ABSTRACT Higher education has been facing great challenges due to rapidly occurring transformations in society. In this context, the application of innovative teaching methods that encourage students to create and develop scientific and critical thinking is constantly required. Nevertheless, one should first consider the use of strategies for approaching students - especially those from a younger generation, born in the mid-90s, who are currently initiating college. For this group of students, collectively referred to as Generation Z, it is essential that educators renew their teaching methods to improve the learning process. In this study, the use of virtual tools such as Facebook and YouTube was evaluated to determine their effect in higher-education student learning at the University of Salvador, Bahia. Facebook was used as the main communication tool between professors and students, and YouTube was used as a channel for virtual lessons developed by the students themselves. Both proposals have been suggested to but not demanded from the students. In the end, a semi-structured questionnaire was applied to assess student perception. As a result, we observed a high degree of student participation in the methodologies proposed. Moreover, their perception that the methods were effective for knowledge acquisition was the main positive indicator of the analysis. In conclusion, the use of virtual tools can be an effective method in the learning process of students, especially where younger ones are concerned.
How it Started
I was interested in collecting data about how Generation Z makes decisions because college is on the horizon for my classmates and me. We are becoming the leaders, entrepreneurs, and creators of tomorrow and behind every successful person, is their ability to make the right decision at the right time.
How I Collected my Data
I collected my data through google forms and before the answers started to trickle in, I created my own hypothesis. I thought that most students in Generation Z would not be afraid to make decisions and that since they are one of the smartest generations, they would be able to tackle the task of picking which college is best for them and why.
Inspiration
I am very much aware that a lot of research is being done to find out more about Generation Z, but I was so inspired by my research coach, Coach Jo, who is currently doing research with Dr. Peggy Dawson about Generation Z and Productivity. I learned that Generation Z is by far the smartest generation, but our attention spans are cut short because of how much we use technology and the internet. This research will help find out whether technology and making decision affects Generation Z and how we, as a society, can make better decisions for better futures.

Nanotechnology is increasingly becoming a part of everyday life. Despite this growing integration, public awareness of nanotechnology's functionality, benefits, and potential risks remains limited. This is particularly true for Generation Z, the first digitally native generation, which is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of technology and its applications. Given their position as future leaders and consumers, it is important to understand how Generation Z, specifically university students, perceives and understands nanotechnology. The primary aim of this study was to assess the current level of knowledge about nanotechnology among the Czech public, with a specific focus on Generation Z university students. This focus on Generation Z is particularly important as their views on new technologies, including nanotechnology, will likely shape public discourse and innovation trends in the coming decades. A cross-sectional online survey was conducted using the Nano-Knowledge Instrument and a Sociodemographic questionnaire.
The research sample consisted of 107 Generation Z university students aged 19-26, from diverse fields of study. The findings revealed knowledge gaps regarding the benefits and applications of nanomaterials. These results highlight the necessity for targeted educational initiatives to address these gaps, particularly within Generation Z, to ensure informed public engagement. Enhancing awareness among younger generations is essential for fostering responsible innovation and creating a supportive environment for the development of NT policies.
