This layer depicts all islands in Alaska, from the Pacific coastal boundary to 50km inland. This dataset was developed using USGS features data, and adapted for this web mapping application. It contains over 6100 features for Alaska. This layer is critical to Vdatum assessments, as it adds labels to islands near candidate Vdatum sites, which aids in planning for a potential installation. This layer was used in the Alaska Vdatum Oceanographic / Geodetic Assessment Overview, which is an internal GIS web mapping application that was used to determine 125 candidate sites., which are prioritized in this layer.Any questions can be directed to Nate Murry, CO-OPS Vdatum Coordinator, at nathan.murry@noaa.gov.

This polygon feature class defines the extent and type of littoral vegetation within the western marsh portion of Lake Okeechobee between Belle Glade and the Kissimmee River (including Eagle Bay Island). The map was completed by interpreting aerial imagery collected in 1972-1973. This mapping effort did not include submersed macrophytes which extended into deeper water beyond the emergent, floating-leaved, and floating zone. At that time, this portion of the vegetated littoral zone encompassed nearly 39,000 ha (96,400 acres) or 21 percent of the lake area. Dominant vegetation included cattail [Typhu spp.; 9,700 ha.(24,000 acres)], spikerush [Eleochuris ceZZuZosu;7,100 ha. (17,500 acres)], beakrush [Rhynchosporu tracyi; 6,100 ha (15,000 acres)], willow [Sulk caroliniana; 4,200 ha (10,400 acres)], mixed grasses [Panicum spp., Puspulum notatum, Cynodon dactylon, Eleusine indicu; 3,900 ha(9,600 acres)], wire cordgrass [Spurtinu bakeri; 2,800 ha(6,900 acres)], and bulrush [Scripus culifornicus, 1,000 ha (2,500 acres)].
