Channel migration is the natural process by which streams move laterally over time. It is typically a gradual phenomenon that works over many years to effect significant migration. In some cases, usually associated with flood events, significant migration can happen rapidly. Channel migration can and has created hazardous conditions within Oregon’s developed riparian areas. Areas of high susceptibility to rapid and potentially catastrophic migration are known anecdotally, but statewide susceptibility screening has not been performed. This dataset represents a screening of channel migration susceptibility for the primary and (if applicable) secondary drainage in each subbasin (HUC-8) that intersects with the State of Oregon.

This data layer is an element of the Oregon GIS Framework. Digital 4 band ortho imagery covering the state of Oregon was flown over the Summer of 2009. Imagery was collected with a Lecia ADS40-SH51 digital camera at a flight height of 19'000 agl. The 4 Band imagery was rectified and cut into a DOQs. The imagery is provided in the Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere projection as a tiled service, and in the State Lambert projection as an image service. This dataset represents the locations of licenced and permitted pits and quarries regulated by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) under the Aggregate Resources Act, R.S.O. 1990.
Aggregate site data has been divided into active and inactive sites. Active sites may be further subdivided into partial surrenders. In partial surrenders, defined areas of a site are inactive while the rest of the site remains active.
The data includes:
site location and size licensee name approval type (licence or permit) operation type (pit or quarry) maximum annual tonnage limit the MNRF district responsible for the site
Use our interactive Pits and Quarries map to find active sites.
This data does not include aggregate sites regulated by the Ministry of Transportation.
