Peru's diesel retail prices have been on a rising trend for the last years. In 2022, one liter of diesel fuel was sold at **** U.S. dollars, the highest figure reported since 2014. However, diesel fuel prices in the South American country peaked two years earlier in 2012, after having reached a high of **** U.S. dollars per liter.

The retail price of regular gasoline in Venezuela has remained consistently low over the past two decades, never surpassing *** U.S. dollars per liter. Meanwhile, the price of premium gasoline spiked in recent years, reaching some *** U.S. dollars per liter in 2021 and 2022. This was the highest price for premium gasoline reported since 2016 and 2017, when Venezuela's president Nicolas Maduro raised gasoline retail prices in an effort to shore up the nation's finances. Nevertheless, Venezuela has some of the world's lowest gasoline prices thanks to its large domestic oil production.

The average state tax for gasoline in the United States was **** U.S. cents per gallon in 2023. This was lower than the state tax for diesel, which averaged ***** U.S. cents that same year. State taxes for both motor fuel types increased notably in the period of consideration.

Peru's gasoline retail prices have been continually rising for the past two years. In 2022, one liter of regular gasoline was sold at **** U.S. dollars, while one liter of premium gasoline was sold at **** U.S. dollars. Retail prices of gasoline in the South American country peaked in 2012, at **** and **** U.S. dollars per liter for regular and premium gasoline, respectively.

This data focuses on tracking total revenue and political donations of 5 major Gas companies from 2001-2021: Shell, BP, ExxonMobile, Chevron & Marathon. All currency is in USD and the Average Gas price tab track United States average gas prices per Gallon.

The first tab titled "Company Revenues" is the total revenue per year reported by each companies yearly financial reports, which are public information. Links can be found on the last tab, titled "links". The "company political donations tab" is compromised of total amounts of political donations made by each company to Republican (R) and Democrat (D) parties every two years from 2000-2022. This information was provided by opensecerts.org and the links for this information can be found on the "links" tab.

Inspiration

Are gas companies intentionally price gauging us? Are they manipulating prices when it comes to which political party holds office? Is this reflected in their total revenue verses the average gas price for that year? I'm open to collecting more data that might provide more information regarding the changes in gas prices (Like logistics, or policy influence).
