    Description

    The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. Face refers to the areal (polygon) topological primitives that make up MTDB. A face is bounded by one or more edges; its boundary includes only the edges that separate it from other faces, not any interior edges contained within the area of the face. The Topological Faces Shapefile contains the attributes of each topological primitive face. Each face has a unique topological face identifier (TFID) value. Each face in the shapefile includes the key geographic area codes for all geographic areas for which the Census Bureau tabulates data for both the 2020 Census and the annual estimates and surveys. The geometries of each of these geographic areas can then be built by dissolving the face geometries on the appropriate key geographic area codes in the Topological Faces Shapefile.

    The vertical land change activity focuses on the detection, analysis, and explanation of topographic change. These detection techniques include both quantitative methods, for example, using difference metrics derived from multi-temporal topographic digital elevation models (DEMs), such as, light detection and ranging (lidar), National Elevation Dataset (NED), Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), and Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (IFSAR), and qualitative methods, for example, using multi-temporal aerial photography to visualize topographic change. The geographic study areas of this activity are in Itasca and St. Louis counties in the northern Minnesota Mesabi Iron Range.     Description

    Annual crop data from 1972 to 1998 are now available on EOS-WEBSTER. These data are county-based acreage, production, and yield estimates published by the National Agricultural Statistics Service. We also provide county level livestock, geography, agricultural management, and soil properties derived from datasets from the early 1990s.

     The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), the statistical
     arm of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, publishes U.S., state, and
     county level agricultural statistics for many commodities and data
     series. In response to our users requests, EOS-WEBSTER now provides 27
     years of crop statistics, which can be subset temporally and/or
     spatially. All data are at the county scale, and are only for the
     conterminous US (48 states + DC). There are 3111 counties in the
     database. The list includes 43 cities that are classified as
     counties: Baltimore City, MD; St. Louis City, MO; and 41 cities in
     Virginia.
    
     In addition, a collection of livestock, geography, agricultural
     practices, and soil properties variables for 1992 is available through
     EOS-WEBSTER. These datasets were assembled during the mid-1990's to
     provide driving variables for an assessment of greenhouse gas
     production from US agriculture using the DNDC agro-ecosystem model
     [see, for example, Li et al. (1992), J. Geophys. Res., 97:9759-9776;
     Li et al. (1996) Global Biogeochem. Cycles, 10:297-306]. The data
     (except nitrogen fertilizer use) were all derived from publicly
     available, national databases. Each dataset has a separate DIF.
    
     The US County data has been divided into seven datasets.

    Description

    We examined population genetic structure and fine-scale spatial genetic structure (FSGS) in six perennial understory angiosperms in Andean cloud forests of northwestern Ecuador. Species belong to three families (Gesneriaceae, Melastomataceae, and Rubiaceae), and within each family we paired one insect-pollinated with one hummingbird-pollinated species, predicting that insect-pollinated species have greater population differentiation (as quantified with the FST statistic) and stronger FSGS (as quantified with the SP statistic) than hummingbird-pollinated species. Methods

    GPS coordinates of 30–42 individuals per species from 2–3 sites in northwestern Ecuador were taken with a Garmin GPSMAP device. Genetic data is stored in fastq format and corresponds to quality filtered 2B-RAD sequencing reads (raw reads were generated at the BYU DNA Sequencing Center). These filtered reads were processed as described in the manuscript methods for estimating population genetic parameters in the 'de novo' Stacks v2.3e pipeline. The genepop file was used in GenoDive v3.0 to estimate population genetic structure parameters and the vcf file was used in the R program SNPRelate to produce the gds files and perform a PCA. The input files for SPAGeDi v. 1.3a are stored for each species in the corresponnding txt file, used for FSGS analyses. Db=Drymonia brochidodroma, Dt=Drymonia tenuis, Mt=Meriania tomentosa, Om=Miconia rubescens (for the synonym Ossaea micrantha), Nl=Notopleura longipedunculoides, Pd=Palicourea demissa.

    Description

    At the request of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, John MiIner Associates, Inc. (JMA) conducted a National Historic Preservation Act Section 110 compliance investigation for the Chicago District. The work entailed preparation of an inventory of electronically scanned and geo-referenced historic maps and aerial photographs that could be used in planning projects undertaken by the district in support of its major missions: flood control, shoreline protection, navigation, environmental protection, and emergency management. A total of 3,501 historic maps, map sections, and aerial photographs were inventoried, electronically scanned, and geo-referenced to facilitate integration with the current level of GIS mapping used by the district. Another 182 aerial photographs were inventoried and electronically scanned, but not geo-referenced, due to district priorities and funding limitations. This ARRA funded Task Order employed 23 specialists.

Face refers to the areal (polygon) topological primitives that make up MTDB. A face is bounded by one or more edges; its boundary includes only the edges that separate it from other faces, not any interior edges contained within the area of the face. The Topological Faces Shapefile contains the attributes of each topological primitive face. Each face has a unique topological face identifier (TFID) value. Each face in the shapefile includes the key geographic area codes for all geographic areas for which the Census Bureau tabulates data for both the 2020 Census and the annual estimates and surveys. The geometries of each of these geographic areas can then be built by dissolving the face geometries on the appropriate key geographic area codes in the Topological Faces Shapefile.
