    Description

The gasoline price in the Philippines continued to fluctuate in 2023 and the first quarter of 2025, reaching 56.34 Philippine pesos per liter in April 2025. The retail price of petrol peaked between May and June 2022.   Which countries supply petroleum products to the Philippines? The refined petroleum products supply in the Philippines is mainly imported from South Korea, which accounts for 31 percent of the total import share. Singapore and China also provide a large share of the country’s petroleum product supply. Due to a dormant oil refining capacity, the production of petroleum refinery products in the Philippines has shown sluggish growth recently, further emphasizing the need for importing such products. Leading petroleum companies in the Philippines Shell Pilipinas Corporation held the highest share of the petroleum market in the Philippines, with a market share of about 16 percent in 2023. The company operated its petroleum refinery until 2020, when it decided to focus on imports. There is only one operating oil refinery in the country, which is run by the second-largest oil company – Petron Corporation.

    Description

This table shows the average prices paid for natural gas and electricity. The total prices represent the sum of energy supply prices and network prices.

The total price is the price paid by an end-user, for instance a household or an industrial company consuming energy in their production process. Natural gas used for non-energy purposes or for electricity generation is excluded from the data.

Data available from: 1st semester of 2009

Status of the figures: The figures in this table are provisional for the two most recent semesters, and the annual figures follow the status of the second semester of the relevant reporting year. The remaining figures are final.

Changes as of September 30: Figures for the first half of 2025 have been added.

The network prices for final non-household customers will from now on, and dating back to 2009, be derived from administrative data sources. This now follows the methodology for households. Consumption data can be combined with tariffs that are published on the websites of the network companies, providing the necessary data to compile the prices. The change in methodology is carried out for the full time-series, making sure the network prices are consistent and price changes are not the result of varying measurement approaches.

When will new figures be published? New provisional figures will be published three months after the semesters end, at the end of September and at the end of March.

    Description

The 2025 annual OPEC basket price stood at ***** U.S. dollars per barrel as of August. This would be lower than the 2024 average, which amounted to ***** U.S. dollars. The abbreviation OPEC stands for Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and includes Algeria, Angola, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, and the United Arab Emirates. The aim of the OPEC is to coordinate the oil policies of its member states. It was founded in 1960 in Baghdad, Iraq. The OPEC Reference Basket The OPEC crude oil price is defined by the price of the so-called OPEC (Reference) basket. This basket is an average of prices of the various petroleum blends that are produced by the OPEC members. Some of these oil blends are, for example: Saharan Blend from Algeria, Basra Light from Iraq, Arab Light from Saudi Arabia, BCF 17 from Venezuela, et cetera. By increasing and decreasing its oil production, OPEC tries to keep the price between a given maxima and minima. Benchmark crude oil The OPEC basket is one of the most important benchmarks for crude oil prices worldwide. Other significant benchmarks are UK Brent, West Texas Intermediate (WTI), and Dubai Crude (Fateh). Because there are many types and grades of oil, such benchmarks are indispensable for referencing them on the global oil market. The 2025 fall in prices was the result of weakened demand outlooks exacerbated by extensive U.S. trade tariffs.

    Description

This repository contains the resources in our paper "When Do Fuel Price Reforms Trigger Protest? Diffuse versus Concentrated Losses in Subsidy Politics"

    Ramon Villa-Cox, Juan F. Rumbea P, Luis A. Guamán L.

This paper examines how different types of fuel price reforms affect protest dynamics in Ecuador, a country with varied experiences in subsidy adjustments. Leveraging a novel methodological approach that combines administrative police data and protest indicators from ACLED and GDELT via neural networks and ARIMAX models, we construct a comprehensive daily protest-intensity series from 2018 to 2024. Using a Vector Autoregressive (VAR) model, we test whether changes in diesel, regular gasoline, and premium gasoline prices Granger-cause shifts in protest activity. Our findings demonstrate that diesel price increases trigger substantial and persistent protests, whereas regular gasoline reforms generate moderate, short-lived responses, and premium gasoline reforms have no significant impact.

This repository is comprised of the datasets necessary for the replication of the results of the study.

    1. Input Datasets: Contain raw datasets form third party sources
    • Protest\protestas_original.csv: Original protest series with missing values. This dataset contains the original daily protest records with missing values. It reflects direct administrative records of collective actions, providing a ground-truth benchmark for validation and comparison with alternative protest measures derived from media and event-based sources.
    • GDELT\RSU_index.csv: GDELT-derived indices. This dataset contains indices derived from the Global Database of Events, Language, and Tone (GDELT), constructed using the methodological framework proposed by Barrett et al. (2022). The RSU index aggregates signals of unrest, stability, and urgency as reported in global media coverage, offering a media-based proxy to detect periods of social tension and protest activity.

    Description

In 2024, the export price for one barrel of the Urals crude oil was expected to reach 70 U.S. dollars. In the following year, the Russian government expected it to decrease slightly, and in 2027, it was projected to reach 65.5 U.S. dollars per barrel. Urals is Russia's major export oil brand. Crude oil prices in Russia Different types of oil, such as light-weight, low-sulfur (light-sweet) grades and heavier, higher-sulfur (heavy-sour) crudes, can create differences in oil prices. Prices of a barrel of crude oil tend to fluctuate throughout the year due to factors like sulfur content, specific gravity, and location. In recent years, the price of Russian Urals crude oil reached a high of almost 95 U.S. dollars per barrel in February 2022 and a low of 16.6 U.S. dollars per barrel in April 2020. The Urals oil is used as a basis for Russian export oil mixture – a mix of heavy, high-oil from the Urals and Volga region and a light Siberian oil. The oil and gas industry account for a large majority of the country’s export income. Many global sources of crude oil are located in areas that are prone to political upheavals or have production disrupted by political events. Prices of major crude oil blends In comparison, the West Texas Intermediate crude oil price was estimated at 79.5 U.S. dollars per barrel in 2024. Furthermore, Dubai Fateh oil prices have fluctuated in the past decade, having reached 82.1 U.S. dollars per barrel in 2023. Prices of petroleum products fluctuate in parallel with crude oil prices but can also depend on seasonality, market factors, or refining outages. Petroleum products like gasoline, diesel, and petrochemical feedstocks are usually the most relevant to consumers.
