This table shows the average prices paid for natural gas and electricity. The total prices represent the sum of energy supply prices and network prices.
The total price is the price paid by an end-user, for instance a household or an industrial company consuming energy in their production process. Natural gas used for non-energy purposes or for electricity generation is excluded from the data.
The price cap set by the Dutch government for 2023 has now been incorporated into the prices.

TTF Gas decreased 8.92 EUR/MWh or 17.69% since the beginning of 2025, according to trading on a contract for difference (CFD) that tracks the benchmark market for this commodity. EU Natural Gas TTF - values, historical data, forecasts and news - updated on March of 2025.
Dutch TTF gas futures amounted to 42.75 euros per megawatt hour on March 24, 2025 for contracts with delivery in April 2025. Figures rose slightly compared to the previous weeks and were roughly 15 euros higher than in the same month the year prior. Dutch TTF is seen as a Europe-wide natural gas price benchmark. Europe more reliant on imports The Groningen gas field is the largest gas field in Europe and the major natural gas source in the Netherlands. In 2014, the first earthquake related to drilling the field occurred, and other seismic activities were also observed. Therefore, the Groningen field has drastically reduced its production output. Since then, natural gas production in the Netherlands has been in a trend of continuous decline. To balance the diminished domestic production, the European market relies on liquefied natural gas imports and pipeline inflow. LNG pricing across European regions The European gas market exhibits regional variations, as evidenced by LNG prices in different parts of the continent. The Southwest Europe LNG price is generally slightly higher than LNG prices in Northwest Europe. The latter reached around 13 U.S. dollars per million British thermal units in late March 2025.

This table contains consumer prices for electricity and gas. Weighted average monthly prices are published broken down into transport rate, delivery rates and taxes, both including and excluding VAT. These prices are published on a monthly basis. The prices presented in this table were used to compile the CPI up to May 2023. Prices for newly offered contracts were collected. Contract types that are no longer offered, but have been in previous reporting periods, are imputed. The average can therefore diverge from the prices paid for energy contracts by Dutch households.
Data available from January 2018 up to May 2023.
Status of the figures: The figures are definitive.
Changes as of 17 July 2023: This table will no longer be updated. Due to a change in the underlying data and accompanying method for calculcating average energy prices, a new table was created. See paragraph 3.
Changes as of 13 February: Average delivery rates are not shown in this table from January 2023 up to May 2023. With the introduction of the price cap, the average energy rates (delivery rates) of fixed and variable energy contracts together remained useful for calculating a development for the CPI. However, as a pricelevel, they are less useful. Average energy prices from January 2023 up to May 2023 are published in a customized table. In this publication, only data concerning new variable contracts are taken into account
When will new figures be published? Does not apply.
On average, the price of natural gas for industry has been higher for facilities with a consumption of up to 100,000 gigajoules in the Netherlands. Between 2013 and 2016, consumption tariff rates decreased annually. However, since 2019, prices increased, with the price for those with a consumption of up to 100,000 gigajoule rising to 4.22 euro cents per kilowatt hour in 2021. Residential pricesNatural gas prices for households in the Netherlands with a consumption of 20 to 200 GJ a year have seen the overall price increase since 2010. By the second half of 2018, prices including all taxes, levies and VAT had reached 8.6 euro cents per kilowatt hour. As of October 2021, residential end users gas prices in the Dutch capital of Amsterdam stood at 34.08 euro cents per kilowatt hour.Domestic demandNatural gas consumption in the Netherlands amounted to 35.1 billion cubic meters in 2021. From 2015 onwards, the country has seen an increase in demand. This has occurred alongside the recent decline in the natural gas production. This fall in production is due to the cut in output from the Groningen gas field.

The retail price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the Netherlands stood at 75 euro cents on July 1, 2024. This figure represents a slight increase of less than one euro cent in comparison to the previous year. Often referred to as autogas when used as a fuel for motor vehicles, LPG generally has a lower energy density than petrol or fuel oil. Compared to the price of unleaded 95 octane fuel, LPG is significantly cheaper. LPG cars have lower average purchase price In regard to the average purchase price of new passenger cars, LPG-fueled vehicles tend to be the cheapest option for drivers in the Netherlands. Diesel cars are among the most expensive out of all petroleum-fueled vehicles, with prices more than three times those for LPG cars. Netherlands among EU countries with highest fuel prices The Netherlands generally has some of the highest fuel prices in the European Union. In June 2023, the average price for gasoline was above 1.8 euros per liter. This put the Netherlands ahead of neighboring Germany, but below other large car markets Italy and France, which were even more expensive. Fuel prices are primarily determined by crude oil prices and crude availability in addition to subsidies and taxes that may be imposed.

Natural gas producers are facing turbulent times. Europe has traditionally relied on Russia and Norway as internal sources of natural gas, while countries such as the US, Qatar and Algeria are a major source of imports. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has shaken up Europe’s natural gas supply structure, with European governments making efforts to reduce their dependence on Russian gas supplies. Revenue is forecast to fall at a compound annual rate of 4.4% to €71.6 billion over the five years through 2024. Revenue expanded in 2021 as a sharp hike in natural gas prices and a post-pandemic rise in demand drove an increase in exploration and production activity. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine led to a spike in natural gas prices, with the impacts of reduced demand for gas and a decrease in Russian gas production outweighed by soaring wholesale prices and heightened demand for other natural gas reserves, spurring a jump in revenue. An ongoing reduction in demand for natural gas and easing prices caused revenue to dip in 2023. This trend is expected to continue into 2024, when revenue is slated to fall by 57%. Revenue is forecast to rise at a compound annual rate of 11.9% over the five years through 2029 to €125.3 billion. The gas market will continue to be shaped by geopolitical tensions into the medium term, with the International Energy Agency expecting natural gas prices to remain high until 2025 as countries continue to shift their supply structure. Following this, natural gas demand and prices are set to fall as Europe continues to expand its renewables capacity.
