused by the pandemic. Starting in 2021, the recovery of the global economy led to a massive surge in the world price of crude oil. Rising oil prices increased revenue as prices were passed down to consumers. High crude oil prices and improving economic conditions have boosted sales volumes. In 2023, tempering crude oil prices dragged down sales at the pump again, with revenue contracting 1.0%. Revenue for gas stations with convenience stores is expected to drop at a CAGR of 0.3% to $28.3 billion through the end of 2025, including a dip of 0.7% in 2025 alone as the consumer confidence index and the world price of crude oil weaken. The industry has expanded as more gas stations added convenience stores because of the considerably higher profit gained from the sale of merchandise. Still, crude oil prices drive profitability as upstream markets pass down costs to gas stations. The world price of crude oil has fluctuated wildly, first because of the pandemic and, more recently, because of global geopolitical challenges like Russia's invasion of Ukraine. These events have ultimately influenced the global supply of crude oil, causing prices to largely remain elevated. These wild swings have contributed to a slump in profitability for gas stations with convenience stores. The world price of crude oil is expected to expand at a CAGR of 11.7% through the end of 2025. Consumers have already reduced their dependence on fossil fuels by relying on new fuel-efficient vehicles in response to rising environmental concerns. The Canadian government has initiated programs to incentivize hybrid and electric vehicle sales. This threat to the overall viability of the industry will remain strong moving forward. Still, rising incomes drive general economic growth, while consumer spending and trade activity will lift fuel sales. The growing emphasis on convenience store sales will help buoy the industry if volatility in fuel prices continues. Revenue for gas stations with convenience stores is expected to climb at a CAGR of 0.1% to $28.4 billion through the end of 2030.

Food Grade Industrial Gas Market Outlook

The global food grade industrial gas market size was valued at approximately USD 6.2 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach around USD 9.9 billion by 2032, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.4% during the forecast period. The upward trajectory of this market can be attributed to several growth factors, including the increasing demand for packaged and frozen foods, which necessitates the use of food grade industrial gases for preservation and safety. Furthermore, technological advancements in food processing and packaging have enabled more efficient use of these gases, contributing to market growth. The emphasis on food safety and hygiene standards is also a significant driver, prompting food processors to adopt industrial gases to extend shelf life, enhance food quality, and maintain nutritional value.

The surge in consumer demand for fresh and minimally processed foods is another key factor driving the market. As consumers become increasingly health-conscious, there is a growing preference for organic and natural products that require effective preservation techniques. Food grade industrial gases play a crucial role in meeting these consumer needs by facilitating processes such as modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), which helps in retaining the freshness of food products without the use of chemical preservatives. Additionally, the expansion of the food and beverage industry, particularly in emerging economies, is creating substantial growth opportunities for the market. With the global population steadily increasing, there is an escalating demand for food products, further fueling the requirement for food grade industrial gases.

Technological innovations in gas delivery and application systems have significantly bolstered market growth as well. Developments such as advanced cryogenic freezing and chilling technologies have revolutionized food processing, providing enhanced efficiency and cost-effectiveness. These innovations help in maintaining the taste, texture, and nutritional quality of food products, making them highly attractive to consumers. Furthermore, the integration of IoT and automation in gas supply systems has streamlined operations in food processing facilities, reducing manual intervention and the risk of contamination. Such advancements are facilitating the seamless adoption of industrial gases across the food processing landscape, thus contributing to the market's robust growth.

Regionally, the Asia Pacific is expected to register significant growth during the forecast period, driven by rapid urbanization, changing dietary habits, and the expansion of the middle-class population in countries like China and India. These factors have led to increased consumption of processed and convenience foods, thereby boosting the demand for food grade industrial gases. North America and Europe also hold substantial market shares due to the presence of established food and beverage industries and stringent food safety regulations. Latin America and the Middle East & Africa, while smaller in market size, present emerging opportunities owing to the increasing adoption of advanced food processing technologies and the growth of export-oriented food industries.
