    Description

These data were collected as part of project 4112 - Status and trends of Macquarie Island Albatrosses and Giant Petrels: management and conservation of threatened seabirds. These data constitute the data for nesting sites for the 2012-2013 season.

The waypoints are provided for all accessible nests of albatross and northern giant petrels that form part of the long term population and demographic study on Macquarie Island. Refer to accompanying annual report for further context and details.

For Southern Giant Petrels (which are susceptible to disturbance) the waypoint refers to the location used to census the colony remotely and approximates their actual position.

    Description

This dataset sets out:A) a table with the times of visits by 3 albatrosses to sites of traditional harvest of muttonbirds Puffinus griseus near southern New Zealand. The dataset relates to times when tracked birds were within 2 km of the coast of a site where muttonbirds were being harvested during the period of albatross tracking. b) The GPS data from the albatross that visited 22 muttonbirding sites shown in Fig 2 of the paperc) the GIS files for Fig 1 in the paper that show the 50% and 95% kernel of the 40 tracks of 17 albatrosses, showing their main areas of distribution during the study period.

    Description

Very little information is known about the distribution and abundance of Wilson's storm petrels at the regional and local scales. This dataset contains locations of Wilson's storm petrel nests, mapped in the Mawson region during 2004-2005 season. Location of nests were recorded with handheld Trimble Geoexplorer GPS receivers, differentially corrected and stored as an Arcview point shapefile(ESRI software). Descriptive information relating to each bird nest was recorded and a detailed description of data fields is provided in description of the shapefile. A text file also provide the attribute information (formatted for input into R statistical software).

This work has been completed as part of ASAC project 2704 (ASAC_2704).

Monthly cruises were carried out between March 1986 and April 1992, at twenty-one stations in Albatross Bay, Gulf of Carpentaria. Prawn larval densities were measured and salinity-temperature profiles taken. These shape files have been produced by CSIRO for the National Oceans Office, as part of an ongoing commitment to natural resource planning and management through the 'National Marine Bioregionalisation' project.
