    Description

This data layer contains the 1:24,000-scale bedrock-geology polygons of Ohio. The polygons were originally derived from the 1:24,000-scale bedrock-geology maps, which were created between the mid 1960's through 1997. Detailed mapping at 1:24,000 scale was performed in Ohio from the 1960's to the 1980's. During that time period, 37 7.5-minute quadrangles were mapped in detail. The bedrock-geology mapping program was initiated at the Ohio Division of Geological Survey in 1991 to perform reconnaissance geologic mapping at 1:24,000 scale. The reconnaissance and detailed geologic mapping have been combined together into this GIS dataset. There will be edge-matching issues between the reconnaissance and detailed geologic maps.

Download .zipMaps and data associated with oil-and-gas wells represent one of the largest datasets at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. This GIS data layer contains all the locatable oil-and-gas wells in Ohio. The feature is derived from coordinates obtained from the Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management (DOGRM) oil and gas well database – Risk Based Data Management System (RBDMS). The RBDMS database has a long history and is a comprehensive collection of well data from historic pre-1980 paper well records (digitized by the Division of Geological Survey (DGS)) to post-1980 DOGRM database solutions.Since 1860, it is estimated that more than 267,000 oil-and-gas wells have been drilled in Ohio. The compressed file also includes a feature used to connect the surface location to the bottom location of a well that has been drilled directionally or horizontally. This feature is NOT the actual wellbore path, it is simply a graphical representation indicating the relationship between the two well points.Contact Information:GIS Support, ODNR GIS ServicesOhio Department of Natural ResourcesDivision of Oil & Gas ResourcesOil and Gas Resources Management2045 Morse Road Bldg F-2Columbus, OH, 43229-6693Telephone: 614-265-6462Email: gis.support@dnr.ohio.gov Data Update Frequency: Every Saturday

Download .zipA soil mapping unit designates a specific type of soil which has unique characteristics including texture, slope, and erosion class.

These soils were digitized from the paper original soil survey sheets. These sheets were taped together to form an area covering each of the USGS 7.5 minute quadrangle maps in the county. The areas for each quadrangle were then digitized using run-length encoding technique sampling along horizontal lines which represented the midline of cells with a height of 250 feet. The measurement increment along these lines was one decafoot (10 feet). The quadrangle files were then merged into a county file which has subsequently been converted to Arc/Info format.

The user should bear in mind that this coverage is only an approximation of the soil survey and should not be used for site specific analysis.

Additional details of the digitizing process are available upon request.

    Description

Download .zipThis coverage was extracted from the 1994 statewide land cover inventory of Ohio produced by Bruce R. Motsch and Gary M. Schaal of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

The land cover inventory for the State of Ohio was produced by the digital image processing of Landsat Thematic Mapper Data. The Thematic Mapper is a multi-spectral scanner that collects electromagnetic radiation reflected from the earth's surface in the visible, near infrared and mid-infrared wavelength bands. The resolution of the Thematic Mapper data is a 30 meter by 30 meter cell. The computer analysis of the data isolates unique spectral classes that relate to land cover characteristics.

The land cover inventory was produced from Thematic Mapper data acquired in September and October 1994. The data was classified into the general land cover categories of urban, agriculture/open urban areas, shrub/scrub, wooded, open water, non-forested wetlands and barren.

The land cover information reflects the conditions of the satellite data during the specific year and season the data was acquired. The Thematic Mapper data was processed using ERDAS image processing software. The data was originally created in raster format and georeferenced to Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) zone 17 coordinates NAD27. The data can be combined with other georeferenced digital data layers.

The data is also available in its original ERDAS image format.

    Description

Surficial ”stack” maps depict the texture and thickness of unconsolidated geologic materials. These geologic maps are intended to display the three-dimensional layers of glacial and post-glacial sediments, their contact with the top of bedrock, and potential sand-and-gravel and carbonate aggregate resources (Aden and others, 2023; Aden and Nash, 2023). Between 1997 and 2022, surficial geology maps were published by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Geological Survey (Survey). These maps were incorporated into a digital GIS database during the final five years of new map production (Aden and others, 2023). This Digital Data File (DDF) and release of statewide, seamless 1:24,000-scale data produced by this mapping program marks the transition from publishing static paper geologic maps to maintaining a living digital dataset. The surficial geology database is comprised of four ArcGIS® feature classes and one layer file. It can be viewed and downloaded through the Ohio Geology Interactive Map on the Survey’s website at ohiodnr.gov/ogim. The surficial geology database also can be downloaded directly from the Survey’s surficial geology webpage: ohiodnr.gov/surficialgeology.
